Good Afternoon fellow TCers.

Quick question for all of you based in the ACT. I am in the process of moving down to the ACT next Feb and i wanted to ask all the ACT members of talking Carlton about what access there is for live or near live AFL without Foxtel in canberra.

Currently I am based in Sydney and have been lucky enough to have foxtel to access live football on 518. But it appears the missus wants to can this moving down to save costs.

So my questions are as follows:
If Carlton plays on a Friday night do i have to wait till midnight to watch the replay like in Sydney?
What are weekend matches like for coverage?
Are there places in the ACT to catch a live game of football through foxtel?

All feedback is greatly appreciated :thanks:

Hey mate, welcome to Canberra. their are a few of us TC'ers based down here and we have a small supporters group which i'm a member of. http://www.canberracarlton.com

2010 will be a nightmare for us interstate supporters with 19 FTA games. FTA covereage is not to flash up here and you can guarrentee that given we have 3 thursday night and one monday night games (all of which are FTA) that live coverage of these will be non existant.

Ch518 comes to the rescue on most occasions with live or near live, but sometimes their will be a total blackout on FTA AND Fox, like the Port game this year.

also clashing with swans matches can be an issue and their have been occasions when the swans have been live on FOX and FTA at the same time.

as for clubs - we as a supporters group meet just about every week at eastlakes football club in kingston (the jhome of Jezza!)

we will more than likley be baseing get together their again in 2010 - we are due for comittee meeting in the next few weeks.

their are several other AFL friendly clubs too like the souther cross chain, ainsle footy club etc etc.

cheers
gez

FTA is extremely frustrating here. This year we would have had less than a handfull of live games.

Friday night's this year were ok in that we only had to wait until 9:30pm to watch the game on Prime, but we had to wait for Heartbeat to air first :screwy:
They did however televise a full replay including half time commentary and pre and post match stuff (incl. the song), however starting at 9:30, it didn't finish up until 1am.

Channel Ten on the other hand screwed us over big time, especially with Sat night games. Unless it was the Swans, they wouldn't show it until midnight and they only televised the absolute bare minimum - I mean coverage began as the ball was bouncing in the air and ended before the siren even finished sounding. Very, very annoying especially if you like seeing the boys sing the song.

I ended up going to Eastlikes a fair bit, however I don't find it the most ideal place to watch the footy as often you can't get a seat, and it can also be quite hard to hear the commentary. Still, the crowd is pro-Carlton which makes it fun if we're winning

Aside from Eastlakes, the only other place I would go to is Ainslie Footy Club (as Gez mentioned) as it is also an Aussie Rules Club so AFL matches take priority.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Not having foxtel will be very frustrating for someone having access to live AFL over the last 2 years.

Looks like eastlakes or another venue showing live AFL will be the best bet for me.

Thanks for all the feedback :thanks:

just on eastlakes DiS, apparently we had a few issues with some of the eastlakes boys during the brissie final - and we will be reviewing it as a suitable venue - if we get enough support from people we will find it easier in having our ownreserved room upstairs to enjoy games wit out any hassles from other or jostling for seats.

i'm not sure if i've met you before so feel free to ssy g'day
