Opinions aren't varied about our lack of forward structure, poor kick out strategy and chip chip-static-go-nowhere style of play.

Yes they are.
Our kick out results were middle of the road. Considering where we've come from, that's an acceptable improvement IMO. As for our style of play, It was frustrating at times but overall, I was reasonably happy. Look at all the other 15 teams, you'll find similar criticisms from supporters at all the clubs.
Sometimes I think we expect perfection all the time. It isn't going to happen.

As for the assistants, I'm really happy with Riley, Capuano and Montgomery. They're very highly rated within the system so obviously those in the know rate them. Lappo is the only one I'm unsure about.

so why didn't THEY trade him last year ..or the year before ...or the year before that ...TO FIX THE PROBLEM!!!???

Weren't they contemplating that when Judd said if he comes to carlton he wants to play with fev. The club had to go with the champ on that as far as i am concerned. Didnt work out so we move on.

I respect your opinion that you want new coaches but its my opinion that Capuano is enough and i am keen to see what lappin can do with the forward line without fev. He was a smart player inside our forward 50 and from what i am told he is quite sharp when it comes to football. He may not look super smart but we shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Id prefer to let things evolve and don't in anyway think that doing so will mean we will be the next collingwood or stkilda and only win one in fifty.

Rumours over on CSC that Kouta will be a full time addition to the 2010 Assistant Coaching team.

The poster who posted the info this morning is pretty reliable.

Interesting, i know Kouta has said on radio that he is keen to coach next year. Would rather him at Carlton than at a club like Collingwood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heard Kouta on SEN a couple of weeks ago saying that he wanted to be an assistant coach and had spoken to Carlton about a position. He said he loved the club and wanted to give CFC 1st option on his services. He said that the club was considering things but at the time of the interview he was waiting to find out.

I'm 1/2 way through his book ATM, the guy bleeds blue, we should invent a job just to get Kouta back to the club!!! He would be awesome with the new players. Not many players ever managed to get themselves into the kind of shape that Kouta did. If Kouta could help develop a couple of kids with the same preparation he had it would be awesome!!!

Things have not gone that well since the end of the season, Fev, Judd suspension, losing an unloseable final, missing out on Bradshaw etc.
Imagine if Collingwood or Essendon* announced that Kouta was going to be an assistant coach with them with him sitting there in their colours. No thanks.

Kouta's communication skills and knowledge of the game should be the most pressing question, not simply whether we want to keep one of our own from defecting.

Seems OK on SEN, Improved a lot since his playing days (presentation skills that is). Talks pretty well on the radio and seems to know when not to take the bait etc on talkback. He has been doing a fair bit of media etc

Good bloke, champion of the club but disappointing if true. Everything I've heard from Kouta, he is Captain Obvious.
I'm yet to hear him offer anything insightful other than the blatantly obvious. Ratten needs to cut the apron strings and get people in that will challenge his thinking or he will stagnate.

really?

his knowledge of the current Carlton team is so disappointing, when he attempts to answer questions on the blues on SEN he sounds clueless.

i dont want the club hiring coaches because they bleed blue and prepare well. i want the club to hire coaches because of their tactical nous.

Raises the bigger issue:
Does Carlton want to employ players and assistant coaches who are wantabe media personalities?
The media would be forever chasing them for tit-bits about the club...

Who the @#$%&! cares?

Kouta WAS a Carlton champion, I love the bloke but lets not get caught up in sentiment here. We need the best people for the job, not the best former Carlton champions (some would say we have enough already  )

kouta would be great in a mentoring role - iirc, there were posts at the time saying that he did a bit of work with setanta when he first started?

Good idea 4th.

I'm not sure how I'd feel about Kouta as an assistant coach, but I'd be more than happy with him coming back in a mentoring capacity.

Hopefully he's involved with development.

I must admit it doesn't inspire me with a lot of confidence, but I'm willing to trust the club on it and Im also not a big believer in judging people's coaching ability by their media work.

Mentoring role???

I'd rather have a donkey's turd mentoring our players before Kouta.

That's a bit rough.

I know but its true. Not the best role model for anyone at our club. For many years struggled because he was weak. Held the club to ransom. From what i was told not the best leader the clubs ever had, Lance did a better job!
