Well if the Swans can push the Saints to the limit, maybe we could do the same to the Cats.

It does seem they are struggling a bit at the moment, surely our intensity will lift playing a better side.

There is no reason why we can't get over the cats...I reckon we forget about them and play our running attacking game the one we have been playing after half time recently. Why are we so flat early in games? Why are we so defensive? Why don't we take the game on when it's there to be won?

Why do we take what seems to be a very careful wait and see what happens approach? Is it that our opponents come out firing and catch us off guard and we just try and hang in there until the fire has gone out of the game? So many questions...would love to know the answers because I look at our list and it impresses me...we have great potential but seem to be lacking the direction and co-ordination that would bring it all together. I truly cannot find a system of play that we work within...I've tried but I just can't see it. Maybe the Cats can't see it either and we catch them off guard...

Geelong do not intimidate me as an opponent...if we play to half our potential we will match them....we no longer need to be held back...what we need is to be let loose. The time to be playing within ourselves has passed...it's time to play consistent relentless football...its early August and we have a sniff of some Spring action...we were made for this time of the year...its who we are as a footy club...this week is a landmark game IMO....nobody gives us a chance...no-one expects us to win...no-one knows what we are trying to do out there...the confusion is tantalising...the stage is set for some clarity once and for all.

Agree.

Doubt it will happen, but we do have the talent to, and we have played that way in little bursts through the year, so if we can put a whole match together......

The Cats have scraped home in the last couple of weeks...thats not a criticism....but it just seems that they may be due for a loss, if we play to win this week. Yes if we play to win...Ratts needs to employ the George Costanza theory this week. For those Seinfeld fans out there I'm referrring to the episode where George does everything the opposite of what his normal instincts tell him...

I reckon Ratts needs to do the exact opposite of what he has done up till now...i.e. if heisinstincts tell him to negate...he must surely create instead...if his instincts tell him to play wide....he must surely plan for the corridor....if his instincts tell him to tag 15 players this week...we must tag none...I reckon we can win this week....why??? I have no idea but if we do the exact opposite of what we have been doing we are big chance...

Good one! it worked for George Costanza.

Got a real chance in this one get them when taylor and scarlett out - just getting across the line - need to get a good start - not be too defensive -kreuz and hammer to take on the mummy - try to exploit milburn - need midfield to have intensity from the word go - ablett selwood the keys for them - johnson needs bower to play on him

Kreuz on the forward line to stretch short cats backline - go Blues

Logic tells me that this could get ugly. But with Scarlett and Taylor possible outs, some tired bodies and our inexplicable knack for abandoning our cautious approach when playing top teams (I exclude Collingwood because we've had the wood on them in recent times and thus we may have been compacent), we could cause them some grief. We need run with the ball, and pressure without it, two things we're sorely lacking right now.

Updated.

Warnock subdued and Jacobs did a fair share of the ruck work. Garlett blew up in the last and it's well documented that Yarran didn't play.

The midfield for the Bullies read as a good unit with Pfeiffer promising. Grigg should be the emergency 'small'.

Noises coming out of the club don't fill me with confidence that Jamo is going to be fit for this one.

Chnages for this week

Jamo In
Jamo out

This is a good game you dont have to worry about the result - we are not expected to win so the result doesn't matter
We can sit down and have a stress free week - no pressure

who knows we might just snare a win

Out: Joseph (he looks and is playing tired) Robinson, Betts (he is struggling with the attention)

Thornton to play permanent forward.

Reckon Betts is just too good a player to be playing in the ants with finals around the corner....needs to be played in more varied roles and I don't mean tagging.... in the middle would give him a different role and would give us more spark in the guts where we have been getting a hiding in recent weeks. Who knows a combo of Judd/Hadley/Betts might be the right balance between in an under/class and speed that is needed in the centre.

Rest anyone with a niggle.

We are not going to win anyway and after today's results we are almost guaranteed to play finals anyway ( 2 wins and % in the 8 and with Ess and Haw to play each other).

We beat the Dees (or any of the others) and we're in.

You're kidding right? The thing that would keep us in the 8 is our percentage, and I damn sure don't want to risk a hiding to bring that back to the pack in any way

A win against Geelong means we play finals.

A loss then we have to beat Melbourne and hope.

Geelong are playing poorly. I suggest we select our best team and give it a real go.

We have played poorly at the G and need to prove to ourselves that we can play well there.

The losses to Hawthorn, Essendon* and Collingwood should be used to motivate us.

Jamison in Austin out

Thornton Jamison Jacobs

Scotland Bower Houlihan

Walker Stevens Russell

Simpson O'Halpin Gibbs

Hampson Fevola Betts

Kruezer Judd Murphy

Hadley Carazzo Armfield Robinson

What are you on about?
With our percentage, we're virtually 3 games clear in the 8.

Some of the crap written on this site lately is mind boggling. :donk:

I would try following changes

Jacobs for Hampson
Garlett for Eddy as he may not be 100%.
Jamison if ready for Austin.

This game will be a a very tough contest but with a bit of luck we may just bring home the points.
Ciao
Go Blues

2 Friday night blockbusters so far in front of 85,000 at the MCG and we've suffered stage fright. We can only hope that it's third time lucky. Either that or we'll be kick starting Geelong's run to the 2009 flag.
