Did we perhaps go in a bit too tall not knowing that the giant Hale wouldnt be playing? Could we possibly make a late change to fix this?

Hale's omission was known early in the day. Besides footy clubs often seem to have a handle on who is and isn't playing for the opposition.

Good changes, would be very very surprised (and angered) if we don't win.

North may have some kind of motivation for Simpson, but over the course of a game sides with nothing to play for at the end of a season can go 2 ways. They can play with freedom which means they end up playing well, or they just don't give a stuff after the other side comes out with much more intensity than theirs.

I think Carlton by 55 points.

If this team cannot win, we don't deserve to play finals, full stop. We hammered them pre-season with a weaker team than this.

Gut feel no Carlos, Cloke in.

It's hard to not like the changes.. and there is a heap of them.

Its great to see Walker back in the navy blue and here's hoping he can really make a difference for us. He could be exactly what we need, especially as Waite is out.

Hopefully Stevens puts the hard yards in and plays at the high level he is capable of. Plus it is great to see the mad irishman and the mad tasmanian back. They'll create a lot of energy for the team, and are always so good to watch.

Blues should win comfortably. We need to start putting it together if we actually want to belong in that first final, and not just make it into them.

I like the team, pity no Waite but still can't have everything. Armfield's pace is needed against these guys especially as they like to load up on pace in the forward line. Although his kicking is dodgy Army gives us plenty of pace and run and has been handballing more in the Ants games which minimises the downside on his disposal. I suspect that was something specifically addressed in the Ants, not so much working on his kicking but on his using players by hand instead. I think he has a role as a defender, midfield run-with or defensive forward where his pace and ability to stick to a job are more the key issues than his disposal. I like the boy, but I don't want him in a role where he is having to hit targets by foot a lot -that's his big drawback but with the right role he adds sorely needed run.

Interestingly, I have heard 2 different discussions recently on SEN about the Blues drawbacks. One was Robert Shaw who said the Blues desperately need an in and under type, with a Fraser Brown mongrel-streak. I think in time Robbo can be that man, in the meantime we lack it a bit - maybe Grigg but he's not in great form. The other discussion involved a number of good footy thinkers including Kouta who all had the view that the Blues midfield has simply got to learn to work hard the other way. And that I think is the great weakness of our midfield. Juddy is magnificent, but he's never had to worry too much about his man because they're usually too busy wrapping themselves around him to do much offensively. Murphy just doesn't want to know about minding a man. Gibbs seems to do so only when given the specific task. And as for Stevens - well no need to comment. Just as we seem to be over-emphasising the taggers we also seem to be filled with midfielders who either go overboard on the defensive and don't give much on the offensive side (which is OK as long as you don't have too many of these) or who on the exact opposite don't give enough time to opponents. As a result, even if our taggers do a good job one-on-one, we still get cut up because the other side can get other players free too easily. The whole midfield group has too understand they must work hard BOTH ways or we will be beaten time and time again. Getting back to the genesis of this post, that is where I think Army and Robbo are good inclusions - they do work both ways and we need that sooooo badly.

Happy with the “ins” and very happy with the “outs”, (one in particular). Hopefully the team will display a bit more “Moxy” than last week. Good luck to 1AW in his comeback game. Happy to see him back.

2 quick questions about the game

1) What end does the Carlton cheersquad (well home team cheer squad) sit at at the Dome (Haven't been there this year yet)

2) Are we expecting a sell out ??? Going with a group of uni friends who don't really follow the football. Was hoping to be able to rock up 40ish minutes before the game and get some half decent seats. Am I crazy ???

1) Lockett end
2) I wouldn't expect the Roos to sell out any game, but I bet my bottom dollar that the ground level seats are all empty [Roos members area], while we are crammed on the top deck [Carlton seating].

If Carlos does not come up I'd much rather see Jacobs come in to ruck and leave Kreuzer at CHF all day than have Cloke come in...pity he's not listed as an emergency

Jacobs has played one game since early in the season. Cloke deserves to come after his performances in the Bullants in the past couple of weeks.

Im expecting to see Petrie play up forward. Who gets the job? Its a tough one because we dont really have a great matchup for him. I would go with Thornton but he is a real problem.

Jamison will probably get Corey Jones and Bower on Hansen.

However, If we load or forward 50 with Setanta/Cloke, Fev, Kreuzer and even Austin, they may ne forced to use Hansen or Petrie in defence. Pratt will probably get Fev. I hope his ribs are ready for another pounding...

Yeah serious best wishes to 1AW for a solid and injury free game tonight. One thing we all know is that a 100% effort will be there.

Oh and stay away DOA! ..I say that in a nice way..
