We need to move away from the age of amateurism.
This is not about round 22 or this years finals... its about the next 10 years...

Players need to know that the club is greater than the individual and that amateurism is not to be tolerated if were going to be fair dinkum and a power into the next decade...

Disappointed especially with Eddie...

I know from a club insider that they weren't actually late
In fact they didnt turn up at all because they were out till the early hours drinking
The only good thing is they told the truth to the coach when questioned as to their absence
But they should go for the rest of the year not only this week
Do they have any brains in their head to go and do this at this time of the year

I can confirm they were on the turps and owned up to it.

Very poor timing.

The HS also didn't quite get it right. These three clowns didn't roll up to the rehab session at all.

Ratts took a tough stance with Stevens for being overweight and undisciplined. This pales into insignificance in comparison.

So you want to field a team with training habits from the 80s in 2009?????

Discilpline is all important these days.

Very disappointed in these boys.

The world needs people like Dennis Rodman as much as it needs

people like Judd

There is a time and place and this is the wrong time for a suspension

Football is about putting the best TEAM on the park, not the best talent. Playing talented players who have no discipline or team ethos is wasting everyones time.

Why do you think Scotland and Stevens were told to go away and spend some time with the Bullants earlier this year?

Very disappointing but happy with the club's position.

Here's hoping that the stupidity of 3 players, doesn't impact on the rest of the team as they prepare for Saturday's game.

The 3 in question need to be told to stay away from the club for the rest of the week so as not to distract the players - the media frenzy is going to be intense.

Could be worse - we could have given Cloke a contract extension.

Congrats to the club for their stance on this - if anyone thinks we can win a flag with players behaving like this a fortnight before our first finals series in 7 years they are dreaming. Say we were to pick them - what kind of message does that send to the rest of the players? Sure, go out on the piss, don't turn up to training, we'll pick you anyway. You blokes busting your arses in the Bullants - too bad.

Wonder if he is hoping he gets an extension to finish off that ink....

But how dumb is that decision by Cloke?Could spell his AFL death....he had an episode at Collingwood he should have learnt from..

If one week out from our first finals series in 8 years, they were so pissed they didn't even make it to the recovery session, then a one week suspension is inadquate IMO. The lot of them should sit out the whole finals series.

Garlett should be retained as a rookie, rather than promoted (f that was under consideration).

Cloke should just be sacked.

Lol - they would be guaranteed games for life if they did!

Are West Coast still on the look out for a good small forward or two? Pick 6 & JK come on down .....

Disappointed in the individuals but if you're going to have a wake-up call on player professionalism and what's expected just before the finals you could hardly script it any better.

Just a minute... :sly:

Whats Eddie done the past month? Cloke? Garlett is a fringe player who played his best game last week.
Hardly significant outs - very happy the club is taking this stance- should have with some senior players earlier in the year but perhaps the message is getting across now.

Ya know, I can understand to go out on the turps if you have beaten a team in the like of, St.Kilda, Collingwood, Essendon* or like we did in Geelong.

But FFS we only beat bottom side in Melbourne, for what reason were these guys thinkin to get on the turps ????

There are plenty here who don't always agree with Synbad, but this comment is bang on, and I couldn't agree more.

OMG, are you serious ???

I WAS OVER THE MOON TO HEAR THAT THE CLUB FINALLY TOOK A STANCE AND TOOK SOME ACTION AGAINST PLAYERS NOT STICKING TO THE TEAM RULES !!!!!!!!!!

I was pissed to hear the rumours about the boys partying up at the GC, and it being a reason why we lost the Fremantle game. Something should have been done there and then, which may have prevented action needing to be taken a week out from the finals !!!!!!!!!!

I doubt that ALL that went on was 3 players turning up late to a recovery session, but won't go speculating what went on until the club releases a PROPPER statement (sounds to me like the info of the boys being suspended was leaked, and the Icke statement is a quick statement until a real one can be made).

As to the players who were dropped, all 3 would have been talked about at the selection table anyway IMO. I would have been happy for Betts to have been rested last week, he looks tired and in need of a rest. Garlett had a GREAT game, and it's a shame he has done this SOOO close to the finals as it will be a challenge for him to get back into the side for the following week, but he will learn and it gives Yarran a go in the Seniors. Cloke was LUCKY to be retained against the Demons, and would have been on the chopping block this week anyway. So, IMO, it's no MAJOR loss to the side for all 3 to sit out (Betts' and Garlett's forward line pressure will be missed, but it will be a challenge for the boys who come in to take over where they left off)

Changes

In/Out

Grigg/Hadley
Yarran/Garlett
Hampson (or Jacob's if Hampson doesn't come up)/Cloke
Armfield/Betts

I would prob move Anderson up forward to add some defensive pressure, and move Armfield down back to play as the small defender.
