we've taken a great step with ratten, im not denying that, but its essential we take another next year.
im just worried that he wont know how to take the next step. silvagni seems to be learning (and experiencing) exactly that right now at st kilda under Lyon. i just dont know if ratten has the know-how. he sure would have learned a thing or two about losing as Danihers assistant at Melbourne.........

 :screwy: Yeah lets forget he played in '95 and almost exclusively in finals Teams. It didnt hurt Woosha being a Carlton assistant when we were shit. So it shouldnt hurt Ratts.

lets not confuse playing experience with coaching experience. by that reasoning anyone from brisbanes triple premiership team is capable of being a great finals coach?

Yeah ben, every player who played in a premiership should be a coach :garthp: You missed the point regarding Woosha.... What success did he get.... Ratts is a coach who had flag experience as a player and is now our coach. What issues do you have with him? 5 out of 6 seems quite good.

does anyone know how it seems to work in euro soccer? in terms of team managers and coaches and what their playing and coaching experiences are etc
to the best of my knowledge i dont think many champion players go on to become coaches and/or managers.

what about jimmy hird. INCREDIBLE understanding of the game. probably the best ive seen. you could actually see it on the ground, and i have no doubt he would be able to interpret that knowledge and understanding in a coaching role.
hirds knowledge of how the game is played was his greatest skill

Just another curly one, would Lyon have ever coached Ratts in the reserves back in the day?

Nah...Ratts wouldn't have played any reserves games between 2000 - 2003...Lyon was average until he went to Sydney.

How about Swanny put some of his past history to good use. I hear that one G Brown may now need to look elsewhere. I'd love to see him cross to Carlton in a senior assistant role. I reckon he would bring lots to the table. It would also really pee Eddie off. The rivalry would go up an extra notch.

I'd like to see him as defensive coach, but not senior coach.

This guy was considered a dud by the large majority of posters on TC and most were over the moon when he got the flick with Pagan. Many here said he had no idea and was only kept on because he was DP's mate.

Funny how he ended up at the Saints as an Assistant coach. Did someone say the Saints are undefeated. Maybe he's not so bad afterall.

So how do you equate his assistant coaching prowess with the saints being undefeated ?

Can I gather that what you are saying is that if he was not their assistant coach then the saints would not be undefeated ?

Assistant coaches are all the rave when their team is winning ... look at John Longmire ... all the rave 3 years ago but very little since.

For all we know the best assistant coach could be at Melbourne.

You gotta have the cattle.

My point here is that who's to say the Saints are going so well because SOS is an assistnat coach there. Maybe TE is the brains behind the teams success. Maybe SOS is just making up the numbers.

You hear that he's much highly rated than McKenna, but doesn't have the political nous to get a senior coaching job.
