As noted I reckon the Lions are trying to suck us in a bit here.

I'm thinkin you may be right camel.

After all, isn't the coach's usual line something along the lines of:

"We'll give them every chance to play this weekend, fitness test, pulled up sore, etc. etc."

If it were not an elimination final - this may have been a little more believable.

You know what? I don't think this is anything aimed towards Carlton.

I honestly believe that he's trying to motivate the hell out of these guys to work their ass off on their rehab assignment throughout the week and then be their best players on the weekend.

I might be wrong, but I'm looking at it that way.

Sounds like Warnock is in pretty decent form in the ressies, I think we need to risk him.

Rotate him and Hampson off the bench in the ruck, play Kreuzer at CHF and get Betts, Yarran and Garlett to play around him.

Special K will keep the defenders honest (you can't leave him unmarked), making Fev more dangerous.

And Eddie, Yaz and Garlett will create a ton of forward pressure and make chances out of nothing whenever the ball hits the ground.

2 talls and 3 lightning smalls. It's how we're going to line up next season anyway, may as well field test it now.

Have to agree with most of this - in particular if Bradshaw is not playing we should stretch Lions as much as possible - as well would like to draw Brennan out of Lions forward line as he always seems to kill us when he plays up forward.

Not sure if we can have all three of Yarran, Betts and Gartlett in the side - but at least 2 of them would be good - with Walker playing as the dangerous third tall forward rather than in the backline.

This is a set up I would love to see as well. Can't see any problem at all with Yarran Betts & Garlett in same team. Also love the thought of Walker as the third tall in that set up (with Kruz & Fev). Having three (4 with walker) quick, dangerous & creative threats allows us to get plenty of physical spread on the forward line while still getting a quality crumber to each big man contest. Would make opposition defences very nervous and accountable IMO.

It would be a brave coach/mc that would gamble like this in our first final and I don't think they are that brave.

Not sure where this set up leaves Carlos. Probably more a depth/specific match up player. Especially when Jamo returns next year.

According to Mike Sheehan, Carlton are just making up the numbers in the finals.

He basically infers that there are six teams he rates - including Brisbane - and that Carlton aren't worth rating.

I think everyone is just so used to failure so they get all paranoid to use this as a defense mechanism in the event that these blokes play and damage us.

"nah, black wil play", why?

I hope the selectors would consider these changes:
In: Warnock, Betts, Garlett, Grigg
Out: Johnson, Browne, Scotland, Wiggins
Setanta and a Walker/Houlihan/ Carrazzo type going back (replacing Browne and Wiggins) to help beef up the backline. Kruezer, Hampson and Warnock change between the ruck, the bench, and the goal square (with Betts and Garlett crumming). Fevola on the lead toward the half forward line (no competing tall half forward; only Yarran/Walker/Houlihan types). No Cloke please; not mobile or tall enough; is too slow to be a forward or a ruck. Grigg is more versatile than Scotland and can go forward, back, and at stoppages (a poor man’s Hadley).

There's no way you'd go into a finals game and drop one of the only players on the list with finals experience - not gonna happen.

I would also take Wiggins for his strength and endurance. He may miss a few targets, but he's a hard nut who can take a contested mark and lay a crunching tackle.

I hope Wiggo plays I think he deserves a final - not that his game last week was anything to write home about but up until them he and Russell had been ok in defence

Exactly.... He jumps on and off bandwagons faster then Hawthorn fans...
The kind of negative crap that comes out of his mouth happens every time Carlton lose, then the next week after a good win, he's back again praising what good young players we 've got...

It will be interesting to watch Murph, Kreuz, Gibbs etc in their first final. In 10 years they'll be the Black, Brown, Power, Aker of the comp. finals will be a walk in the park.

If they can handle the hype, it'll guarantee us a win. We know Judd will be bloody hard for the Brions to handle. If Murphy, Gibbs and Fev proove just as hard we'll be off to the G next week to play the Pussies.

Bradshaw may noyt be very tall but he is too tall for most of our defenders. TBird will be undersized on Brown. Who do we play on Brennan and Bradshaw? Bower on Brennan. Then who on Bradshaw? Armfield, Houla, Wiggo, JR? It is the stuff of nightmares.

Also, I can't believe we will play Warnock. Surely no-one wants to see him trying to chase Mitch Clarke around the Gabba all night. And if he can't do that then we will be a man down. Clarke was up against Jolly last week, who is a genuinely good ruckman in form. Clarke was bog. He will be a tad better than any opponent Warnock had during the walkover against Frankston.

Nup, it's www.brisbanelionsunited.com

They're shitting bricks about Fev by the sounds of things, and with Merret gone they're predicting using Rich to run off half back.
