One positive for us is Bryce Gibbs' delivery to Fevola. He just places the ball perfectly to Fevola's advantage pretty much every time. They seem to have a great understanding.

See I don't understand this reaction, similar to Russell.

Both players have returned from being dropped. And played better games.

That to me vindicates the decision to drop them, and proves that the 'everyone who wrote them off' crowd were right.

We need to get to a point where every player knows that they are not untouchable. That regardless of who is pressing for selection at the 'Ants, sub standard, weak as piss efforts by any player will not be tolerated.

Totally agree Hammer, just resets the player to do what we knew they were capable of in the first place. I hope Nick keeps it up.

Can we all agree that was the worst umpired game of the season?

@#$%&! hey. I could not believe some of the shit that was going on out there tonight - I could not believe some of those holding the ball decisions: Murph in the first half, Gibbs and Austin in the second half, just absolute bullshit!! What chance do they have to get rid of it? Who actually has possession? Clowns!!

The umpires clearly wanted to see "Simmo" off with a victory, they failed....

You're right. No need for them to tank given they're on 4 1/2 wins and can't get a PP anyway.

Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez
tough crowd!!!!!!

Make no mistake: this was one of our better wins of the season!!!
Sure, it wasn't champagne, but it was our season on the line, and the boys responded!!!

The Simpson factor was HUGE! Can't believe he played after quarter time, let alone coming back after going down the race. They were playing their guts out for them.

I noticed a MASSIVE lift in intensity from the Pies game - didn't anyone else????? Sure we still didn't play GREAT, but the effort was MILES ahead of last week!!

So North fluffed a few goals - correct me if i'm wrong but Eddie and Simmo fluffed some too, just to name a couple!!!
It was pressure all over, and I agree that it seemed they got the better of the frees - the holding against Gibbs was ridiculous in the context of every tackle that followed it.
Swallow is the new Monfries !!!!

However we won it doesn't seem so important on this occasion - we did it ! Now we just need to stroll over Melbourne, (hopefully) smash port, and hire someone to provide Ratts with a gameplan to tackle Adelaide.
Either way we are playing finals - AREN'T ANY OF YOU SADSACK GRUMBLEBUMS HAPPY WITH THAT????

CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARN THE BLUEZZZZ!

ps. When Fev laid that kiss on...... hhahahahahhahahahaah GOLD !

Wouldnt have won without him

Welcome back TEX got thru unscathed!

and 4 points is 4 points GO BLUEBOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agree BBB
I think there's a line beween experience & youth/enthusiasm that needs to be drawn in the next week or two ... as long as they're not injured (& sufficently fit), Stevens & Scotland (& possibly Hadley) are deserving of a place in next week's team purely for their knowledge of "approaching finals" footy.

Also Macintosh is coming close to the biggest flower ever.

Notice how he is always the one standing around at stoppages, whinging, bitching, trying to tell the umpire when North should win a holding the ball or push in the back decision.
total ugly flower

Also, thought Hadley was a really good inclusion tonight.

I think he's suffered a bit from going it alone in the 'protection' role.

You watch Hadley, and he knows what he's doing around stoppages better than anyone, Judd excluded.

He knows what he needs to do first, second and third. He knows how to block. He knows how to get in and get the pill. It just seems a natural thing for him and I guess after playing in a midfield behind Voss, Black, Lappin & Aker you learn what you have to do for your team mates to be successful.

I still think he's a hugely valuable player to our team and we need the stuff he does to rub off on a few of our other blokes too.

I'm no expert but he looks like a guy who is such a no nonsense player than having him yo-yo'ing between the 1s and 2s hurts not only his game but the effectiveness of guys like Gibbs. Without going back in detail, anecdotally at least I'd suggest that Gibbs best games this year have been when Hadley played. Tonight one of those.

Hope with stick with Hadley in our midfield. And not expect him to be something he's not.

Look agree on Hadley, when his touch is there he comes in and provides another option away from the usual suspects who will use the ball really well. But he didn't lay a single tackle last night. That will need to change next week.

Do we know what the story is with him? I felt fitness was an issue when he was originally dropped. In fact, I think we have had a lot of fitness concerns that have been managed through the season... Jamison, Bower, Hammer, Kreuzer, Judd, Joseph, Fevola...

A lot of players who would have seen time out of the side in teams with deeper lists.

 I like that.

Very happy to get the 4 points tonight. It is great to win even if it is ugly. I've had enough gallant losses and will enjoy a few ordinary victories. Saying that though, I'm bloody glad we were playing a team who were as bad in front of goal as us at our worst. They lost it as much as we won it. We were so slow it looked like we were running through treacle, or going backwards.. Well, maybe the backwards thing isn't so relevant as that is the usual tactic now.. :yikes:

Delighted that Walker got through the game fine, and that Stevens made a good return. Happy to see Thornton tried up forward (hope his shoulder is ok.)

Haven't watched the game yet but heard most on the wireless.. The commentators said a few times that it looked like Judd is not moving well, that he looks injured. For anyone who saw the game, does that seem to be the case? I hope he isn't, but if he is carrying some injuries beyond the usual niggles I hope he gets rested before the finals. Can't run him in to the ground like Worsfold did when he got his abductor problem.

Delighted to get a win over north, and the points.. though looking forward to some significant improvement.

If you can prove that ill eat groffungers hat.

9 behinds in the final term.....
A team kicked 4.16 last week, they must have been tanking.

Plus they dropped their 2 most experienced players a month ago. (Including their vice captain!!!)
Unfortunately it's all about straw grasping to suit your argument lately Teaguey.

A question for those at the game. I only got to see the second half on tv. At the start of the 3rd it looked like Petrie and Harvey were going to tear us apart, matched up to Austin and Joseph. Commentators then called Setanta going to Petrie and Russell to Harvey and to my eyes both North players were far less effective for the rest of the game, even though the callers clearly have very little respect for Setanta in particular. Was Russell on Harvey til the end of the game as I thought I saw AJ back on him at one stoppage? Also can I add that though Stevo looked to be working hard he gave the ball away twice on his left foot and once softly by hand in the half a game I watched.

24 scoring shots to Norths 29.

North scores 9 behinds in the last qtr, and we fall in by 10 points.

Take the 4 points, move on quickly and keep trying to tidy up our play....

Ratten's post-match presser. Interesting to hear that even he gets frustrated with slow ball movement in our defensive half...

That's when he has his arms crossed in the box.

I thought JR had an effective game last night also. Didn't do much wrong, if anything, and was our most effective user by foot I thought.
