T-bird offered some good leads.

We sooooo desperately need to find some hit up targets going forward. T-bird could play this role nicely and pinch a few too. Wiggo is the other who played this hit up role nicely the first few rounds.

FF: Garlett, Fevola, Betts
HF: Thornton, O'Hailpin, Wiggins

Yay, a half forward line that averages two tackles and two goals as a group...

Paper said bruised AC joint. It's about a 3 week injury, so knowing us he'll line up next week.

This is from an article in The Age: Thornton fronts up for Carlton win

Quote:
Sent forward in the third term, he added a third to his tally from the top of the 50-metre line midway through, keeping Carlton within four points of the Kangaroos. ‘‘Even though I haven’t played down there much, I still do lots of work on my goalkicking,’’ he said. ‘‘It sort of paid off with that shot.’’

I think there's something in that for quite a few others......

Our best defender by a fair way at the moment .
Crucial to our chances for the rest of 2009. I hope that shoulder is OK .

.. ..played well up forward, but if he's fit he's more important to our backline..

..crazy to think we're stopped turning our fwds into defenders [lance, waite, harts], and are now starting to turn our defenders into fwds [waite again, setanta, thornton, austin?]..

T-Bird has held our defence together for years. Even now when the going gets tough he is the one that is called upon to play on the Browns and the Roughheads. He can also play on the small forwards like Didak if required or be the 3rd man up across half back. His dedication and work ethic is second to none and his ability to read the play and create is excellent. His marking has improved dramatically this year and he is still the most effective user of the ball in the side.

The fact that Clarko (not a bad judge of talent IMO) chased him for 3 years, says it all !!

Well done T-Bird !!

just wanted to re-surface this thread and re-iterate my earlier points on tbird.

He and simmo have survived the 'dark ages' and are the only 2 who have become better players since '04 or around then. .

Bret is our general. Second to waitey, he's possibly the best reader of the play in the comp. He's such a natural talent who rarely/never misses the target, granted he gets loose touches a bit. But the past 8weeks we've had very few games with bower, jamo, and thornton ALL in the team. . Throw in the absence of waite and then ask should we be winning 5 out of past 6 games with our 'flimsy at best' defence?

I see our defence as vulnerable at times, but a good midfield helps hugely, as they can slow the speed the opposition forwards get the ball kicked to them. Without our best 22's starting chb and fb in waite and jamo in the side we've still conceded the 7th fewest points against this year. . Which is a decent representation as to where we're at.

Earlier this year i was ridiculed by a mate fong tbird a 'rolls royce' as he's all class. . .i,d like to change that analogy to a buick because he's in all australian form imo. I just hope a media journo realises his worth to our club.
