He has played about 50 games and showed last week and last night by going back, that he is the versatile tall we need in the absence of Waite. There aren't that many talls of his ability kicking around.
As for his kicking skills, did anybody notice him run around the mark last week and put a 50 metre left foot bomb to the top of the square?
His style kicking short isn't pretty but he rarely misses a target. Time to leave that part of his game out of the 'cons' section.
He may not be in our best 22 when Kreuzer, Waite, Jamo, Hampson and Warnock are all available but he should always be available as a genuine utility in the twos if he isn't in that best 22.
And he does love to sing the song.

I hate to say this but if there is a player on the trading block who is made available for an established player and/or a pick I wouldn't be in the least surprised to see the Blues dangle Setanta. I believe his value is as high as it is ever going to be, people are starting to recognise his talent levels yet he may not have a regular spot on our team as soon as next year.

If we move MK to the CHF position and give the ruck to the combo of Hampson and Warnock (which I have no doubt is the plan right now) then what happens to Setanta? We already have Jamo, TBird and Bower as the talls down back, we'd be carrying Kreuzer, Fevola, Hampson and Warnock as the other talls... We also have Jarrad Waite who can play a key position, Walker can if he has to slide into one...

Setanta's the man who in my opinion is worth the most who could be available.

I love the guy though and I pray he's not traded. I loved the way he took it to Cornflakes at AAMI last week, he's done nothing but impress me.

If all your hopes for Jamo, TBird, Bower, Kreuzer, Fevola, Hampson and Warnock come to pass we still need depth in the event that one or more of that seven is down on form or injury. As Hads injury shows anything can happen in AFL injury wise. Our present we have three of the seven unavailable for the seniors due to injury/form. We should realistically plan for two or three being unavailable at any given time - including Fevola. Our depth will be tested and due to the foresight of MC and Hughes we also have Austin continuing to develop.
Setanta appears to have the capability to further develop into an awesome player.

Yep, it tricks a lot of people who don't pay attention to it, but his kicking is pretty good; it just looks damn awkward. But hey, whatever works.

He provides a good overhead contest, and is then very good for someone his size when the ball hits the deck.

Setanta also does some great work off the ball, shepherding, blocking, and shielding other players in the marking contest.

Very happy with Big Carlos, deserves a new 2 year contract.

Does anyone have any footage of him on BTG last night, unfortunately missed it.

Thanks.

We have a list of 2 champion forwards, Setanta and 5 strugglers and people question whether we should keep Setanta? In terms of list management he's a mile ahead of others who can play that role. While Id like to see them try Austin a bit up forward and Waite up there upon his return, Setanta has done enough this year for mine.

I am a fan of Setanta's and of course we should extend his contract.

I agree that he may not be in our best 18 if all the squad is fit, but must get a nod to be in our 22. If we had Waite at Half forward or half back and/or Warnock in the ruck with Kruezer at CHF, then Setanta is the ideal tall to be on interchange. The fact that he is nearly 200cm yet can cover any position on the ground is a huge plus.

Just as I suspected originally not up to it played two good games against weak teams and since then has been a liability
we came up against footballers today and he was found wanting
if the club is seriuos about moving forward they should put this experiment to bed and move on

This year was about building a team for future success .There are times when you just have to say to yourself this bloke is as good as he is going to be and won't get much better
They should have moved Austin into the CHF role and left him there win lose or draw

Ahh Sydney you never give up do you. So Setanta was found wanting, how about the rest of the side? Given how we were thrashed from the middle the Carlton forward line was the place not to be. Our game plan meant that he was double teamed often and his chasing showed up the work rate of the full forward and his skills were certainly much cleaner than most of his team mates. Who are you going to replace him with? You want to get rid of him find someone better. There weren't too many better out there today.

Have you highlighted Setanta because you were happy with the performance of the rest of the team.

As a side we were really found out and there were lots of players worse than Setanta today. Truth is we are about 8 players short of a flag. Find someone better before you replace him

He was totally ineffective and the crows defence justed zoned off him and doubled teamed Fev
When you get to big games The CHF has to stand up and create a contest
He was the worst player on the park
Playing in the most crucial position on the ground you need better
Whilst he is taking up a spot in the team we going no where
