One thing I noticed (being at the game) was that Judd was better protected this time. Walker did some of this work today. Good move - and about time. When Judd gets tagged we need to help him.

Struggle, win ugly, whatever one wants to call the last 6 weeks, the old adage that winning form is good form again holds true. Win enough eventually the confidence and ability come through as it did tonight.

Yeah dude. Geelong wanted to smash into him after half time. And wanted to smash the lights out of Joseph or whoever else was on Ablett. That was their plan, Watson said.

Our plan was TO WIN!

Whatever it is, it's in the past. I know we're coming.

Watch this year's replays of:

Rnd 1 Richmond
Rnd 2 Brisbane
Rnd 3 Essendon*
Rnd 5 Bulldogs
Rnd 6 Hawks
Rnd 8 Collingwood
Rnd 10 West Coast
Rnd 11 Brisbane
Rnd 12 St Kilda
Rnd 14 Freo
Rnd 15 Richmond
Rnd 16 Swans
Rnd 18 Kangas
Rnd 19 Geelong

...and you'll see alot of positives in this team.

That's 13 games we've done the jumper proud.

There's 50 hours of entertainment already with 3 games and finals to go...we're pups.

My review of the Blues' Entertainment Package circa 2010 over summer is going to be a lot of fun.

God help me if we win the Flag against the injury depleted Saints. :thanks:  :thanks:

We came to the game switched on and looked to have that zip back which we had earlier in the year.

Robbo was applying pressure early on, we were running the ball out of defence and delivering fairly well inside 50.

When Bower can run off half back we look a terrific side. The defence was excellent - Armfield for the second week in a row was barely beaten in a contest...Byrnes didn't score at all. Mooney presented well but Bower was still able to spoil often, while also providing that run off half back.

When we play with run we get it in there quickly. There were parts in the second quarter where Geelong's zone prevented us from this run but we still have to take the risk if we want to get the ball forward. SO much better than kick-mark kick-mark.

JR was excellent even though SJ wasn't fit. Had the confidence when in the best position to take a mark from an opposition kick. Stevens workrate was good for most of the game.

Hampson and Kreuz were also terrific, especially Hammer's courage where he dropped in front of a leading forward. Kreuzer's hardness at the ball and workrate were as you'd expect excellent.

The goal from the throw in is a glimpse of the future - Port Adelaide have used Brogan and Lade at throw ins for years and it throws teams off...they get confused and players get drawn away...you can manipulate the stoppage in your favour. So maybe Hampson can run ahead of where the ball will drop, taking his opponent (Mumford in this case) with him and leaving Kreuzer to take the ball out of the ruck with relative ease.

Simpson was probably BOG - 3 goals and provided that run along with Bower. Fev should have converted more chances but he was given space and took advantage of playing on a dud opponent.

One poor aspect of our play was kicking it to Eddie about 5-6 times even though Harley was right behind him - Eddie was virtually playing CHF at times...there's no way he'll outmark a tall defender yet some players thought he'd outmark Harley.

such frustrations are normal when watching a young and developing team.

first 5 minutes ... no life downstairs

end of first quarter something stirring

end of second quarter blood flowing freely

end of third quarter hard as steel

15 minute mark last quarter, very uncomfortable in the nether regions, no room to move, zip about to break

Siren goes ... so do I hammer and tong and we sing the song!

unbefriggenlevable ... we are still a long way off but geez this will give a lot of self belief to the boys.

So happy could cream my pants again ... :garthp: just did!

Agree! It seems when we play the stronger teams our attitude is to go for it and the whole team puts in. When the media talk us up as being a shoe in playing against a weaker side the wheels fall off big time.

Thats one of the major problems facing the coaching staff...how we cope with expectation and one I think they have struggled with at times.

Many of this group just aren't used to being expected to win. They seem to just tense up and suffer a bit of the deer in the headlights syndrome. If our coaches can get us over that hump and or if we get used to actually being expected to win I think we will become a much more consistent team not only week to week, but within games.

Great intensity and defensive pressure tonight, coupled with denying the Cats the ball and a few key matchup wins made for a very enjoyable evening

Go Blues
