I downloaded an excel spreadsheet with a ladder predictor at the start of the season and put in all my tips before the season started. As each round completes I've put the real results in and watch how the round 22 ladder changes.

I make changes as the season goes according to form, fitness etc. I had us down for a loss last night but still have us finishing 8th by the end of Round 22. So at this stage last night's result isn't that big a deal.

The Kangas game will be though. If we beat them and Melbourne we're just about signed, sealed and delivered in 2009! If we lose to the Kangaroos we'll be right on the knife edge.

That would be like us losing to Melbourne and missing out on special K...

There are games you cant lose...next week is one of those...

Put your money on it...

Fingers crossed.

Luckily Geelong turned up in the last quarter or winning against the Roos and Dees wouldn't have been enough.

I continue to shake my head at some of the crap our players consistently dish up. I am generally happy about the way we have gone about it, but every game there are moments that make me cringe. Last night there was a couple of moments that left me completely dumbfounded. These are not basic skill errors, these are just examples of "dumb-footballers"

First up - Greg Bentley..everyones favorite whipping boy. Looking from the outside, it seems his role is to throw his body in and protect Judd, Murphy etc. Why then, early in the second quarter when Judd was trying to create something, he refused to shepherd, and allowed the pies player to pretty much step around him and affect Judds possession. Just as we were travelling inside 50. He just stood flat footed in front of Judd, just watching the action.

Second up - Chris Johnson...The ball is kicked to him and Pendelbury on the wing..He overcommits allowing Pendelbury to brush him aside leaving the wing completely open for the pies to launch an attack. To compound the issue he fell to the ground.

Thirdly - 3 players on Fev. Presti man on man, and Shaw and Maxwell blocking wither side. What do we do..Bomb it to Fev..Surely someone is free. if not hold onto the ball until someone does get free. Patience is needed.

Fourthly - Loose man in defense when it was obvious there loose man was working a hell of a lot better than ours. Why do we always play so defensive. FFS Ratts, let the guys create a bit.

This is why IMO we will continue to struggle in a lot of games. I dont think we have the "smartest" group in the league, and until we fix this we will continue to look ordinary against well drilled sides.

Just terrible, and I thought the Filth played crap too. Actually that was the worst game I've been to since, ah, the previous Carlton/Coll game.

I lost count of the times that we got to the wing, and just went long to a 50/50 contest. No run and carry, no players linking up and running past. Just crap, and it happened all night...........WTF is Ratten doing in that box ??

Bentley, JR, Hartlett, Johnson are fully fledged members of Robert Wall's "bottom six". God they're ORDINARY. Hampson's marking attempts are pathetic, he simply cannot hold basic marks. AJ has real pace and a gutsy player, but his kicking is shite....often just bangs it on the boot. And I won't talk too much about Gibbs, other than to say that "he's no Selwood".

An all time low for the CFC last night, even worse than the Ess game, where at least we played a fair first half.

I live in Canberra and due to other commitments could only lock in this game as one which I would be able to see live for the whole season.

Obviously as I knew this would be the only game I could go to live, I was devastated by the performance put on display.

Why did our players constantly zone off Collingwoods when they had the ball? I lost count of the number of times Collingwood was able to simply waltz through their backline to their half forward line with next to no pressure.

Why is it that yet again the kickins were so stagnant and slow. I really can't see the point of one player picking up the ball after a point is kicked, go to the square and then put the ball back down so that "someone" else has to then come and kick it. Its embarrasing and its slow. No wonder the majority of kickouts go down the boundary line and resemble "kick and hope".

How is it that neither Shaw or Mawell were never made accountable and as a result were simply able to fill "the hole" in our forward line and (again) waltz out of it with the inevitable turnover?

How is it the Dane Swan was allowed to have 20 metres on a carlton player almost every time he touched the ball?

How is it that even though Collingwood two and three teamed Fevola for basically the whole match, that next to none of the forward thrusts consided the two or three Carlton players that were free as options in the forward line?

I could go on and on....

All I can say is that I am devastated by that performance and what made it worse is that myself and a friend of mine had travelled from Canberra to see it and it turned out to be probably the worst game Carlton has played all year.

Although it pains me to say it, I had more enjoyment watching the Geelong Hawthorn game the next day than that rubbish. At least those teams show some semblance of skill and passion to win games, because Carltons players certainly did not.....
