Where does this season sit in the pantheon of AFL footy seasons do you reckon?

Hardly any classica matches... 1 team hasnt lost in 17/18 games.. another team only 2 times...
... a few tankers...
... not many putting their hand up for finals..

just an absolute shithouse season of footy..

You are laughable Synbad... Yes we have work to do, but to suggest 2009 has been an ordinary season shows that you're becoming an irrelevance in regards to AFL opionion. I use to disagree with you on many points but was always keen to read your posts. From now on, I'll be moving on... In the words of Frank Drebin (Naked Gun), "..Nothing to see here..."

I can't believe that in just a month's time, it's all over for 8 teams.

Then begins the oh so long 'can't wait for footy' season.

Dont agree it is the weakest season ever - Some great matches this season - we have been involved in a couple hawks saints etc - not a weak season when last years premier sits in 9 th position at this stage of the season - 10 teams can still make the eight as of this weekend

Look at this weekend results 3 games decided by less than 2 goals

the dominant team were pushed by a team that no longer can make the eight

Synbad been to every Melbourne game except one including comedy cup matches - also seen numerous on the telly Synbad - also go to other matches not involving Carlton

I dont get to training anymore for obvious reasons

I must say most of the commentators dont share your opinion and whilst I dont always agree with them they almost universally say it is one of the best years ever - I have seen a few seasons as you know and whilst not the best IMHO its certainly not the worst - you seem one out on your opinion

Dont agree that standard is as bad as you suggest top 4 teams are very good and 5th team also good -the next few are good but inconsistent - our best ie is very good see saints - brisbane game -dogs game - our worst is terrible - freo bombers collingwood - Essendon* and Brisbane the same

Agree both Hawthorn and Port Adelaide are underachieving in terms of quality of list

Commentators are trying to sell the game and justify ratings.

Whilst attendances are up .... football quality is down.. depth is down... and there are not many good teams in the AFL currently...

The competition has been equalised but at a low grade..

But wasnt it the first time in AFL history that 2 top sides were unbeaten when Saints played Geelong this year - Arent Geelong over the last few years seen as one of the supersides equal to Dons in 2000 -Blues OF 1995 - Despite their dominance they have won one flag and are no certainty this year - must mean competition is in a healthy state - arguably footy worse in early 2000 s when Brisbane dominated for 3 premierships in 3 years and played ordinary collingwood sides in two grand finals

Agree equalisation means that the worse teams arent as bad as the bottom teams of the past but I think the better teams are equal to those in previous eras

Co- incidentally I was listening to radio this morning and Robert Shaw who I have a lot of time for suggested that Carlton have certainly improved this year and should play finals - shaw I think is one of the games thinkers and has spent time in all footballing states is very even handed and objective

He thinks we should make the finals but may struggle to win one at this stage but even if we lose a final it will assist our development as the players need to understand the work required and additional steps they need to take to become a top side

Meeting Brisbane in a final will make me go loopy. Oh God! If we win it will be heaven, if we lose it will be hell. No in between. I don't think I'd be able to function.

and if its a draw it'll be Ratts' fault, and the weak competition and a maybe also something to do with the tides....

so if the competition has been 'equalised at a low grade' would that not also apply to us, and hence why we are struggling - or are we the Taris and sit outside the normal rules of the comp?

GO BLUES

Most even AFL season is living memory....
