That's a fair way to put it. I'd agree with that.

While watching the last two games live, it just seemed as though the players were confused or at the very least uncertain during game situations. These game situations have already been mentioned above but this should be better after two years with this coach. This uncertainty can often lead to poor disposal. There is much to do in this area.

Sticks was just one board member in a field of 12 with one vote

Stop making things up Williams And Brown are not even on the Board how did they get a say

Syd, syd , syd sys syd........ you need to be on the ball....

Do you remember the botched attempt on Pagans life as a coach by Sticks.. Gleeson... Williams and Brown????... Mitchell to come in....

Didnt Brown say about a year before Ratten was coach "Ratten can coach this team with his eyes closed"

Two things...

First is... the whole thing WAS created by a bunch of mates....

Second.... how is Ratten capable of coaching this team with his eyes shut if he cant coach it with his eyes open?

Unfortunately the group with the say doesnt and didnt understand how far footy had come ..... and were going to pay for their stupidity!!!

Synners answer a simple question

Who was president when Ratts was appointed
Who was CEO when Ratts was appointed

They are the two people responsible for the Selection of Ratten along with the other 12 board members

It wasn't Brown - Williams or Gleeson or Sticks - They couldn't even over throw Smorgy and Sack Pagan from memory

and besides it doesn't get away from the fact that this is our best season in 8 years albeit below what some people were expecting . The teams that are dominating the comp at the moment have star players who were recruited when we drafted Livo Wiggo and Sporn - Your expecting Judd and Fev and Kindergarten Kids to have us playing top 4 footy - It was never going to happen regardless of who was coaching us

Youre not following are you????

Pratt didnt source out Ratten... he was advised Ratten can do the job from others.....

... Pratt runs Visy... he understands boxes.... he made big deals for us in boxes at VFL park in the old days..... Thats where Elliot and Lofts would go to and say "We have this player..... we need this this and this"...

Unless you believe Pratt makes the footy dept decisions????

And if you think it was all Swannys idea.... you would believe if he was at the Doggies as CEO or Collingwood... he would have appointed Ratts without talking to anyone else???

Look..i know you believe in the tooth ferry also.... but hey.... leave me out of it.. ok???

True.. and when Voss didnt want us.. they didnt do the right thing for a second time....

Thats correct!!!

Whats your point???

Im agreeing with you here...

But does that mean that Ratts is the right man???,.... means even in their minds he isnt the right man... the right man didnt want us..... but they didnt open it right up for a proper process....

Is Ratts the best man for the job???

What was it about Ratts back then that made him the right man for the job in a one horse race???
So whats your point????

Ok, we are on the verge of the finals, first time in years. Lets not get to ahead of ourselves.

Last time i checked we had 9 wins.

For me, we should of beaten Hawks and we should of beaten Saints
Only Geelong has got closer to beating Saints this year then Carlton.
We also flogged 3rd on the ladder Bulldogs

Carlton has got a young side and when you have a young team you are up and down.
For example, Essendon* lost to richmond today, that shouldnt of happened.

Sure we lost a few games this year we should of won, but if we won those games against Essendon* twice and freo, then we would be on top part of the ladder.

When Carltons list starts to develop they will take more risks ie geelong. They kick to the corridor quite a bit cos they have the skill to pull it off. We try it with Jordan russell it would be a turnover/goal to opposition.

The players are playing for Ratten and thats what you want out of the coach.

Carltons having a great year so far, we are in the finals and only 2 games off 4th spot.

No point putting a big negative spin on a 50point loss from pies. If ratts is a good coach he will turn that around the next game.

Like the NBA finals, one team flogs another one game for 30pts and next game that team that lost adjusts the game plan and wins.

Calm down guys, no point to be negative when we are looking at our first finals berth in 8 years

Is that you Sticks ?

If so, pls step down from the board.

Cause when it comes to off field stuff, you are dumber than a bunch of door knobs !

Do you remember when Collingwood smashed the Cats by 90 odd points?

Do you think Geelong Forums asked for a coach change. NO!!

I'm not saying Ratten is perfect, but if we make the finals this year, we have had a successful year. If he does nothing the year after, then you look at a change of coach.

yeah but ratts has shown nothing....

.. he has no runs on the board... nudda...

... not just that but he has no learning experience to fall back on....

... not just that but he has surrounded himself with blokes like himself......

...at least a smart man would source fantastic people that add positives to the situation ... he hasnt even done that....

... he has surrounded himself with blokes that will not push him..., wont threaten him and dont add anything much....

youll find that in julies upcoming cookbook...under 'Disaster'... filled in by the carlton footy club...

Kernahan is not a good president
Listen to kennett
Listen to sticks
poles apart
Kennett keeps a distance from the coaching staff
He aint a mate of Clarkos
Doesnt mean he cant work with Al
But mates shouldnt be The President and coach of an AFL club
I agree with Synners here
Kernahan hasnt got the corporate experience of Kennett, Smorgan
Kernhahan was elected only because Pratt had to step down. This I assume was temporary. Now Sticks says he is growing in the job. Another bloke doing a on the job apprentiship.
Why hasnt there been an election for a new President
I dont want Kernahan as President. He hasnt got the experience to be an AFL president.
Even he feels out of place when the Presidents get together.
The structure is wrong

I wouldnt mind Sticks president if he kept his distance from footy matters...

and just walked around shook hand with babies and kissed old bags....

but he doesnt...

he makes dumb decisions that usually arent his own....

he sits in coaches boxes....

he just does everything a president shouldnt.....

he should be more like the queen of england ...... he can learn simething from that old dear....

noone knows if shes intelligent or not..noone even cares.... noone blames her for wars against iraq... shes just there.....shes the queen..... the do her hair and get her into some old ladies designer dress.. she puts on her crown and her stones.. and she gets wheeled around and waves at the crowd.. they wheel her back in ... and then wheel her out again next time....
when you think of the queen you think of this old dear smiling and waving and thats it....

she doesnt get involved......

President Synbad:
I'm sick of you going on and on and on. Your like a nagging wife out of control, being negative about anything anyone says positive in this forum. I thought we were on bottom of the ladder if you read your posts.

Lets paint this scenario:
Kernahan steps down tomorrow
Ratts quits as Carlton Coach tomorrow.

We appoint President Synbad.

Now what would you do?
Who would you like to appoint as coach? Who would you go after? (And dont say the best coach out there, name names).
What would you change at the club if you had your way?

How can President Synbad make the club even better in 2010.

..umm, well i do remember the steenky pies givin' the cats a shellacking last year yes.. ..i also remember that they won the flag the previous year, and had been winning games left, right and center and i figure their coach had a few losses in the bank.. [could argue they lost the flag last year too, vs hawks winning it]

..and personally, even taking into account where our list was coming from.. ..finals footy this year should be a given.. ..finals footy shouldn't have been the pass mark for Ratts, it's simply not a high enough benchmark.. ..with the list we have there should be no doubt about finals footy.. ..regardless, it's more how we play footy that's more the concern for mine..

..finals footy was always gonna happen.. ..unless we either got cruelled by injuries to seriously important players, or our coaching staff are totally incompetent..

Tend to agree with Synbad and Keogh....
If somebody could complete the following i would appreciate it...

Pratt runs Visy...he understands boxes(some of Synbads finest work)
Sticks runs Carlton...he understands ....?.......

Sticks is the last remaining link from a dark cycle of years and should have been used in a promotional sense
entertaining the faithfull at dinners/social events/fundraisers where his skills can be put to use. etc..we need a real president who understands the future and who knows his limitations.

Fair point, but previous to Geelong being one of the best teams since Brisbane of 01/02, they limped into the finals, then missed them the next year, only to surge in 07.

Thompson was ridiculed by the press, but he stuck to his plan, which the board of Geelong, and the supporters trusted, and look where it got them.

And, for the record, no, I'm not comparing Ratten to Thompson.
