While we have Jamison out (possibly for the rest of the season) while Thornton and Bower should hopefully play.


Hopefully Fev can have a day out and give the Cat's a scare.

Heard Ratts on the radio say something along the lines of "our best chance to be in the game is to limit Geelong's possessions".

While this is probably stating the bleedin' obvious as a "tactic", if it creates the mindset in the players to hang on to the ball at all costs, we will be
in deep doo-doo. Chipping sideways, backwards, marking then stopping & looking around for 5 minutes etc etc.

Got to take them on, not be cautious.

Chapman out is HUGE for us.

Wow...so Chappy is out..well,with Chappy,scarlett and Taylor out..it might put pressure on us to win..or look bad...no wait..everyone already thinks we are bad...except when they are promoting the game...like on SEN where Eddie says what a HuGE game it will be after they all say we are just makin up the no's in the 8.
But don't worry..we could just get one of the our players..(maybe Fev) to bury the ball when no one is looking..that way...they can't possess the ball and hopefully...we win.
Or..we could just play really well...as a team...and WIN!!!

Geelong will not take any chances with the fitness of their players. Any doubts and they will be left out. So I expect Chappy, Scarlet and Taylor not to play. I think the Cats have one eye on Round 21 when they play the Bulldogs. They'll be looking to send them a message following the Round 9 narrow escape and especially given there is a chance they will face them in the first week of the finals.

I expect Ablett will be looking for a big game. I don't think he was overly happy with his game against Adelaide. I was at the game and he just seemed frustrated at times. As for reports he has a calf injury, well the same rumour went around on the Thursday prior to the Hawthorn game following a closed training session and he's played both games since. They wouldn't risk him given he missed a couple of games earlier in the season with the same issue.

The danger man is Bartel. Jimmy's been in great form the past couple of weeks, floating forward and back. I'd like to see Walker play on Bartel. They are both strong overhead, hard at the footy, can run all day and play forward or back.

To have a chance on Friday night we need to:
1. Ensure we attack the footy. We need to match the Cats intensity. There are plenty of Geelong guys playing for their spots in the team so they will all be hard at it. If they're not they don't get a game.

2. Hit our targets. If we murder the ball like we did against the Pies we will get killed on the rebound.

3. Run and spread. Give the guy with the ball some options down the field.

I hope they take on the game like they did against the Saints. If we don't win, we need an honourable loss for our confidence going forward and our percentage.

Kaptain I understand why Milburn is on the hit list at Carlton but, did you know that Milburn was a Carlton supporter as a kid? I heard him interviewed on K Rock following his 250th game and he mentioned going to games at Princess Park with his Dad.

Interesting comment from Mooney on One Week At A Time last night. He mentioned how disappointed the team was in their efforts to protect Ablett from the close tag (Shirley). You can be guaranteed that whoever gets the job on Ablett this week is in for a torrid time. If Mooney decides to lift this area of his game we have to get stuck into him and take his mind off the ball and focus it on the man. If the boys are willing to wear a few bumps, we could come out on top of the free-kick ledger.

No, I didn't know that.

I have to say, while I dislike him, there's a begrudging respect I have to give him in the last few years. He's been one of the most reliable players in the comp for some time. Love to have someone like him at PP.

This is a massive massive game for us....This is our only realistic chance to beat a top side with few outs...


We really need to push for a home final to make a difference in the Finals. Playing Adelaide or Brisbane away is a huge task and i don't think our current form will let us beat both of these teams away...


Our current Form is horrible and not worthy of a Finals Spot. We need to lift our intensity. I don't know why they are playing with no passion nor commitment. They look very NOT interested..

Actually, given we've won 4 of the last 5, it could be argued our form is pretty darn good.

I agree, we haven't been playing well, though, and definitely need to lift the intensity.

..odly enough, while i agree that our form has been less than impressive since the split round [despite us still winning] and said form makes you question finals legitimacy.. ..we've been in the top 8 for the majority of the season so far [aside from one round i think], and we look more than likely to be in the top 8 come end of season, so that to me says that we are a top 8 side, in spite of our performances.. ..the issue is the finals system, the top 8 is possibly a few teams too many.. ..v.hard to have an impact from the lower end of the top half, then again if you manage to hit peak form right before the finals campaign and go all the way it's a v.big effort when your opponents pretty much have most advantages against you..

Yep, not to mention James Kelly, Tom Loneghan (spelling) are also out and both Ablett and Harley are still under a bit of a cloud. Harley looked in all sorts in the game against Adelaide.

I know Loneghan is a bit of a spud, but they have been using him as an extra tall down back to cover for Scarlett and Taylor when required, so it’s going to leave them very exposed PROVIDED we can give some decent supply to our forwards.

The other big bonus for us is the lack of an established ruckman. No Ottens or Blake to compete against will make life a little easier for our young ruckmen compared to the last couple of matches between the sides.

It’s just one of those games this week where something’s gotta give. We can’t keep playing this ugly football that we have been playing since the break forever, the laws of averages says we’ve gotta have a night where we play out of our skins and all the luck goes our way for a change.

For some reason I have been optimistic about this game all week despite many times over the last few weeks saying that we were playing disgraceful footy and would be lucky to make the 8.

A win over Geelong – however undermanned they may be – might just be the shot in the arm our young team needs just before some play in their first AFL finals series ever.

Hoping for another 99 type finish and hoping this game could be the start.

We struggled for at least 2/3rds of 99, got it together in the end and, amazingly, played Roos in GF. Beat Bummers in 99 prelim after losing by 76pts to them in Rd 16. Yes, Rd 16! This was going through my mind as the Pies were hammering us a few weeks ago.

Not saying for a moment we'll repeat this, but I'd say there is still plenty of room for improvement with this group.

this is our biggest problem. The games I have seen this year has highlighted the fact that we are lazy when we need to run to give options and make space for team mates when coming out of defence.

Adelaide's run from the backline was just awesome on Saturday, not to mention how quick their hands were to players running past. I know we've revisited the Saints game many times, but we were at our best doing this exact thing against them.
Bower, Austin, Joseph and Armfield from memory....if we can't get this right we are in trouble!
