Were they 15 minutes late for recovery?
Or did they miss it all together?

Big difference in my opinion.

Garlett and Betts are fantastic players. Hope they can make it back in the team the following week.

I am in favour of any decision that assists Carlton in winning matches. Let's hope this is the right decision.

People aren't robots and they make the odd mistake (Assuming they were late for the recovery...missing all together is a larger mistake). End result - this takes away a lot of our speed and forward line pressure - mmm. Adelaide are in the box seat- change your tips.

very disappointed in the three players and they all need to have a good look at themselves.

well done by the club. it is the right decision and will benefit in the future. never would of happened over the past decade and probably shoved under the carpet but now shows there is a new attitude and discipline.

Check out some over reactions will you ?? The same people going troppo now were calling for Big Setant's head after his pre season incident with Cloke...
The only big loss of the trio who were suspended is Eddie, and even he hasnt had that good of a second half of the year... Hammer/Sauce/Warnock in for Cloke, Yazz in for Eddie, Grigg in for Garlett... Problem solved ..
The suspension will only work in a positive way for the guys, as it will steel their resolve and get them focused and motivated for the Finals more then ever before..
The Club has handled this incident well in my opinion, and players are now aware that the days of being slapped with a wet lettuce leaf when doing the wrong thing are well and truly OVER... As Fev just said on Triple M, 'you have to breed the right culture'..

Well done to the club.

Irrespective of the circumstances, late or failure to turn up, there has now been a line drawn. The message is clear: get on board or you'll miss out.

I applaud the leadership group for this fearless decision. It would have been easy to overlook the indiscretion because of the importance of Saturday's game. That they did not gives me real confidence that we are coming, and that the players are beginning to understand that something more is required to achieve success.

This now gives opportunities to others, on the eve of the finals against a finals team.

Very silly boys. They may just not get back in this year!

Go Blues.

Silly boys. Good on the club for making a brave decision. It would have been much easier to fine them. Gives the opportunity for guys who have worked hard in the ressies like Jacobs, 206, Browne and Ellard to get a shot at playing finals.

Or were they 15 minutes late and in very poor condition for recovery?

We don't know the full story, but I personally believe that they were late, which would seem harsh to suspend them for it.
If they were late, but a not in the best condition, then a message will need to be sent to remind them of what is required to be an AFL player.

I can understand how some on here may be a little sceptical on whether the club would have taken the same action with higher profile players, but from the outside looking in, I do believe that the CFC has a real problem with booze. Players that have had drinking related issues during our dark years include Fev, Betts, Stevens, Whitnal, Cloke, Scotland, Garlett and a couple others that I can't recall right now.

I think that Ratts is trying to correct the culture whilst still keeping a supportive role with the players. Whitnal was sacked, Fev has been read the riot act and made to take counciling, but I also believe that the club has been speaking to Alex to help mend the relationship. Judd was brought to the club and made captain which highlighted the lack of leadership in our senior players. Stevens has been dropped as has Scotland. And now these 3 players have been suspended.

I do think for the most part that the Club is now heading down the right path and our young guns have a very professional attitude, so in the next few years our leadership group will be a very strong one with guys like Murphy, Gibbs, Simpson, Carrazzo, Waite, Judd, Walker, Kruezer, Jamison & Russel bringing a new era of disciplin and professionalism to the club.

The leadership group has set the standard and stimulated the decision. They've determined what is required, with a far deeper knowledge than me of where we at and what we must migrate to in order to be the best.

On a separate note normally, i do not stomach Patrick Smith's view....however, on this occasion he sums it up "well done to Carlton, they are making the tough decisions as a football club, recognizing there are far grander prizes on offer (vs a home final) for a disciplined football club"

The fact it wasn't more senior/important players, is probably the reason they're more senior/important.

..really..?.. ..last year Fev pisses on a window, he didn't get suspended.. ..this year, players havin' a booze up with the prez after the loss at GC.. ..talk of Fev tryin' to rope other players into a drinks session after the adelaide loss at aami.. ..or are drinkin' sessions allowed interstate..??.. ..don't get me wrong, i'm happy the club's trying to enforce discipline.. ..i've yet to see true/proper consistency though, and from club actions in the past i'm skeptical they'd have done the same thing if say it was fev, gibbs, murph, judd, krooz etc etc..

Yeah, fully support the club with it's decision.

Whilst it's not as bad as say turning up to training overweight or worse still, Druged up or anything like that, it's still disrespectful to the team!

Bloody hell theres gonna be a few changes this week then huh?

Hopefully Betts and Garlett kick bags in the first final, because they will be keen to atone

I mean, we've all done all-nighters at their age and i am definitely not against any player having fun but don't let it compromise your work and make sure you turn up to wherever you need to be at your workplace on time. Have a bucketful of coffee, 50 redbulls, whatever it takes, just make sure you're there and in a state to participate in their case.
I did it numerous time, straight from bar/club to clock on at work. You struggle but you get through!
Or taper off if you cant manage that. Make sacrifices if need be, especially at this time of year with finals beckoning!!! :screwy:

This is a blessing in disguise. Betts will come back next week and will be eager to make amends. He has looked quite sore recently so I'm sure the break will help him.

With those 3 out, players like Grigg, Yarran and Browne may get a gig and will play their hearts out (I suspect) to earn a spot for finals.

I am glad the club has taken a stance and won't accept this kind of behaviour. It has worked for collingwood and geelong and I hope it will work for us as well.

Ratten press conference just on the radio;

After Essendon* game rules were set.
Out late, were extremely late to training and if not for a phone call they may not have made it at all.
Match committee made the call, spoke to leadership group and got their views-they thought it was a fair call.
Yarran will come in this week and may stay in.
Hampson close to coming back-Jacobs more likely to come in ahead of Warnock if he doesnt come up.
Was asked if it had been Judd, Gibbs and Murphy who had made the same mistake would the punishment have been the same. Answer-they were too professional to do something like that and yes it would have been.

I'd rather hope that the guys that come in keep them out of the first final.

Wasn't that post season?

I understand what you mean about the interstate trips. If it were up to me, then unless the team won, no-one would be going out after the match, it would be straight back to the hotel, or back on the plane immediately. Rewards have to be earned.
