A mate put me onto this site just before finals started but I haven’t felt compelled to write anything until reading some of the hysterical opinions posted under this topic. Without more, an objective reporting of the ‘incident’ (as it seems to be called) would be headlined ‘Man Gets Drunk and is Loud and Boisterous As a Result, then Vomits’. Quite frankly, I think I deserve more for my hard-earned when I open the morning’s newspapers. Now, if as Synbad suggests there is more to it than meets the eye, we might have a different story. Scrap that, we might have had a story. But we’re almost a week on from Brownlow night so why haven’t we heard more? Where is the ‘smoking gun’ that’s going to justify sacking or trading the side’s most important player? I’d venture it’s because it’s slanderous hearsay that various media outlets don’t want to risk printing because they might face a defamation suit (if Fev’s lawyers could explain the concept to him). Apparently other posters are also careful to avoid spilling the dirt?

As such, all we get is a media storm that feeds off itself. You could have been forgiven for thinking it was mid-November with the AFL media fraternity feeling a little bored and searching for a story. Instead, it was Grand Final week. To me, that fact tells you more about the state of sporting journalism in this country than the character of Fevola, the main reason being that we haven’t learned anything about Brendan from Monday night. Yes, he struggles to control himself with the grog. Yes, he is far from the smartest tool in the shed. Yes, he’s bloody lucky that his wife is so forgiving. But, readers of the Herald Sun – that is not news!!!! Supplicants at the altar of the high priestess of the AFL, holier-than-thou Caroline Wilson, I beg of you believe me when I tell you that that is not news!!!!

The comparison between Fevola’s antics and the alleged incident involving Hurley of Essendon* that left our State’s Premier embarrassed halfway across the world on Friday could not be starker. Didak and Shaw? What about Bock being charged with assaulting his girlfriend in Adelaide this April? What was his punishment? $5000 and a one-match suspension. Frankly, once you start sacking footballers for getting drunk at post-season events just put Princes Park on the market – it would make a nice car park or a crèche. Celebrating or commiserating by getting blind, hammered, sloshed (when you think about the number of words we have for it, you know there’s a problem) is a part of Australian culture and it’s unlikely to change. Certainly, I’m in agreement that it’s not the healthiest pastime but unless there’s a public policy change, it’s hardly newsworthy. And so when I see a loveable nincompoop like the Fev hung out to dry for the sake of the Nine network getting revenge, it leaves me absolutely bewildered. Ask yourself what you want from an umpire when they’re running around crucifying the Blues and you’ll see what I’m getting at? Just a bit of bloody consistency!!

It's becoming clear IMO that Fev is not the man.

Except that its chronic behaviour.
I remember having an argument/conversation with Denis a few years ago when Fev was in a similar position at trade time.
I didnt want Fev traded but wanted Lance traded... Denis was going to keep Lance this time and trade Fev "For the right trade"... of course noone wanted him then either...

But he reeled of a list of misdemeanours as long as your arm .. that hadnt 'come out '..and the club had kept hush hush... problem with Fev is when is enough enough????

Its like a water clock... drop by drop .. till it flips over....

Its not just about Fev and footy either... its about Fev the person...

He is destined for a shit life....after footy.

Wonder if Fev's PR flaks are also putting their shoulder to the wheel and posting on TC?

Nothing personal. If it's not bullshit then it shouldn't be too hard to name at least one of the misdemeanours, no?

Fev probably misses the toilet seat all the time at the club too :)

Nah, from what I've been told he's not too bad with the dunny seats at the club. But his accuracy is pretty poor when having a slash at a restaurant. Sprays it all over the front window, he does.
