This time last year you were saying he'd win us a flag.

Gibbs I thought was missing for a lot of the game but what can you expect for a 20 yo in his first final?
Didn't watch the Geelong final that closely but did anyone notice Selwood dominating?

Great thread idea here.

What I think is interesting is most of the regular posters would not post anything here.

They would rather be shit canning the coach, the players and the MC and other TCers.

How dissapointing only a few want to come and post positive things.

Didn't see to many predicting us to be in a prelim before the season. Most thought playing finals would be a good achievement.

Well we've done that and the knives are out. Pathetic.

Go Blues, thanks for a much better season. Can't wait to see you have another crack next year.

The journey continues....

There is a lot of upside in our group, as Ratts calls it. Top 4 will be the aim, I think we can achieve this, with all round improvement in our list and coaching. People also have to realise it takes time to implement game plans, and when we do dumb ass things like chip it around and go all static, I am sure it isn't the coaching staff's decision

Ratten will become our Grant Thomas.

He was the right person at the time to take over from Pagan and settle the playing group.

However, he's not the person to take us all the way.

For the most part, humans are denied a clear view of the future, we have to make our choices without this knowledge.

So this is why the identity of the new young coach that wins the 17th Carlton flag is a cloaked in mystery - and therefore it is guessed at.

Because Ratten was new and is still young it was (and to some extent still is) reasonable to give him benefit of the doubt. but of course, as time passes, the doubts grow - especially since that 17th flag is won early in the career of the 'new young coach'..

I have stated that we win this flag during a time when there is a war. This is obviously not something that has occurred - yet. But we are only one major terrorist incident or global oil shock away from a major war - not to mention the illusory US sponsored stability that exists in Iraq - the war on terror as it is being fought has meant that we are closer to a wider war than we were previously. - so the conditions that I speak of that surround this future flag are still very much alive.

I have also stated that our opponent at that time is St Kilda and that at the time of this premiership - it is very clear to all that in terms of the premiership clock - St Kilda are in their very last premiership opportunity before a major playing list overhaul is needed - and then they lose to Carlton. - Our Elimination final loss in 2009 has done nothing to prevent this scenario from occurring in the near future.

Naturally I am pefectly happy to be wrong and see us beat someone else - just as long as Carlton wins a premiership.

The fact that St Kilda finished the season the way that they did in 2009 and it is still early in Brett Ratten's Coaching career - means that these events were are real chance to come to pass in 2009. However last quarter fade outs and the suspension to Judd have put paid to this.

It really is a very fine line that we tread between alternate worldlines. It could have very easily turned out differently - and because of our record against Footscray - Carlton could well have been in a preliminary final - but either of Bradshaw and/or an extra goal to Carlton in combination with the problems with Judd's hand placement have put paid to this possibility. I think that Rex Hunt has a saying about bee's diaphrams that could be used here.

Free will and choices from ourselves and from others always determines the nature of the worldline that we will we on. But this is also overlayed by the fact that things alway work in cycles and the fact that Carlton has a young and developing team whose premiership window is only just starting to open.. It is only a matter of getting the most out of the players during a season - and whether this can be achieved by the present coaching structure.

So what we look at now is St Kilda's performance against Footscray and if they make it - in the Grand Final. It is not essential, but it would help the cause of the 17th Carlton flag if St Kilda lost either one of these matches - because this would help create the foreseen conditions of our flag triumph - winning the cup by beating a club on it's last premiership window opportunity.

The next coach would have to be intelligent, a clever tactician and motivator of people.

So I'd say that this qualification would rule certain people out.
