Jezza is, by a mile, the most freakish player I have seen. Did things with an oval ball that defied all logic. Fondly remember, as a 9yo, running on to the G when he kicked his 100th.

Fev, however, is easily the best full forward we've had. Jezza really only had a few years as the designated FF. Despite Jezza's freakishness, Fev has kicked many more 'ridiculous' goals. He's also a better kick.

Soapy would, of course, disagree and would delight in telling everyone why he's the best.

Love the poll - voted Vallence even though I love Fev...it's clearly Soapy for mine at this stage.

Disappointed you couldn't include Ross Ditchburn or Warren Ralph in this lot!

Agree with you here Doc Sherrin - both of these guys had potential to be absolute greats and it was disappointing their respective careers were cut short for different reasons. Both of these blokes kicked bags of 10-12 on several occasions, one thing Fev has never done.

One big thing in Fev's favour those is that he has been FF to one of the poorest Carlton teams of all time in that 2002-2006 period and the likes of Ditchburn and then Ralph had players like Wayne Johnston, Jim Buckley, Craig Bradley and Wayne Harmes banging the ball on their chest.

Fev has had to do with the likes of Simon Fletcher plonking hospital kicks into his general vicinity.

So everyone has different criterias...

Goals were harder to come by in Soapy's era when it was legal to kick the ball out of bounds to waste time.
Any one know how average scores then compare with today when we have flooding and so on?
Anyone else at Princes Park in '69 when Carlton kicked 30:30? Big Nick had an on-field presence that I haven't seen the like of.
Big Nick finished with a handy 6 goals from the forward pocket in the '72 Grand Final as Captain-Coach.
Sticks' 7 goals in a losing team in the '93 Grand Final was great performance.
Jezza and Baldock had awesome skills. As a Carlton suppoter I rate Jezza ahead of Baldock.

Yes George, I was sitting in the Robert Heatley stand that day and can still remember how good it felt.

Soapy by the swipe of a cake.

Then Jezza cos fair dinkum if the backmen then had to be as respectful of arms, heads, back etc and they are now Jezza woulda kicked a @#$%&! 1000 goals in one season!!!! (nad Hudson and co even more  ) Jezza second only cos I'd have him on the flank.

Then Fev - but if he's playing and we win a flag

then Fev might just come out on top (with Jezza still on the flank)

Oh and I was there when we kicked 30:30 - should have been 50:10 - now that would have been something.

I said yes..........

Fevola is a True Forward, and a brilliant one at that. He does stuff that he shouldn't be able to, and he can cause teams to crumble singlehandedly. Only freaks can do that!

Fevola too, can do what only champions can do...........completely silence a crowd of opposition supporters and errupt them just as easily.

To be able to win a Coleman Medal in a team that finishes LAST is a phenomenal feat and i don't think people quite understand just how well he did that year with the delivery that he was given. I mean, we only won THREE games for the whole year - and he manages to kick 84 goals. Goodness me!

I must admit, i was not around when Jezza was playing, i was only born in 1980 so i can really comment, but Jezza is a legend nonetheless. He can play forward, back, wing...... hell dad even said that he saw him in the ruck one day.

But Fevola for me if our greatest Full Forward. Hell, he could easilly hit 800+ goals within the next 3 years!

Fev is easily the best Full Forward. He is in his prime now and hopefully will stay that way for the next couple years.

How ironic that alot of people on this site wanted to trade Carlton's best full forward the last couple years on this site for 1st round draft picks hey :).

Would not be in the finals with out him in 2009, 2010 and probably 2011.
But hey, thats for another thread.

Go Blues 09 and Fev to kick 10 first finals game :)

I was standing in front of the Heatley. We thrashed them in the return match at Glenferrie as well. Remember the Sporting Globe headline "Blues Pluck Hawks Bare Again"

Brian Kekovich was OK as well but not in the class of those mentioned above. Left footer, funny kicking style but pretty accurate when it counted. Won a flag which some of the others didn't and Fev has yet to do.

Good call Warby. If Fevola had a strike rate the same as O'brien, he'd be on 686 goals by now - basically 20% more than what he's on.

If goals per game is your criteria, O'Brien is up there.

If longevity and goals per game is your criteria.......?

I didn't realise he had that great strike rate.....but he did kick 10 goals from 12 shots in one game......then kicked 73 goals

the next year to run second in the League Goalkicking......then suffered a bad injury in the next preseason, and retired.

He was fast....clever..... a good mark; and was extremely accurate using Peter Hudson type flat punts.

fev isn't even close! jezza, soapy (who my grandfather says would beat them all), kernahan way before fev. better team players who contributed to successful era's in carltons history. unfortunatly fev will be remembered more as a character who played in carltons worst period in its history.
