I dont think a flag next year, but I didn't think that with Fev. I think 2nd week of the finals should still be the expectation. So I have lowered my expectations slightly from top 4 with Fev.

MadBlue - With Fev what were you expecting?

Why?

Why not Top 6?

Why not top 4?

Why shouldn't the kids believe they will be better individually and as a team in 2010? It's natural progress for the young that gives us optimism not just wishful thinking. The kids on the list make things happen and history proves that.

I agree with this comment London. Many underestimate how damaging an 'individual' like Fev can be to team psyche. With Fev gone, I would expect to see a new sense of purpose from this team.

Even without that factor, I agree with bondi that there is plenty to be optimistic about and plenty of forward line potential.

Really looking forward to next year.

i agree, i really like the way we are headed.

and i say this again, and i know its a long shot, but if we could somehow secure either j.kennedy or j.white as part of the fev trade i think our chances just improve even further.

would anyone here consider trading jacobs to the swans as part of a fev/jacobs for white/pick 6 (or o'keefe) considering they are gunning for a higher pick as and losing Jolly in the process.

if we could work it so we could send fev/jacobs to the swans for white/pick 6 id very happy. if we could then on-trade pick 6 and a player or two to West Coast for J.Kennedy - well, to be honest i think it would be a bigger trade than Judd  very very unlikely, but i droll at the idea of white at FF, kennedy at CHF thrown in with the rest of our current squad ... the potential is enourmous. secure everitt with Pick 27 - OMG.

lol, i think i had too much coke zero ...

im a fan of fev, and to an extent he is getting shafted, but as they say, reap what you sow, so dont have too many misgivings about him departing ... but we have to do so, in a manner in which can bolster our side. if we can get a developing FF or CHF (or both) as part of the fev trade, and secure a combo that could last for 7-8 years i would be rapted.

this is a chance to really change our focus, our style and improve even further than we currently have, and if trading fev, enables us to do this, im all for it :)

we would have to be the youngest side by a mile next year, with fev gone, stevens retiring, houla out to pasture and scotland comign in and out, when noen of them are playign we would be by far the youngest side in the comp ... and yet i still expect us to make finals. its all coming up trumps for the blues :)

I think it comes down to how much the kids improve.
Kreuzer and Yarran might become 40 goal/year forwards next year. Combine that with a fit and in form Waite and Betts and our forward line looks pretty good.
Robbo and Garlett will also improve.
What if Hampson's attempted marks start sticking......he would cause all sorts of trouble to the opposition.
McLean in the guts will allow Murphy to spend more time up forward.

In defence I really hope Jamison can stay injury free and Austin continues to improve. Fingers crossed we can pick up someone like Nathan Brown with the Fev trade. A "gorilla" in defence would be a huge boost.

Remember St Kilda weren't given much hope at the start of this year and the Hawks won the 2008 flag ahead of schedule. Confidence can be an amazing thing....especially with younger players.

Are u joking me, i love Kruez but he will not kick 40goals next year and it is even less likely Yarran will kick 40.

Going into 2010 with that underdog mentality anything can happen.

And that's where I think we were at in 2009.

2010 may start that way after the Fev fiasco with players a bit sheepish and still wondering what will be...unless we get a ROK type... but I think the kids will grow over the preseason with a new game plan which has been thrust on the MC.

Absolutely. 30 year old plus forward and fringe player > Coleman Medallist :donk:

Seriously I understand people are telling me (on here) this is the best we can get and if this the best we can get then its the best we can get.

But as for 2010, I think Fev won a number of games of his own boot and we'll go backwards.

That doesn't mean to say that medium to long term we'll be worse off IMHO. On our list we werent going to threaten top four and the aim has to be a Premiership. I just cant accept these two as the missing links for a Premiership so I dont see this puts us forward, only bacwards. 2010 doesnt have to be a write-off year but I wont be putting hopes on it like those permeating this thread.

The addition of Henderson at 196cm and 92kg is fantastic news.

A 10 year player who kicked 3 goals against Mal Michael in his first game.

Plays forward or defense. His favourite position is CHF and he's been learning the ropes from the best in the business; Jonathon Brown.

It's all coming together for the baby Blues.

2010 is looking the goods.

B: Thornton - Jamison - Armfield
HB: Bower - Austin - Russell
C: Simpson - McLean - Murphy
HF: Yarran - Henderson - Walker
F: Betts - Waite - Kreuzer

R: Warnock - Judd - Gibbs

INT: Houlihan - Joseph - Carrazzo - Hampson

EMG: Scotland - Grigg - O'Hailpin

And that leaves a lot of unlucky blokes missing out.

But look at the flexibility... Austin/Thornton can go forward. Waite can go back or in the middle. Walker can play across any line... 4 key defenders who can play tall or small... 3 rucks, rotating through the ruck, deep forward and the bench - all different sorts of ruckman, and all can take a grab... Most of the forward-line can push into the midfield and most of the midfield can play forward...

FB: Bower Jamison Joseph
HB: Armfield Thornton Russell
CC: Gibbs Murphy Simpson
HF: Carrazzo Henderson Houlihan
FF: Walker Waite Betts

RR: Kreuzer McLean Judd

Int from: Hampson Stevens Yarran Garlett Scotland Hadley O'hAilpin

Looks exciting, but the forward structure is the key. Need to make sure they can change it up when the opposition tighten up the game. An even performance will be required from now on.

I like the look of this team:

B - Jamison, Thornton, Armfield
HB - Bower, Waite, Russell
C - Simpson, Murphy, Joseph
HF - Yarran, Kreuzer, Robinson
F - Betts, Henderson, Garlett
Foll - Warnock, Judd, McLean

INT - Gibbs, Walker, Hampson, Hadley

Except these players miss out:
Carrazzo, Scotland, O'hAilpin and Pick 12

I like it jim, especially not naming Kreuzer as a forward. He's a ruckman.

I said 'interchange from'. ;)

It sounds like he likely will be, which may buy a reprieve for a guy like Pfeiffer, Ellard or Hill, or see Garlett elevated. Should he survive, he gets a spot on the bench.

If he's ok, the likely bench is Hampson, Stevens, Scotland & Yarran.
