Ban Good Friday
Ban Xmas

Burn those days in hell!

We should replace it with Cricket Day and Football Day in future McDonalds Day & Kentucky Day should take presedence ... this has much more significance.

Hang on - speaking of secular societies... doesn't the US have the worst education system in the west?

I think you know the answer - they know it too. Just ask Professor Bruce Thornton.

And the relevance of that to this discussion would be..........?

You may want your kids to be dumbed down by football but not mine. :)

There was some bloke on here a few years back who stopped supporting Carlton completely because he was so infuriated some on here wanted Carlton to play footy on Good Friday.

Bloody drama queens and their hissy fits.

I'm happy to have my child watch football. If I want her not to be dumbed down, then football won't be the problem.

You're really drawing a long bow....

Doesnt matter I want my kids to be fully engaged in family activities - enjoying company of other kids in family get togethers and being focussed on their family.

It's one day of the year we can all observe a sacrifice for human kind - whether you are believer or not is irrelevant.

It was a tradition I was bought up with and more than happy to pass this on to my kids.

Italians are a bunch of lunatics with their football. No need to deteriorate like them, they have a Roman based colloseum culture - we don't.

What about the Germans, Spanish, French, Scandinavians and Poms.??

So you can't do that with you family if a footy match is being played? How come? It's not that hard to record a game and watch it some time later. All it takes is a little self control.

That's like saying Valentine's Day is the only day you should concentrate on your other half.

I don't know about your family, but in mine, we try and use any excuse to have get-togethers with as many of the family as possible.

You're getting really far-fetched with "Roman based coliseum culture", given that most Italians are Roman Catholic, and Christianity overtook the Roman Empire many years ago.

We are talking about a set date on the calendar that is highly family oriented. One day on the calnedar where everyone can just relax and engage. No screaming, no shouting, no cursing... just one day of peace for the body and mind.

So why can't you do that if there is a game of footy on that day? It doesn't make sense.

Have you ever watched a football game without cursing and shouting?

Be honest now...

If you want to spend time with your family, turn the TV off. It's not hard.

Watch the game on Saturday.

I guess that could work - but I wouldn't

I know we would all watch the game and the day has already turned into bullshit.

Your choice. Don't blame those of us who want to watch the footy on Good Friday. You need to make a choice regarding your own lifestyle.

..one of the weakest things i've read on here.. ..talk about lacking the strength of your convictions.. ..so, cos you're spiritual beliefs are that shallow you'd rather hold a nation to ransom, purely cos IF footy was played on a christian holiday, you'd be too weak to abstain from watching it then and there..

..another ridiculous statement.. ..don't know where to begin with this one..

..sport can be just as family engaging as religion.. .... ..in regards to matyrdom, if you don't believe in what another died for, if indeed said person even did what is claimed,, if you don't believe/agree why should you observe something that according to someone, never happened.. ..

..furthermore, if good friday football threatens the values you were raised with, then i'm sorry to say but i gotta question said values.. ..it's a foot match, was your 'faith' shaken when footy started to be played on easter sunday..? ..you know, the day where jesus rose from the dead....

..as for the roman circus maximus, you gotta be kidding.. ..thats funny.. ..we and most nations very much still have their arenas where sport is played to 'appease the masses'.. ..the colloseum is practically the blueprint, and today can still seat and exit ppl faster than many contempary stadiums..

..italians more fanatical about their football than the english..?.. ..nice try..

as things stand its a holiday for good friday ... yes????

thats what it is....

easter holiday....

so either scrap it.. or it does have a say....

write into brumby and get it taken off the holiday calendar...

KK and friends will help you....

replace it with 'Car day'.. then we can all get in our cars and drive to the footy on Good Car day....

Or Panasonic Plasma Sunday....

But it is a religious holiday at the moment....

.... thats what you get the day off for...

Yep and we should all throw a party for the Queen on Queen's B'day....bcoz thats what its for

and we should all go to the Anzac Parade and scrap the footy....coz thats what Anzac day is for. I hear all the Cwood and Ess players whinging about having to play in front of 95,000 instead of getting the day off like most ppl.

Cricketers shouldn't have to work on boxing day if the rest of us dont have to.

On Labour Day everyone should go and have a flowering baby....coz thats whats that day is for

And on Xmas everyone should just drink and eat to excess, and stimulate the retail sector of the economy, bcoz thats what that day is for.

..good friday is a christian holy day.. ..that's all it is.. ..it is not a worldwide holiday carried by every govt., only those preaching christian beliefs.. .... ..the very religious, may very well spend more time praying and fasting and attending mass, than actually spending it with their families doing family things, unless you include praying and bible study as family functions....

..what exactly do you do on good friday..?.. ..gettin' a flake from the local fish and chips doesn't account for much....and, as for jesus mentioning the idea of celebrating him in the future, nope.. ..thats got sweet F.A to do with good friday, yer gettin' yer holy days mixed up.. ..that was holy thursday, and the last supper.. ..and guess what, we play footy on that day..
