Another thing, why do bad Carlton stories filter out in dribs and drabs? Why not come clean first up about all four? It's like they try to keep it under wraps, like the old days, until it's too late and this allows the media to dictate the story.

yet this may well have been a club function where it seems a few of the lads got plastered. Did the club endorse this end of year party? Did it supply the grog? Has the club set about showing these young men that they must drink responsibly? (Words are useless without the modelling). If so, by either organising, sanctioning, or supplying, then can the club be disappointed when young men, when pissed, make dumb decisions? I would have thought history is littered with dumb decisions (and worse) by drunken people who when sober act rational.

I want to know if the club had any hand in the setting up and structure of this end of year event. If it did then its the club I am angry at not Houla,Tex or others.

Fair point, and it would be sad if the club had to ban alcohol at functions because a few blokes can't handle themselves. Colour me old fashioned, but I believe there is still a place for these sorts of activities for the team. Particularly at the end of the year, and when they hire a boat to confine their activities to a 'private' setting.

90% of the playing list managed to avoid being locked up or in fights.

I wouldn't spread the culpability to far away from the 10% who didn't.

How stupid are you to end up in this situation in the post-Fev world at Carlton. Defies belief.

The problem I have with blaming the club is that 40 other players didn't get into strife.

I don't believe that some of our players get pi55ed at club sanctioned events.

This is about self control and discipline, which 4 of them seem to lack.

Given Robbo's hyperactiveness, he should never touch alcohol IMHO.

All 4 of these losers should play for the Bullants reserves, first 4 games AT LEAST!!! Get them training at Preston too, away from the main group. No ifs, buts, maybes. We're already missing Judd and Fev, our season is in tatters and we're not even 1/2 way through pre season. Message to the young players is...'here's your chance, there are 6 spots open in the starting 22 for the 1st 3 games at least.' (then Judd gets his spot back). Train hard and stay responsible and you can be playing on the big stage. Message to the other 4, train hard, do whatever you like but you havent taken responsibility for yourselves so you are already 4 games down on the year and you have hurt the team. Anybody else thinking about a bevvie and a punch-on can write themselves a ticket to the VFL as well.

Time to get tough, excuses are like @rse holes, everybody has one and they all stink!!! We've already taken the pain of trading Fev, it will all be for nought if we now make excuses and back away from the hard choices. None of the 4 idiots is irreplaceable and there is every chance that a Jeff Garlett type will show enough in the 4 game ban period to steal somebody's regular spot!

Happy for the club to not let the players know what futher punishment is coming their way until Jan 4th.

Let them stew over the holidays and if they get into more trouble over the NY, bye bye baby.

There should be a 2 drink limit on every player. If they break the rule they pay $5000 fine and spend at least 2 weeks with the Bullants.
I know it sounds like a harsh and overbearing rule but clearly several players cant control themselves and cant be trusted.
If this behaviour continues I am sure you will see Murphy, Gibbs, Kreuzer and some other young guns asking to be traded to a serious club that wants to win premierships not drinking contests.
Elite athletes dont go and get pissed during the season or preseason. They just dont get it........ to be really elite you need to take care of yourself not treat your body like a tip.
Bloody disgrace I am sick of idiots dragging the club down.
Last chance, next player who steps out of line LOOK OUT!!!!!

Robbo is a complete idiot and we make light of the fact he behaves like he has ADHD. He has been warned once before and now must spend at least 4 weeks with Bullants before joining main group.
Walker....I am unbelievably disappointed why on earth would he do anything to jepordise his fitness or place in the team, he has given us nothing for 3 yrs........Punish him with double the number of training sessions and doing some community work as well.
Houla : Repeat offender miss the first 2 weeks of the season and all of NAB cup.
Betts ; 2 incidents in less than 4 months Booze involved in both.... Alcohol ban for 12 months (if he doesnt like it too bad season with Bullants nd then trade)

I see this "if you do it again" logic to be part of the problem at the club to be honest. The club aren't willing enough to take stern, tough action on a first offence to ensure it deters the players from doing it again and denunciates any other player thinking about doing the same thing. It is often the "if it happens again" routine which does not work too effectively for mine.

I think Betts has to go. If we taking the hardline with Fev, there is no place for Betts at Carlton. How do you get drunk enough to be arrested. Betts was probably(not fact - my view) responsible for the Garlett/Cloke late for training incident and has been known to drink a bit according to what i read on here previously threads. Got Garlett and Yarran, your spots taken betts.

Robbo - Stupid, but he would of been following betts lead. Like Pendlebury, he would of been targeted for a fight. AFL players are targets now, he doesnt seem to be a thug.

Walker/Houlihan - Dont know enough to comment, but l would say theres 2 mths before the season starts to train their butts off.

I am all for suspending players, but at the same time i want the best players out there on the field Round 1. 2-3 mths out from the start of the season allows enough time to punish those players thru training. I don't see much value in a couple games on the side line as punishment

With 2-3 months out, I would rather Ratten got those 4 players to do 15% more training then the other players on the team. If the do a 10k run, they do an extra 15% further. They do pushups, those players do 15% more pushups. They do sprints, they do 15% more sprints.

I would rather see the 40 other players on the team watching 4 players isolated doing 15% more then the others. Trust me, you wouldn't feel great. Plus the players will be super fit. Missing a couple games, doesn't have much impact, unless its 6-8games.

Spot on! The slanging that some throw around on this forum is very short sighted.

Currently Carlton FC is an embarrassment.

Well said. Look where it got us with Fev. The "if you do it again" mentality IMO was instrumental in forming the events of Brownlow night, where it took an almost unprecedented blowup for action to finally be taken.
