An elderley family member had blood thinning agents to dissolve a blood clot in a lung.

It took a number of months for the clot to dissappear.

They used warfarin - which is also used as rat poison.

This person was also told that things such as shaving would be a bit more hazardous because of the use of blood thinning agents and a decreased ability for a cut or a nick in the skin to clot normally and stop bleeding.

So I hope that in Setanta's case another solution is possible and that this condition can be overcome.

Warfarin also often requires weekly screen and dosage depending on the patients blood results (INR/Coag counts).

More trouble than it's worth with the patient often suffering from excessive bruising and hemorages.

Other anti-coag possibilities would be Heparin or Clexane, but they all have the same issues with them.

Safest bet to try is asprin, but I'm certain this was the first option taken...

And Aspirin itself can cause lots of problems....including stomach ulcers.
