One of the things I like most about him is that he's never really out of a contest. If there's a player about 10m in the clear he can chase them down and whilst he might not catch them he gives them something to worry about. Same in marking contests. If he's near where the ball is headed I'm usually confident he'll make the contest because he has excellent speed and leap. Which mean he's a dangerous bloke to have in a zone defence, because he truly covers a 'zone'.

..yeah he landed v.heavily and looked to be in pain, but he seemed to land pretty flat/evenly across his back..

It knocked the crap out of him but he jogged down to the forward line to ecstatic cheering from the fans for his efforts.

Got pats on the back and arse from just about every player in the huddle at the next break too. They obviously appreciated the effort.

This is not the first time he got up after a big hit -there was a game earlier in the year at the G where he broke his nose and looked like he had done his shoulder - He played the rest of the game under duress - I expected him to miss the next week but saddled up and did well

Go the hammer

PS Saw him at the family day at the start of the year a great young guy with the kids and his enthusiasm for life and football was really good to see

PS - Like the analogy with the young kouta but lets reserve our judgment at this stage -although agree there are some similarities

There have been a couple of instances in games of late that have really started to define just how good this kid could be. He has been dominating the ruck and starting to take a few grabs around the ground. He has run down a few whippets and when he is around the Implied pressure will only increase from here on in. Last night his bravery, the way he got hit and then got back up to play on, shows he is developing an AFL mind set and shedding the soccer mindset.

His body is gaining the power and strength required to take the buffeting week in week out. Paul Salmon and Simon Madden use to give us untold grief and I have no doubt the Huge Hammer will do exactly the same to others over the next 10 years. As an athlete he is stunning. Just wait until he gets his brain fully around this oval ball game.

Keep em comin Hammer and keep following the lead of the big K. Demand the footy

Agreed ! ...........our coach and his assisttants are copping a tad of criticism. But i reckon ruck specialist coach Mathew Capuano can take a massive bow.The improvement in 'The Hammer' is astonashing. Also Kruze is also getting beter and better, not to mention the unheralded Sammy Jacobs massive improvement...................so well done to Matty Capuano.

Must be kept away from the GC side. Even though he's still got 2 seasons I'd take the punt at the end of the season and extend his contract beyond 2011.

He's not going anywhere. He loves Melbourne and the Blues and his parents have moved to Melbourne also. Have no fear of the GC.

I'd happily trade him to the GC...

though I'd want picks 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 9 in return

Very tidy sister apparently. Funny story about Hutchy a few weeks back. He had a crack at her at a nightclub. She knocked him back. He allegedly replied "you know you only get one chance with a guy like me?"

Remember that, and exactly the sort of thing you'd expect from a knob like him.

A demand a picture of his sister, post-haste!

I'm asking the question. Would Hammer be the most improved player in the AFL this season? His tap work last night was first rate, and his work around the ground was just WOW.

Or most improved ruckman if the former is too big a call?

No way. We have found ourselves two gem tough as nails ruckmen in Kruze and Hammer. Love the passion these two play with. Warnock can take all the time he needs as far as I'm concerned...with Carlos settling into CHF no rush for 206 who in all honesty is an unknown quantity.
