If we take it that Ratts will be there next year, who do you want to hire to surround him with some better coaching talent?

Who is out there that would make a significant difference to Carlton's development and Ratt's development?

Laidley? Matthews? Sumich?

I still want Knights his game plan and list is so much better than Ratts should work a treat against a tanking West Coast at Subi and surely it would mean that they would murder Richmond on the expanses of the MCG

Whoever presents the best in th context of an extensive process...would have to get Sticks out of the Prez job first though.

Most interesting thought. If Fev kicked straight against Essendon* in round 3 and Hawthorn in round 6 as well as Houlihan kicking the winner againt the Saints the context of any Ratten coaching thread would be so much different. Suppose if your auntie had balls..........

For all the talk of process...

Collingwood have decided who they want as their next coach. No 'process'.
Brisbane decided they wanted Voss regardless of any other factors. No 'process'.
North wanted Buckley above all else. No 'process'.
Williams wants to choose his own successor. No 'process'.
Sydney appointed Roos after a groundswell of support, despite promising the job to Wallace. No 'process'

Clubs that got a short list of about 3 blokes before deciding on their current (or most recent) choice:
Essendon* (win), Fremantle (fail), West Coast (favourite son), Richmond (fail), St. Kilda (win), Hawthorn (win), Carlton (favourite son), North (fail), Melbourne (too early to call), Geelong (win - but it took 10 years), Dogs (win), Adelaide (win).

'Process' is a buzzword. Hire a consultancy company to compile a list of 15 applicants, open the list up to individual submissions, have a sub-committee made up of industry experts and club powerbrokers, whittle the list down to a few top-rated candidates then make a final decision through a vote by the board...

Or, sometimes, if there's an obvious candidate... appoint them.

It can work both ways, depending on the circumstances. But people sprouting 'process' - especially in relation to Assistant Coaches - need to be careful of empty corporate rhetoric.
