Blues face hurdle in payout for Stevens

Quote:
CARLTON is facing a $400,000 payout to Nick Stevens who has been warned never to play AFL football again rather than risk permanent disability or worse, following a neck injury incurred in round 22.

The Blues will hold talks today with AFL officials Andrew Dillon and Ken Wood and put forward a request that Stevens' contract payout will not be included in the club's 2010 salary cap.

Knew there was going to be an issue with his money. Hopefully it can be resolved.

What happened when Voss retired? I cant remember the details. I remember that they had to carry him on their list but his money was not in the salary cap. Could be wrong though.

So the day after Swan says reports of Stevo retiring are not correct, we are meeting with AFL about paying Stevens out????

Well if we change our name to Brisbane or Sydney we may get a similar concession

No, he said media reports that Stevo was to retire today (meaning yesterday) were false. He also said they were still in discussions. So, as far as I can see, he hasn't actually said that he expects Stevo to play on in 2010.

Can we apply to the AFL and ask them if we can put him on the rookie list?

Ahem GWS, it is BlueMark with a capital M not Bluemark with lowercase m. And it is clear Moshe25 is a man of impleccable taste, he did after all like my sausage :sly:

Apparently Malthouse was talking about him having to retire soon. He has struggled of late, and hasn't given himself the best chance of succeeding with his prep, but it is a sad way for him to have to bow out if true.

Was speaking to a friend of his recently and Stevens is pretty disappointed about how things are being handled.
He hurt his neck again in round 22 when he collided with Judd and went off for awhile.
The club is looking at putting him onto the LTI list next year as only some of his salary goes under the salary cap as there is an injury payment exclusion (not sure how it all works).
Stevens just wants it sorted and to paid out now.

He has a contract for around $400,000 next year, why would he retire and forgo this? There has to be an agreement with the club for a payout and this has not been done yet.

Stevo needs to hang tight until trade week finishes.
