Ideally? I'd love to see Pratt's method of employing 'the best' put in practice and a bucket load of money thrown at Neil Craig.
He has a very high win ratio and this year against a tonne of media pressure turned around the performance of the Crows to be one of the dominant sides of the comp - whilst blooding youngsters at the same time.
He has also operated with what I'd suggest is an average forward line during his tenure at the Crows, but he has consistently managed to wring the best out of his players and importantly seems to be educating them along the way - they seem well drilled and work together as a team.
Craig and Adelaide are what a modern day footy club are all about. They are a military training facility... and a factory for manufacturing footballers...
They all understand what theyre doing.
(Even the kids)
Their older players are evergreen.
(Beautifully trained)
Skills are exceptional and is a coach that extracts maximum out of individuals and the team as a collective...
Thats where we have to be if were going to be succesful....
But you cant become that unless you think outside of the square and you appoint exceotional people into roles.
Adelaide have also employed people in their coaching staff from the "old boys network".
Mark Bickley - no coaching experience - straight into a coaching role.
Ben Hart - defensive coach with no prior coaching experience that I know of.
They did pick up Viney though who was there with Hawthorn in 2008.
I don't think Adelaide have been as thoroughly professional as one would think, based on Hart, Bickley, but saying that...looking at our coaches - only one of them has come from a premiership winning coaching background - Darren Harris. He was there with the Eagles and with West Perth 2003.
Mark Riley was an assistant coach with Claremont in their 1993 premiership team, but it isn't the same thing as AFL premiership experience.
I must admit I agree with your principle of having coaches on our roster who have been involved in premiership success or more experience.
