I believe one of the the last times we played this mob at the G was the 1995 GF.

Good omen? We shall see...

My memories of that glorious day...

* My friends and I changed our "before game ritual" completely from the cursed one in 1993. We really didn't want a repeat performance.

* I was quietly confident but didn't dare express this.

* Would Deano play or not? We all hoped he would. I was happy when I saw the big No.35 run out on the ground. He was the heart and soul of the team. We loved Deano...

* Braddles winked at Sticks after kicking our first after missing a sitter a few minutes earlier. I knew then...

* One of my ever-confident friends declared it all over at the 10 minute mark of the 2nd Q. We were all upset at this reckless display of confidence but we knew he was right.

* The nerves of the preceeding week were all for nothing as the close game everyone was predicting never came. We were too good, they were weak, hand-bag carrying @*&#$!

* I looked at the time clock at the 28 min mark of the last Q and I realised it really and truly was ours... we'd have a great night!

* That night, a normally conservative friend (a TC regular) threw caution to the wind on our long walk back to the celebrations at Princes Park and exposed himself out of sheer euphoria. Fortunately for us it was night time.

* Upon reflection, during a quiet moment later that night I likened us to a once proud beast who'd been caged, tied down, ridiculed and written off but who would no longer accept his lot and lashed out with a ferocious savagery that stunned all observers. "They will respect us again".

Nice sentiment heatley stand, but not true. We've played the Cats at the G a number of times since then, winning in 2001.

This does seem to be the first Cats v Carlton match at the G since 2001 though.

That 2001 game was one to rival last weeks in terms of general lack lustre-ness (at least last week was close).

1995 memories

* Camped out after Paul Kelly won the brownlow and got the last two tickets that Highpoint Shopping Centre was able to sell.

* Saw Brad Pearce and Matthew Richardson walking to the MCG together. Pulled up alongside them to wish Brad luck. "Thanks, but we dont need the luck today. We're gonna kill them."

* Saw Stephen Kernahan with my mother before the game... Saw him in 1993 before the game.... Wished him luck both times.. 1993: "Thanks... we'll need it." 1995: same as Pearce, essentially "Thanks but we dont need it."

Remember the postmatch, singing in and around the cheersquad. Was featured on the telecast as the players did their lap of honor. Remember going to Princes Park at night and the following day. Happy memories!

Who could forget Geelong's win on the day of Craig Bradley's testimonial?

I was quietly confident of a win - but dared not say so.

I am also quietly confident of another big future win by Carlton - But I dare not say so.

I consulted I Ching in June 1995 and asked how we'd go and got a very favourable response. True story.

The Cazzes were at the game and as soon as Braddles kicked that goal I turned to Mrs Caz and said....'We're gunna win this".

It was just never in doubt after that goal in my mind.

I was a bit worried that Shane Breur, David Mensch, Stephen Handley, Michael Mansfield , were going to tear us a new one early.

Let's face it, the only one who played well for them was Hicky.

Stephen Handley was one of our best players!

I will say it for you BM and I know this is going to seem strange coming from me  but I think we are going to go further in September than what many believe. Dare I say the last day in September even.

Just a feeling, like the one I had about the Dawks pre-season and there hangover.
