Throw the challenge to the boys.
Season on the line.
Playing a team we havent beaten for a long time.
Judd's body has been extremely poorly managed, primarily due to the workload our coaches have given him when he is on the ground. It is besides the point that we rotate him off the ground for a couple of minutes a quarter. If we are going to start making serious inroads in the competition, we need to use Judd much smarter than we currently are.
Rest him this week. Lets see which others are going to lift when the captain isnt there to do it for us.

How about we rest him the following week against the Cats as we won't beat them regardless?

Its a good idea. But there's too much on the line. If we had secured a top 8 position then I would be all for it. But we haven't.

It could also be the making of some of our players.
There are times when it might just take a breakout game for players to realize a) they belong at this level and b) they have had too many inhibitions until now to take the game on.

Our team is so unbalanced at the moment towards our top end talent, that it might take an injury to one of our A Graders for the others to really get their career spiraling upwards.

It's a nice theory Josh, but do you reckon it's gonna happen.

Not saying the match committee are wrong, necessarily, but if Judd is fit he will be expected to play.

We could be nursing Special K a bit more too, but without a top 8 berth secure there's no way it will happen.

It will never happen as the MC wouldn't have the balls to rest him, but the theory of players stepping up in his abscence has alot of merit.

If we need to rest Judd to get players to pull their finger out then we have some very serious flaws in our playing group

Judd loves playing footy. Doubt he will miss a week if he is feels he is right to play. Not a bad plan all the same.
Maybe rest fev also.

Just hope we play with ticker for the whole game.

Last game Juddy missed was against Richmond last year. Stevens was Captain and was best on ground.
Hmmmm.

Well dont laugh...in effect he will be having the week off as we are playing a team already planning for 2010....we'll win regardless of Ratts..

not sure if agree with your theory. judd rarely plays 90% of game time. about the same as most elite midfielders

North put up a good fight against Brisbane. If you treat them lightly then you will pay.

I wouldn't rest Judd- give him more bench time if necessary, but he is needed whilst there is still a chance of finals. I think it will be difficult for Carlton to make the finals - Essendon* and Port have an easier run home, but whilst there is hope Judd has to play.

We struggled to beat Freo and Richmond . We are no certainties to beat North whether we play our best team or not .
Rest Judd on the training track , but we are paying him huge money to be there on match days to win games .

Maybe against Geelong , as was stated a couple of posts ago . We won't win that one anyway .

There is no doubt that after resting a player for the game, rotations are the best method of keeping our troops fresh for the whole game.

A combination of Thomas and Johnson rotated on Judd, something like 6 times in the first 10 minutes.

When we have, lets say, Judd, Gibbs and Murphy in the guts, and we want to rotate them, we need to add as much (or almost as much) class in the rotation, otherwise we're taking off our class and using good avreage players in the most important position on the ground...and the opposition gains the advantage.

We need our best in the guts. We also need a mix of clearance, blocking and running players in there too (or 3 Judds).

Hadley and Bentick are on our list for the blocking in and under toles. to contest, tackle strongly and can feed out the ball from the contest. When they are not there, who is there to perform that role...and it's a very important, tough role, and not for the fainthearted.

A simplified rotation model for the guts can be as follows:

(Runner) Judd for Murphy
(In and under) Carrazzo for Scotland
(blocker) Gibbs for Russell

wings (runners and linkmen) to support in the midfield:

Simmo for Robinson
Stevens for Grigg

That's 10 players. Have a look at them. Half are still babies (Under 22's)...Murphy, Gibbs, Russell, Robinson, Grigg. Maybe we're expecting too much from the kids.

We're short a few classy players for the midfield imo.

Sure we compliment the midfield with Walker, Houlihan, Betts, Stevens even run with roles when needed for Jospeh and Armfield, but we really lack leadership in there, let a lone bona fide ball winners like Judd.

Judd doesn't need a rest, he needs support. Stevens should be there offering that missing ingredient, but has let himself and his team mates down.

I may be dreaming, but I really like tough guys like Carrazzo and Scotland in the guts. Given that Judd is super fit, I really like the idea of relieving some of the constant midfield pressure on Judd and playing him a bit more in the forwardline....for a breather.

Sore knee...strained ankle ligaments...I'd rest him too. Get these injuries right...the weeks following are too important...unless you wanna rest him and others for the Geelong game?

If Judd's fit, HE PLAYS!!

FFS, he's being paid a fortune to help lead and guide our underdeveloped/leaderless list and that's what he'll do.

Rest Judd..

..well, would depend on whether these injuries could get worse vs the kanga's.. ..no point pencilling him in for a rest vs the cats in two weeks time, and he gets proper injured next week..
