Who would the scream be directed at? It is sounds a bit disingenuous because it is not like as if there should be any link between the two players accept from misguidedly disgruntled Blues supporters.

Honestly if it was just a case of Pendlebury making it and Murphy missing out then the need to scream would be questionable. :?

The team hasn't been selected yet- you need to wait a few weeks.

I think if they overlook a midfielder who has kicked 30 goals (more than Ablett) then good luck to them.

Yeah, I'm wondering why everybody is just accepting the possible inside-knowledge too; unless I'm missing something.

Based on that Judd should not be in either.

No? Wins all our hardball, creates half of our play and you want him to drop back too? He works hard enough defensively.

Not according to Teflon - so we either agree with Teflon's comment or we don't.

Quote:
"Carlton have got some midfielders who've got to learn how to defend, they only want to play one direction and I'm quite happy to name them. I think Murphy, (Heath) Scotland, (Nick) Stevens, Judd - those four guys just don't defend," Wallace said on SEN after Saturday's loss to Adelaide.

I agree with Terry's general view, not with all the specific names.

I also believe Terry to be an authority on down-hill skiers. He's drafted nearly all of them.

I'd say the big reason Murphy has been noticed this year is the fact that he has kicked 30 goals. He can do that because he is offensive rather than defensive. I suppose the coaching staff need to work out if he becomes more defensive and kicks 20 less goals is that better for the team?
Just when we have found someone to give Fev a chop out Terry and Jimmae want him to stop goals rather than kick goals. I believe Terry will be doing the commentary on our game this weekend, wait for Carlton are too Fevola focussed at some stage during the call.

I don't want him to stop his role in the team, I want him to do it better.

All of his mates have assignments when the team doesn't have the ball and you can see them either doing them, or attempting to do them. You do not see that from Murphy; you see him constantly in no man's land back-tracking in a weak attempt to corral the oncoming opponent. Stevens, Browne, Grigg & Scotland have all been dropped for play of this ilk.

More defence less goals. He can't do both.

You're right, woof.

Jimmae, I think the role he's given doesn't allow him to get in good defensive positions and the amount of work his role requires takes too much out of him to be more defensive.

I think he's visibly one of our hardest workers, seeing him dodge and weave out of tackles then running free, kick inside 50, follow it up and kick a goal. I don't believe there is a player out there who is kicking goals, winning lots of possessions and tackling heaps/adding defensive pressure. You can have forwards who kick goals and run down opponents, but they're not going to get inside and win you clearances. You could have midfielders who tackle like crazy and win the hard ball, but they won't give you 20 plus goals a year

Players have their limitations and that's not going to change. Murphy is great at his role and he should be in the AA side because he has been the most productive goal kicking midfielder, every team needs a player like this, we just need other players to cover the other areas of the ground more effectively for team balance and that will go a long way towards eliminating perception that the team is one way traffic.

I accept that, but I watch him coast when we don't have the ball.

Not expecting him to be as defensive as some of his team mates because yes, he does have an attacking role to play, but he needs to demonstrate the capacity to be part of the defensive structure when we go through periods without the ball. If we're not getting the opportunities to attack, maybe he can sit back away from CHF when we have the ball and stop the opposition streaming up the corridor should there be a turnover. He can still do damage from there kicking to a lead.

There is a time to attack and a time to defend. Seemingly we go nuts in the offensive direction EVERYTIME we have the ball. I don't want start-stop football, I just don't want numbers streaming towards the 50 every single time.

Did anyone else just hear Gerard Healy let it slip that Fev will be the FF in the All Australian Team? :smoking:

Tool of the week Brian Taylor.

All Australian awards and all he wants to talk about as Judd is on stage, being presented as All Australian Ruck Rover, is pressure points.

Judd put him in his box pretty quickly.

"I really wanted to talk about pressure points tonight, so we move on, Brian"

And Big Bryza didn't.

Meathead.

Bad luck for Murph

Jason Porplyzia and Bernie Vince were stiff.
How does Chapman get a run over Porplyzia ??

Who was the unluckiest to miss?

Le Cras?
Murph... 31 goals ... great effort.
Mackie
Mitch Clarke
or
Didak?

I would think Clarke was the unluckiest or maybe Le Cras or Murphy...

Some seriously unlucky players. It must be tough to fit them all in, but let's home Murphy, Simpson or Gibbs can make the team next year.
