Heard Ratts on the radio say something along the lines of "our best chance to be in the game is to limit Geelong's possessions".

While this is probably stating the bleedin' obvious as a "tactic", if it creates the mindset in the players to hang on to the ball at all costs, we will be
in deep doo-doo. Chipping sideways, backwards, marking then stopping & looking around for 5 minutes etc etc.

Got to take them on, not be cautious.

GO BLUES

think this may have been more a reference to adelaide's switch in the 2nd half from kicking deep into the F50 to spotting up leading targets around the 50 ... ie kicking between the zones.

but as someone else mentioned, it's not a strategy we've been able to pull off on a regular basis (if ever) so i remain skeptical ...

HYOOOOOGE!

I'm still praying to Yahweh, God, Allah, Buddha, and The Great Architect that Geelong get a massive bout of gastro a day or 2 before the match. Especially Milburn. Although it would be more amusing to see him develop it on-field.

El Kapitan hopes Milburn gets heartburn

So they have Chapman and probably Scarlett and Taylor out

While we have Jamison out (possibly for the rest of the season) while Thornton and Bower should hopefully play.

Hopefully Fev can have a day out and give the Cat's a scare.

Yep, not to mention James Kelly, Tom Loneghan (spelling) are also out and both Ablett and Harley are still under a bit of a cloud. Harley looked in all sorts in the game against Adelaide.

I know Loneghan is a bit of a spud, but they have been using him as an extra tall down back to cover for Scarlett and Taylor when required, so it’s going to leave them very exposed PROVIDED we can give some decent supply to our forwards.

The other big bonus for us is the lack of an established ruckman. No Ottens or Blake to compete against will make life a little easier for our young ruckmen compared to the last couple of matches between the sides.

It’s just one of those games this week where something’s gotta give. We can’t keep playing this ugly football that we have been playing since the break forever, the laws of averages says we’ve gotta have a night where we play out of our skins and all the luck goes our way for a change.

For some reason I have been optimistic about this game all week despite many times over the last few weeks saying that we were playing disgraceful footy and would be lucky to make the 8.

A win over Geelong – however undermanned they may be – might just be the shot in the arm our young team needs just before some play in their first AFL finals series ever.

GO BLUES!!!!

You took the words out of my mind Mil.

That's how I feel...and when I have this feeling, I'm usually right, and so I have a punt.

If all the ducks line up and come to play.

Hoping for another 99 type finish and hoping this game could be the start.

We struggled for at least 2/3rds of 99, got it together in the end and, amazingly, played Roos in GF. Beat Bummers in 99 prelim after losing by 76pts to them in Rd 16. Yes, Rd 16! This was going through my mind as the Pies were hammering us a few weeks ago.

Not saying for a moment we'll repeat this, but I'd say there is still plenty of room for improvement with this group.

You never know.

More wise words

This is a massive massive game for us....This is our only realistic chance to beat a top side with few outs...

We really need to push for a home final to make a difference in the Finals. Playing Adelaide or Brisbane away is a huge task and i don't think our current form will let us beat both of these teams away...

Our current Form is horrible and not worthy of a Finals Spot. We need to lift our intensity. I don't know why they are playing with no passion nor commitment. They look very NOT interested.. :(

My personal opinion is that they are young and tired ... thats what I hope ... because if its the other way like u say ...

Does anyone think that the Cats will rest a few players to allow us to win to ensure that there aren't too many options left for the Dawks to make the 8?

Conspiracy theory or what?

I like the way you're thinking DUC 'though I believe the Cats aren't resting players through choice. My man (Geelong through and through) believes we are a good chance this week and would be happy enough to see us get up (and I don't think it's a case of happy wife, happy life).

I think most footy supporters would be happy enough to see the Hawks miss the finals. Might have something to do with the arrogance of their supporters!

Interesting comment from Mooney on One Week At A Time last night. He mentioned how disappointed the team was in their efforts to protect Ablett from the close tag (Shirley). You can be guaranteed that whoever gets the job on Ablett this week is in for a torrid time. If Mooney decides to lift this area of his game we have to get stuck into him and take his mind off the ball and focus it on the man. If the boys are willing to wear a few bumps, we could come out on top of the free-kick ledger.
Wont make any difference re` free kicks. They are the most looked after team in the comp.

Its time to bring back the Wiggler!!! We have missed his hardness since he has been gone. Fisher made me realise how much i loved him.

With Chapman out, along with Scarlett, and Wiggins IN for us

WE CAN'T LOSE!

Interesting article by Greg Denham. It also shows why we have been inconsistant with so many player turnovers (37 players used).

Gerard Healy last night was really pushing for the Hawks to make the finals at our expense and stated that one more win for us was not enough to be safe.

Its true one win alone may not get us a finals spot. Depending on what happens with other games.

Anyone else think Fev might have a day out considering that the AFL has come out and said they will focus on the negative treatment that forwards get from defenders this rd. Considering that we play on the Friday night game the umps may be more concious as to be seen as cutting out this negative treatment, so Fev might actually get a few free kicks for once !!!!!!!!! Add to that the depleted Cats backline, and you have a pretty good recipe for a +6 goal game for Fev (which is the min we would need to be ANY chance of winning the game)

Hawks or Essendon* would need to win 3 out of their last 4 games and us 1 from 4 for us to miss out...

we would still make it. We have a much better %. The only way for us to not make it is if Hawks or Bombers win 3 more games than us. With four games left and being 2 games ahead of these teams plus a better % (which is worth a game) we would have to lose to Melbourne not to make it.

However, depending on who finishes 5th and 6th should determine if we would rather finish 7th or 8th. We want to avoid Adeliade.

I'd prefer if controlled our destiny rather than the win/loss ratio of other teams.
