I just don't get the hoo-ha over GC17 and GWS concessions. It's only two years, and they'll be sure to trade a couple of picks for high profile players. They won't exactly draft their first captain.

Lock away Judd, Gibbs, Murphy, Kreuzer, Waite, Jamison, Bower, Henderson, McLean and roll the dice on the rest (that aren't already signed until 2012).

The only inconvenience to us is that our first pick will be at #25 next year and #26 the year after. Big !@#$%& deal.

So a mid 20's pick to find a good footballer is a piece of cake hey

And then our second rounders are post #40.

We still have improvements to make and the recruiters are going to have a pretty tough job to get it right.

Important to get #12 right this year, and find another somewhere in the ND or RD

You can only pick when it's your turn. I imagine the process would be the same as every year - i.e. make a list of names ranked all the way down to your (maybe) second pick and cross them off as the names are called on the day. The name at the top when its your turn joins the club.

All the effort will go into identification and you might find the recently beefed up recruiting team will get a bit more funding and find themselves spending a bit more time on the road..... So Mrs C might have to buy herself another cat.

I'd love to be the team that has the "how the hell did he slip to pick __" player this year.

Bloody AFL and their poxy rules to help the Gold Coast and GWS. Fortunately we can now pick him up as a 17 year old (birthday today) in the 2010 draft and trump the bastards. Jimbo will be delighted. Lock it in troops, Dylan will be a Blueboy, after all who would want to go to Western Sydney?

Reading an article in The Australian this morning.

It says in the coming few years with the draft concessions for the new franchises, a club that finishes 5th on the ladder will have just one pick in the top 40.

That is a significant fact.

I know we have a young list and that puts us in the best possible position to not only challenge for a flag in the coming years but to also hold us in good stead when the draft becomes compromised, but I wonder what policies and practices the club will implement moving fwds to make sure when the draft concessions end we don't find ourselves too compromised.

A Kade Simpson will be about 28 by the time we are able to participate ion the draft without it being uncompromised.

And a J.Waite will be 30.

Time waits for nobody.

Let's discuss...

This is why using pick 11 on Brock in the last relatively uncomprised draft was a disgrace!

Actually Brizzy, the article says we won't officially select him until the 2011 draft, but we have to commit now, or soon GWS can sign him.

..always believed that clubs would have first crack at their father/sons before any expansion team could have a crack.. ..but the way the AFL have tweaked this is absurd.. ..we're lucky that it's a pretty safe bet to commit to Dylan so far/early in advance, but some other father/sons may need more time to analyse.. ..a slightly more speculative kid [or an injured kid] might be far more risky.. ..i reckon this is an attempt to scare off a few clubs and allow future father/sons to possibly slip past their 'heritage' club and be ava8ilable for expansion teams to get..

Does this mean that GWS cant bid for him in 2011? It wouldnt be fair if they bid a first round pick for him because they have half of the first round picks.
