Mick's obviously feeling the pressure of Buckley hovering over him, already.

Expect more angry stuff from Mr Grumpy during the course of the season.

Oh, and back on topic... I thought I heard Jake Niall say that Nick's payout was likely to be included into our 2009 salary cap.

Very poor form by Malthouse.

Mick Malthouse wrote:
"I don't like saying this about a young kid who will probably finish his career in the next week or so when he announces he's got a crook neck," Malthouse said in an obvious reference to Stevens.

"We will stand by our decisions, not other people's decisions to bring people into the football club. We were harassed, ridiculed and told we got it wrong when we didn't get Nick Stevens.

"He played one finals match and the bloke we were supposed to give up (Alan Didak) is an All-Australian, best and fairest here . . . I feel sorry for Nick that he can't play with his neck.

"But we know Alan has got many many more years in front of him."

If you don't like saying it then don't say it you fool. What a flower.

Totally agree. Malthouse is dancing on Nick Stevens' injury grave. Incredibly tasteless, not to mention fool's logic.

Reckon we bring Stevo back just for the filth game next season...

Poor form by MM. Could easily have been the other way round ? Its luck of draw nothing to do with non-trading

What's Malthouse's problem? Has he forgotten Stevens' club of choice was Collingwood? Or is it just he is still pissed off with Port and having a go at them? What's the point of his comment?

He has always been weird. Another example.

I reckon he's a teetotaler. Would explain his weird sense of humor and general irritability.

A pathetic attempt to justify their recent weak trading history.
He should be ashamed.

Failure in the art of trading, MM resorted to Tanking.

Pendlebury and Thomas were picked up because MM tanked.

Take those 2 players from the list, no, take Pendlebury out and they have no really good linkman.

MM obviously sees a big gap in his club's ability to trade. It's an attitude problem complicated by ego.

He seems to be a good coach though.

And WorkCover will fight you the entire way and it can take 12 months to sort out if you are lucky.

The club will do the right thing by Nick

What is holding up the pending announcement?

Are we going to do a Chris Pelchen and trade him to North for two top 20 picks?

Nick Stevens' payout snags Carlton, with midfielder having played his last AFL game

I find it pretty ridiculous that the AFL doesn't have a rule regarding medically enforced retirements.

I think we should absolutely pay out his contract, but it should in no way count towards our salary cap for next season.

And the footy world considers The Hawks as the culprits of stalling, stifling and mudying the waters during draft week.

Why the delay on the decision from the AFL? It's a common sense decision for someone retiring because they can't play the game any longer, not a stoush between player and club.

It's a serious decision. Carlton have a gap of $700K (Fev) and $400K (Stevo) to factor in their plans for 2010 and the years after that. That's a huge sum of money and lots can be done with that over the next 2 days of trading.

Come on AFL; stop stalling!

Assuming we have to place Stevo on the LTI, any chance of him being placed on the Vets list so that only half his salary is counted on the TPP?

You have to have been at a club for 10 seasons (which Nick hasn't) before you can be placed on their veterans list.

Unless that rule has been changed recently?

No, it hasn't. So, that's a no to DUC's question.

For a massive corporation, the AFL is completely [REDACTED] when it comes to stuff like this...

Anderson and Demitriou are probably too busy playing office cricket, plaiting each others back hair
or generally piss-farting around.
