What we've seen of Yarran, in glimpses admittedly, is exciting. It is the sort of player clubs clamor and want for. Yeah, he's a massive work in progress at the moment and will probably take a couple years to bare the sort of fruit expected of him, but when he does we'll sit back and marvel at HIS poise and HIS skills and HIS goal kicking and HIS ability to turn a game in a flash with HIS class.
Yarran's goal against the Swans, when he just put on the jets and ran away from his opponent is something the likes of which Daniel Rich will never be able to do. This little stocky, nuggety man is not going to get any bigger, he's not going to get any quicker and, although he will probably become more consistent, this is going to coincide with the departures of Black and Power and co who provide him with the cover and, in many ways, the on-field anonymity he is afforded.
Chris will get bigger and become more confident and assured; Rich is already there. I wait for the day Chris tears up the Lions and everyone sits back and says "That's why we got him" whilst everyone's favorite chunky man pie is battling it out in the clinches, tagged heavily.
Great post seanpb.
I think Rich will struggle to shake a tag in years to come due to his short height, lack of pace/athleticism and because his ball winning abilities aren't anything special. In my opinion some people are getting a little bit carried away about him. Other than possessing a fantastic kick there aren't many strings to his bow.
