I swore after the snooze fest the Swans provided for 2 and a half quarters against us at Docklands this year that I would NEVER waste a moment of my life watching them play ever again. Flower the AFL for scheduling the Blues to play them in the NAB Cup. Even the lure of the first hit out of the year for Carlton cannot entice me. I just hope that the Blues tank it and thwart their pre-season plans.

It's IMPOSSIBLE to tank a NAB Cup game against Sydney. They've taken losing in the preseason to an art form.

Seriously, we'd have to field a team comprised of the young offspring of sponsors, Captain Carlton, three cheersquad members and Jack Silvagni for us to lose.

And even then, Jack would probably hold their full-forward goalless, as he deliberately missed goal after goal.

Yes, but it's important to get Carlton/Collingwood/Essendon* up here to get bigger crowds attending.

Collingwood played at North Sydney Oval a couple of years back.

That's true, but the same could be said for Canberra too.

Constantly having teams such as WCE, Freo, Dogs, Sydney, Roos and Melbourne doesn't exactly excite too many people..

Yeah, but Canberra's a hole.....

Don't count on it. They've missed the finals for the first time in ages, Mickey O and Leo Barry are no longer there to nurse through and given Paul Roos' obsession with Carlton, they'll be full strength to win in the middle of their local rival's territory against the team that their coach despises most.

add to that the constant scrutiny via the AFL in regards to the swans attitude to the whole concept

Pffft, Sydney.

We'll have Juddy, keen to get a proper hitout before his :banghead: 3 game suspension.

Hammer and 206 against Mumford and some ex rugby player.

McLean, who will fill the centre square with righteous indignation and fury, paving the way for Murph and Gibbsy to run riot.

Yarran, who will have the sydney supporters thinking "he's a bit like Mikky O, only better".

At least one Irishman, where Sydney are still missing theirs.

Garlett and Betts, who will kick 5 between them.

Kruezer, roaming the F50 with a little Henderson and Waite for good measure.

I'd say we'll win by 40 points.

Last time we played up here for a preseason match, we won by 100.

Same could be said for Western Sydney

But really, Canberra's not that bad!

As did Essendon*. But those weren't actual NAB Cup games, IIRC.

They were probably the regional games they have to play once they're knocked out of the NAB Cup. I remember one year we played in Coffs Harbour... but not in Canberra!!

Monday, Thursday games on fixture menu for AFL

Quote:
And while the AFL has not gone overboard with experimentation, it will add another Thursday night game and play three games on Mondays.

Carlton figures in at least three of the games, playing against former spearhead Brendan Fevola in a Round 13 Thursday night clash against Brisbane Lions at Etihad Stadium.

It also has a Round 7 Monday night game against St Kilda on May 10.

The season will kick off with a Carlton-Richmond Thursday night match and there will be a Round 3 Easter Thursday clash.

the bit about our monday and thrusday fixtures i'm annotyed about (being an interstater) is that they are all covered on FTA telly which all sounds good and well but there is no chance 10 or 7 will show these games live or on a small delay in the northen states on a week night.

just no chance. so we will be up to 2 am on a week night if we want to watch the game! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

gez, 10 might show live on their OneHD and 7 might show on their 7Two channel which kicks off on Sunday.

Fingers crossed that these geniuses make better use of their HD channels.

One might, But I won't hold my breath that 7two will show anything.

I think as part of allowing these new Free to air Stations they agreed not to show stuff that conflicted with the Pay TV- I believe there is a campaign at the moment by the Free to Air networks to allow them to show more live sport on there second digital networks - this will be another test for the Dudd and his cronnies

True, but it was Alston who screwed the pooch on this. (dis)credit where it's due.

The way it is at moment if they allow the Free to Air to show live sport on their second network - it will all but kill off Fox -

God help the first Pollie that pisses off Murdoch

Don't disagree at all, but the free kick given to Fox was courtesy of the Libs.

Disappointing that we play our home game against fev on a Thursday night in round 13. Is there a public holiday? Or are we just part of the mid-week experiment?

Either way not happy.

And how did we let bichmond moan and sook their way into getting round 1 as their home game again???? Really don't want to have to pay the ridiculous mcg seat booking fee to get a nosebleed seat again. Hope we smash them
