Sure Browne had a bad game against Essendon*, but why not give him a chance to redeem himself? Scape goat syndrome.

Browne has the talent to make a back flank his own IMO, he just isn't given a run at it like others are and not allowed to settle in a role.

Playing Bullants isn't going to improve his kicking skills, he needs to be playing at AFL tempo to improve this area of his game.

I disagree Rafa. I think he's had a few shockers this year and unless he learns to curb his up & unders he's going to struggle. If you dont have pace and good foot skills then no amount of effort is going to cover it up. At times he has the skills but under pressure he's got a bit to learn. I hate the radio concept of Worst on ground but he was clearly that big a liability in the Essendon* game that he deserved to serve some penance. Its not like you can bring him in to tag any other mid.

That being said Browne is a second year player and there's no way he would be delisted given what he does show and the state of our list. On that basis you could treat him hard now and he's still worth another 2 years on the list easy. There's a good 10 to go before you start to need to determine future prospects of your second and third year players IMHO.

I've seen lots and lots of up and unders from some of highly highly rated team mates this year so that advice can be generally directed.

Not picking a fight molsey but which games do you describe as shockers by Browney?

budzy, feel free to create an argument (any argument other than one about Ratten is about due around here)...

To be truthful i can't really place it - I've thought it a few times up until the Essendon* match and then that was when it was completely obvious (noting he was no different to many others). It wasn't the Adelaide match, where he did well, but one I saw on TV, so probably our win against the Lions.

My point is that IMHO his kicking hasnt been that good. At his pace if he doesnt deliver well he's going to face difficulty.

Has played only 6 games this year for a grand total of only 19 games.

Has averaged 17 disposals in those 6 games with only a 63% efficiency rate so you do have a point re his finishing ..and the Brisbane game was statistically his best.

I disagree with your view that he lacks pace. Whilst no absolute speedster, he can definitely stretch out, IMO.

As I said earlier I think he just hasn't quite picked up the tempo of AFL level yet but with only 19 games under his belt that's understandable.

When he fully acclimatizes, I think he'll be a very solid utility type able to play a number of different roles thus making him an important part of the team.

Agreed.
I like Browne and think he will be a good player......nothing special however someone we can rely on to perform well against quality opposition.

Congratulations to Stephen Browne (Northern Bullants) on winning the Fire Fighters’ Award in the match against Geelong on the weekend (15/08).

You need to have at least one stand out feature to make it at AFL level and Im not sure Brown's does. He appears to have about or below avg speed, avg to ok skills, he is not a big accumulator and is below avg in size and height, which means he will have to develop significantly in one of these areas or he will unfortunately struggle to become a consistently good AFL player IMO.

Bit harsh, I think his work rate, defensive skills, decision making and aerial ability are above standard for a midfielder.

Do we know anyone like that?

..actually, i'd say a footballer that truely is afl standard [need not be great] in all areas of his footy and is able to deliver consistently good footy with smart decision making and composure,, i'd say that could be their standard feature.. ..every team has it's 'foot soldiers'..

Simmo's stand out feature is his gut running when all around him are flagging. He amazes me with his capacity to go all day.

Browne is out of contract now , which is a bit strange .

Could he be looking at the axe ?

Hope not .
