Nothing to lose. Everything to gain.

Simple as that.

Agree. How anyone can approach a game without this philosophy is beyond me.

Once you've picked a team, it's firing on all cylinders unless injuries set in.

A massive game for the Big Setant I reckon.

Setanta was good in both of those games... what are you implying?

The more I think about this game, the better I feel about it, provided Jamison plays. Midfield intensity and spread will dictate the winner. Just need to have our heads screwed on at first bounce.

I'm implying that Setant can stitch up another 2 year deal and give Cloke another (symbolic) boot up the arse (and out the door).

Cats might be looking to regain some respect next week if the Crows keep going the way they are right now.

The Cats have scraped home in the last couple of weeks...thats not a criticism....but it just seems that they may be due for a loss, if we play to win this week. Yes if we play to win...Ratts needs to employ the George Costanza theory this week. For those Seinfeld fans out there I'm referrring to the episode where George does everything the opposite of what his normal instincts tell him...

I reckon Ratts needs to do the exact opposite of what he has done up till now...i.e. if heisinstincts tell him to negate...he must surely create instead...if his instincts tell him to play wide....he must surely plan for the corridor....if his instincts tell him to tag 15 players this week...we must tag none...I reckon we can win this week....why??? I have no idea but if we do the exact opposite of what we have been doing we are big chance...

Let's just do our best whether we win or lose. Anything else is not good enough.

Out: Thornton (inj), Robinson (not up to AFL standard)
In: Jamison, Grigg or Yarran

I've been fortunate (in that they were both exciting finishes) enough to see the Cats last 2 games live. They're really struggling by their standards. If we play our best footy (unsighted for much of the last 2 months) we can definitely beat them.

Their backline and forward line are very average right now. Harley looks gone, Scarlett, Kelly, Hunt and Taylor out - very wobbly and reliant on Mackie to fight out of his weight division and Enright and Corey to hold it together. Mooney and Hawkins are very ordinary at the moment - rely on Rooke and Johnson (NQR physically at the moment) and the exceptional Chapman to win games. Ablett is playing in fits and starts and spending time forward (similar form to Judd).

Their handball game breaks down because one link in the chain is often Tenace or Hogan. Their rucks are just ok at best.

Though they're just a shadow of their former selves they are coming off a ridiculously high base, and they've shown fighting spirit of late - still a champion team. Their worst is still probably better than our best but they are ripe for the picking.

BTW Mary Mckillop was from Geelong so probably not the go-to girl on this one

Well if the Swans can push the Saints to the limit, maybe we could do the same to the Cats.

It does seem they are struggling a bit at the moment, surely our intensity will lift playing a better side.

How long has it been since we had a full strength Backline now? One of Bower, Jamo or T-Bird have been out since rd. 12 I think

edit: checked it is since rd. 11

There is no reason why we can't get over the cats...I reckon we forget about them and play our running attacking game the one we have been playing after half time recently. Why are we so flat early in games? Why are we so defensive? Why don't we take the game on when it's there to be won?

Why do we take what seems to be a very careful wait and see what happens approach? Is it that our opponents come out firing and catch us off guard and we just try and hang in there until the fire has gone out of the game? So many questions...would love to know the answers because I look at our list and it impresses me...we have great potential but seem to be lacking the direction and co-ordination that would bring it all together. I truly cannot find a system of play that we work within...I've tried but I just can't see it. Maybe the Cats can't see it either and we catch them off guard...

Geelong do not intimidate me as an opponent...if we play to half our potential we will match them....we no longer need to be held back...what we need is to be let loose. The time to be playing within ourselves has passed...it's time to play consistent relentless football...its early August and we have a sniff of some Spring action...we were made for this time of the year...its who we are as a footy club...this week is a landmark game IMO....nobody gives us a chance...no-one expects us to win...no-one knows what we are trying to do out there...the confusion is tantalising...the stage is set for some clarity once and for all.

i've also noticed this. and it annoys the hell out of me and the only reason i could come up with might be that we've identified our fitness as a strength of our game and the plan is to try to lock down a game in the first half then use our fitness to run over the top in the 2nd half. certainly we'll need to be at or very close to our best for the full 4 quarters if we're any chance to beat the pussies next week (and i think we're a better chance than most people on here believe).
