Synbad your off the mark.
the season is over
So they were pissed at a pub.
Big flower deal
its called letting off steam.
The fact that it is reported by the Herald Sun just shows how pathetic that paper is. I only buy it for the form guide
If no illegal substances were taken and no women sexually manhandled then what is the problem.

In fact if they all went home to mummy and ate cookies and drank softdrink then I would be more worried.
The fact they were pissed at a function when there season is over has no relevence to how they peformed during the year.

Those things are already monopolised by other teams.

Can i ask you something aand answer this truthfully.... and if you dont know .. say you dont know..

Are there two kinds of men in the world...

a) those that go out and get cactus
b) those that go to their mums and have cookies?

on the "if no illegal substances were taken what is the problem?" sentence..
Why did you insert the 'if'?

Are you saying there definitely wernt any?
Or are you asking the question cos you dont know???

Which is it?

Who are our senior core players and how serious are they about doing everything possible for themselves and the team to win a flag?
It starts and ends with Judd. And that is not good enough.
Synbad is spot on

Bit harsh on Kade Simpson....but I get your point...it's very valid and simply not good enough.

Some of the best men I have met and I personally admire for what they have done in their life smoke pot.

I personally dont take any illegal substances but I wouldnt be so narrow minded to think someone wasnt "agoodman" if they took drugs.

As far as a group of blokes getting shitfaced in a pub well let me tell you something
I get together with my 12 or so best mates every year for a golf weekend and guess what
we all go to the pub and get off our tits on the Friday night.
All these guys have good jobs , are good husbands good fathers . We all are in our fortys we all have been through the difficult and the good times. They only get pissed a couple of times each year because they are busy with responsibilities
We are all good men. Including me. Getting drunk and having a bit of fun makes us bad men does it.

Synbad my dad who has been dead for 12 years was an entertainer. That was his occupation. In the last 20 years the work dried up. Mum and me and my brother gave him the shits. He became miserable. He was also a teetotaller. Perhaps if he got pissed a few times without becoming an alcoholic he might have been happier at times.

As far as drugs being on the premises on Monday night , why dont you ring Fev or Juddy up and ask them.

Just to finish off
Every footy team whenever they finish the season will go and get maggoted somewhere
Unless your a teetotaller. Nothing wrong with that if it suits ya.
Intersesting I wont name him but I used to be friends with a certain AFL player who played over 200 games and played in flags. Didnt touch a drop of piss.
Did cheat on his wife though moved interstate and has pretty much abandoned his kids.
He is the cookies guy i was talking about.
In your eyes he must be a top bloke

In short
There is a very small correlation between the amount of booze someonre drinks in a session a couple of times a year and being a good bloke

8 pages on this subject is pathetic.Almost as pathetic as the stupid paper that published Fev and the dildo.
Over and out

Point missed IMO (not just by you keogh). It has nothing to do with one night of drinking turning you into a shit bloke.

it's great that you and your mates can get pissed and still maintain your top bloke status. I'm sure that there are thousands out there who can do the same.

I'm also sure that if you didn't get pissed and make a *bleep* of yourself in public and annoy other patrons at the venue, you could still be a good bloke too.

I'll agree with you on that one.

hello all

has anyone read the book "A Season With Verona" by Tim Parks, who is a Pom and lives in Italy (in Verona)... he follows the Hellas Verona for a season in Serie A all around Italy - home and away. It is a great book.

Anyway - even though he travels with the players on some occasions - eats with them, hangs around while they are travelling for away games... he never gets to really know them... they the players are basically shit scared to do anything except what the boss says... and when they are not training, or eating the right food, they are playing their Nintendos. It is an unreal existence. A quite hollow exstence.

Anyway - it would be a sad day if the lads could not have a few drinks at the end of the year. Good luck to them. They are real people. Young blokes. Enjoying themselves. Cheers.

What worries me is people who question the worthiness of a thread like this. The professionalism of our playing group goes to the heart of what our football club needs to do to achieve the ultimate success.

Ive said this before, it isnt about one night on the piss, but a collective bond by our senior players to have their focus centred on our 17th flag. We need the balance well and truly in favour of committment and team orientated thinking over taking "short cuts" and @#$%&! around. Yes the players deserve a break from the 24 hour commitment of footy, but any break needs to be tempered with an underlying desire to get the very best out of themselves, and for them to carry that into the pre season.
Waving dildos around reflects very badly on the entire group of players- good luck seeing Bulldogs Saints Cats Crows players doing anything like that.
They've set the standard. We need to measure up or we're going nowhere as a footy club.

Too many people on here are scared of us raising the bar to the ultimate level of professionalism, and that in itself is pathetic.

I have often had different views than Synbad, but I have some respect for his views on Mad Monday. I don't wish to be hypocritical, as I have been involved in week long binges in Darwin, Adelaide and country Vic after playing in grand finals. If the players I played with with were subject to intense media scrutiny there would have been a few stories to tell. The reports of Fev last year with a dildo are typical of the sort of behaviour that I have seen from teammates. The difference as I see it is that we were amatuer or semi professional footballers who might have received 5, 10 or 15 grand for a season but had other regular jobs.

When you are an AFL professional , particularly those earning 500k or more and without any other qualifications, you would be stupid to jeopardise all that by a few minutes of idiodic behaviour. I am aquainted with a few of ex AFL players who were once earning big bucks who are now unemployed or in jobs with quite low salaries. One of them ( a nephew) had his career cut short by injury and another (son of a good mate) did get injured but was let go by his club because of his party mentality.

Why would a person who could not earn more than 30 or 40k outside footy be stupid enough to jeopardise their high footy salary for the sake of some idiotic moments with teammates on mad Monday? If I was on a 500k+ contract and wanted to let my hair down after the season was over, I would arrange for my teammates to convene at a private country residence where we could party without scutiny.

I stay loose most of the time sinners. I dont need booze to be happy. Longevity runs in the family so unless my cells start multiplying at an unusual rate I have got that department taken care of as well
But I enjoy a session or two on the odd occasion just like the blueboys at the end of the season

And that has no correlation to their success on the field
As a society we have become so flower rigid in our thinking which leads to overreactions.
Personally I think your views on this subject our weird.
Stupid that the players would do it over the course of the season
But at the end of it. Big deal.
because in the end it isnt and the players did nothing wrong

Not a lover of excessive drinking at the best of times but who is to say that a bond hasn't been forged?

What was reported in the Hun was only a very small snapshot of what was done in the day. Does anyone know what was discussed between the players?

Does anyone know if a commitment for 2010 was made?

Does anyone know anything apart from the boys
partaking in Mad Monday?

I do know that one of the biggest party animals at the club didn't go drinking after the game at all. Possibly he had made a commitment to something other than drinking.

Josh, are you privy to the discussions before mad monday? Are you privy to the 'guidelines' set out by the club and or our leaders regarding mad monday?

All i can say on the matter is i think as long as it's in a controlled environment it's fine.

If these boys now go overseas and have a 4 week binge drinking trip then i agree we have to start worrying about it.

But all i can say is a certain Hawthorn defender after last years PREMIERSHIP win was seen on the pills constantly during there End Of Season Trip. and has now been spotted in the greek islands partying it up again.....

Or there is a certain North player that spent 2 post season trips with his mates in thailand on the mega buckets (anyone that has been to the party islands in thailand will know what i mean). He got sh^t canned every night for the 2 weeks i saw him.

Now you tell me, would you prefer the boys having one big night together at a bar. Or the above stuff occuring?

We can only hope that the boys are smart enough not to let the above occur.

MB

My name isnt josh... but im pretty sure we will have some players on an end of season trip as well as a mad monday.

i would rather they went overseas together for team bonding...and an education about the world...

travelling is a good thing in my honest opinion... it shows you how lucky you are ... and in some ways it educates you about the world..

those grant thomas trips were a great idea...

never having been out of melbourne or even australia doesnt open your eyes to life as much as having left your immediate environment and your comfy zone...

id rather the players went somewhere in a controlled fashion...
