That 22 has 7 talls only and plenty of pace (only McLean Robbo and Gibbs lack speed among the "non-talls") but also plenty of toughness (only the aboriginal kids lacking in this area at the moment).

Would have liked Everitt but not to be. I think Austin Henderson Setanta will vie for one spot for much of the year. Our stocks of versatile talls are ok, just need a couple of them to take the next step(s).

FWIW my 22

Armfield Jamison Thornton
Bower Waite Russell
Simpson Maclean Walker
Gibbs O'hAilpin Yarran
Kreuzer Henderson Betts
Warnock Judd Murphy
Carrazzo Garlett Hadley Joseph

Em Austin Houlihan Scotland

One of the issues is how we want to structure. Looking at the various defences proposed they range from 2 talls to4 talls plus Walker and Russell. Likewise, the forward lines and even midfields vary in the number of talls/mids/smalls and how they structure. For mine we need O'hAilpin in the team somewhere and he has the physicality and mature body for CHF. Hendo and Kreuz are options but both need a bit more muscle before being expected to play the position regularly. We all seem to placing faith in Warnock coming up. If not do we go Kreuz as ruck? Or Hammer? Or Jacobs? If Hammer do we rest him forward or on the bench? Does Henderson get the gig ahead of Austin? Probably if we want a forward who can go back at a pinch - but not if we want a defender who can go forward and probably not if we want the more genuine swingman - although Henderson's extra height might swing things his way a bit. We seem largely to be overlooking the veterans Houlihan and Scotland, and I do as well, but I wonder whether we will need the experience of at least one of them. Then there's the guys left out - we seem to say this every year but I think every year it is true, we are developing better stocks in reserve. Could make genuine cases for numerous of the guys we've left out.

Bit early for me.
I'll wait until I know who's available after pre-season training and how they go.
One thing I DO think, if Henderson isn't inour best 22 by the start of next season, we've been dudded.

Really?

You do realise he's still a teenager? To put it in perspective, he's nearly two and half years younger than JK. He's younger than Kreuzer. He's younger than Mitch Robinson and Jeff Garlett. He's younger than AJ, Austin, Browne, Ellard and Hill. He's less than a month older than Luke Stanton!

I don't see Hendo as a 'ready made'. I reckon he will play a mixture of VFL/AFL in 2010 and probably in 2011 too. He's a fairly big kid, so he will take extra time to develop. He should be rippening just as our premiership window opens up in 2012...

Don't be surprised if the likes of Carlos and Cloke are ahead of Hendo in the pecking order in 2010.

But that doesn't mean we haven't secured a 150+ game player and made a trade that will make us a better club in the medium-to-longer term future....

Some REALLY tall teams being put down here.

Do we really feel we can afford more than 8 talls in a given 22?

8 would be the max - and its what i put in my team

3 at either end and 2 rucks

with some of those talls being versatile enough to play either end/push into the middle

Rather than doing just a best 22 I've broken the team down into rough positions moving forward.

In bold are my best 22.

Tall defenders: Michael Jamison, Bret Thornton, Paul Bower, Mark Austin
Rebound defenders/Small defenders: Dennis Armfield, Heath Scotland, Ryan Houlihan, Chris Johnson, Steven Browne, Joe Anderson, Rhys O’Keeffe
Defensive midfielders: Aaron Joseph
Inside midfielders: Chris Judd, Brock McLean, Richard Hadley
Midfielders: Marc Murphy, Bryce Gibbs, Kade Simpson, Andrew Carrazzo, Andrew Walker, Shaun Grigg
Tall forwards: Jarrad Waite, Setanta O’hAilpin, Lachlan Henderson, Cameron Cloke
Small forwards: Eddie Betts, Jeff Garlett, Chris Yarran
Defensive forwards: Jordan Russell, Simon Wiggins, Mitch Robinson
Ruckman: Matthew Kruezer, Shaun Hampson, Sam Jacobs, Robert Warnock
???????: Caleb Tiller

I didn't include rookies who haven't played this year and I'm assuming that Bentick, Hartlett, Fisher, Bannister, Bentley, and Edwards will be delisted.

Really?

Does seem a bit hasty. BS: are you referring to the start of the 2010 or 2011 season?

armfield jamison thornton
bower austin scotland
simpson gibbs walker
mclean waite yarran
betts henderson kreuzer

warnock murphy judd

anyone from;
joseph hampson carrazzo robinson
grigg hadley russell gartlett either butcher/talia/carlisle

bower and thornton are my rebound defenders while jamison and austin are my shut down defenders.
i would love too see waite play forward all year but i dont think that will happen. not a bad forward line.
the thing that i most love is the fact that we have some depth, something that we have not had for a long time.
hopefully yarran, austin and henderson play some good footy for us.
bring on 2010!!!!!!!!
