It's pretty simple really.
If you can't drink responsibly (ie, stop before you disgrace yourself and the club), then you should be requested by the club to not drink at all while you're under contract.
If you don't agree to it, we'll trade you as soon as we can.
I really can't see how the club can hope to build a premiership culture unless seriously hard calls are made with these guys.
i agree, just so disappointing.
Of real alarm (and was also the case on Bronlow night) was the lack of leadership from the top.
Its fine for Swann to say that it is disappointing ( which it clearly is) but where is the leadership from the top?
Whilst the Club cannot be expected to hold their hands 24/7 it is not unrealistic to expect them to have a fair idea of the ramifications of the long sessions.
With regards the boat, it would be fair to suggest that the Club knew it was happening so at the very least a "minder" should have been around.
What did they expect a swag of young blokes were going to do after a day out?...kick on would be the obvious answer!... Blind Freddy could see the ramifications of that.
As for the Brownlow incident every thinking Carlton supporter watching the event would have known a train wreck was evolving in front of them.
Senior executive there should have defused it, but starting from the top the Chairman should have made sure somebody i.e Icke or Swann got around there quick smart.
Leadership clearly is lacking and Sticks has never learnt that his role doesn't allow him to be one of "the boys" any longer.
We only have to think of the drinking session until 3.30 a.m after the Brisbane loss to realise that!
