No game plan

Too defensive (and not in a good st kilda way)

Very reactive

Very weak in the media

No talent in the box to help him (this is because he wont allow it)

Wants to bring back the carlton swagger - ppphhhhhhhhhhhhh. How bout just win some games and show us you're developing our kids and forming a gameplan that will win us a flag

Wrong. No gameplan that you know, or know of.

Yes, can be some games, and at certain times. Might be part of his gameplan, or to set up other parts of a gameplan.

Yes, definitely. Seems to take far too long to implement change which is to our benefit, ie: shaking Judd's tags, positional changes.

Wrong. Actually, he's been pretty good, from what I've seen. I've done some media training, and he's direct, honest, doesn't fluff about not answering.

And you know this how??

Ummm.....we're sitting 10-8. The first time we've been on the positive side of the ledger for years.

Gotta walk before we run. Right now, we're taking steps. I see us breaking into a run next year.

Overall score on your post: FAIL.

Some stunningly cunning posts there

But....really..can we not give the bloke a little time please?
and the young lads...a little time...surely....
ok...maybe we can tweak the helping hands team surrounding Ratts..maybe Harvey(hope not)will go and Soz will return..
but you know...
I've got a feeling...a feeling deep inside...oh yeah..that we are on track..and all this fussing...and fretting...geez....did the soufle rise for Julie?..oh..oops...lost track...i think I mean...if we do rise..and maybe beat Geeeeeeelong or...Port...in Port...or Crows for last game...(ok..we won't beat Melbourne..that's obvious)...but...IF we do win some of these big games, surely Ratts will look not so bad ...maybe even a little lovable???

Ratts needs to turn this around as the doubts are spilling out and thats not good for a coach.

Without doubt, your best comment on the whole saga.

Meanwhile, Mark Williams is so well thought of by James Hird, that he gave a 'polite thanks but no thanks'

I thought only 'the poor and ignorant in anything to do with coaching', Brett Ratten spouted stats because he knows jack shite about strategy, game plans, kick outs etc

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm will wonders never cease.

Sorry D.U.C.
I got lost after 'Rain Man'.
probably a chic thing...although Bomber doesn't go much by stats...
Could it be a left brain v right brain battle?
maybe a no brainer??
Is there a too hard basket around?

Oh and baz baz... even a dancer can see we have no gameplan!!!... and we need to find ourselves a gameplan.. to remove ourselves from the average ...
My job is an honourable job... and i am a bit of a billy elliot....im good at what i do.. and in the overall scheme of what i do... im not struggling... even though i dont have the resources ratten has to back me up....

Till ratten becomes good at what HE does... he will have to accept the criticisms..

Right now.. he is NO GOOD... so he gets criticised..

just like anyone else who is no good!!!

Ela levendi, can you answer my question from the other thread?

Well. It seems Synners may be right in one respect.

In hearing Ratts this afternoon on the way home, he seemed to have an almost unnatural fascination with the "if we have it, they don't" argument when discussing our potential gameplan for this Friday night.

Could be a long night with plenty of chipping sideways. It's getting very hard to defend this team against charges from mates who claim we've ruined Friday Night Football.

The chip it here and chip it there gameplan against this disciplined team will not work...we need to be breaking the lines. Slow build up to the fwd 50 will result in 10 players on Fev and with 10 of our own tagging this will leave no avenue to goal. Surely this cannot be the plan for this week?

The evidence for all to see:
1) We are way too tentative with or without the ball
2) We generally take too long to get the ball into the forwards, allowing opposition players to fill the holes/double team making it very difficult for Fev - but we still try kicking it to him.
3) We mostly choose to take the ball via the wings, rarely driving up the middle leading back to point 2, above.
4) Our tackling is wildly variable and often they don't stick or create spillages/turnovers
5) In too many games, it appears that our forward line is crowded and the opposition's open.

And there is more.

BUT, the question is "WHY is this so?"

The simplest reason is that Ratts is not up to it as a senior coach: either his game plan is no good or he is not good enough at communicating/teaching it.
BUT, Ratts' comments after the game seemed to highlight many of the same points above, indicating that he is not happy with the way we are going about it either. So, perhaps the players are not yet comfortable with the game plan which also explains why we look so tentative, still trying to think our way through each situation rather than it already being natural.
St Kilda played like this for the first season and a half under Lyon.

(Interestingly, one of the things I like about Judd, Gibbs, Robinson, Bower and a little bit Austin too is they will often shun the easy outside pass and rather look to drive in to the middle, either running or via a pass.)

Anyway, Ratts is going to be there when we start 2010. Let's hope that something happens to alter the 5 points above sooner rather than later!!

Your mates are tools. There have been some other horrendous matches on Fridays not involving us.
