Seriously what is the problem with the media and the love fest for Essendon*?

"A softish draw should ensure they make finals. The Bombers have been the surprise packets of 2009 and would have sides worried in the first week of the finals, given their run and stun style."

Then the hatred for Carlton?

"The Blues are hanging in the eight by a whisker and have a simple equation – keep winning. The Pies, Cats and Crows will be their biggest challenges while the clash with Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium might decide both sides’ fates."

How the hell are we hanging on by a whisker? 1 game and percentage clear of 8th. The Bombers have two trips west, and Brisbane, St Kilda and Hawthorn. They need 4 wins to finish above us minimum.

Good to see the Kangaroos are playing Collingwood in Round 18 though. 4 pts for us guaranteed.

You could have saved yourself the trouble if you'd started at the bottom of the article.

Yes that's right, West Coast.

They got that part right.

I think they take opinion peices from Barry the punter from the outer. that's the only way a stupid article like that could ever get to print.

Mind you, there's Robbo..... :?

I'd say that Dave will get nothing more than shit from his mates for writting that dribble.

If you take a look at who plays who in the next 6 weeks, it is pretty even.

Adelaide actually has a tough run home, as do the Hawks, but I wouldn't discount the Hakws coming good at the right time of the year.

Port you would think are unreliable.

Ess probably have the best run home. I count 3 definite wins, and I can't say that for any of the other teams battling it out for a Top Eight spot (Carl, Bris, Coll, Port, Haw, Adel). Sure they have two trips west, but really they should win both those games.

Really it will come down to who has the best form over the next 6 weeks. If Hawthorn get on a roll, they will get in the Eight, and that means and Ess or Carl will miss out, or maybe even a Bris or Adel, although of course that is less likely.

Our win on the weekend was a very important win, gives us a tiny bit of breathing space on top of our %. And for some cray reason I don't totally discount us against Geel next week. Call me crazy but I don't reckon they are in the best of form right now, and we know their fwdline is average at best.

The Hawks aren't much good, yet they beat Collingwood. We should smash them this week, and yes, we'll go close to knocking off Geelong next week if we play to our strengths.

Essendon* might just scrape in, but not by much.

It's all about expectation.....I think.

Carlton fans know we're coming...the entire football world know we're coming because we made damn sure with our slogan and Ratts wanting to get the arrogance back that we would be noticed....

Now they are noticing that we aren't world beaters so they are inclined to think that we haven't lived up to the hype so they are all abit 'meh' about it.

Essendon* on the other hand weren't expected to do anything really....and they have played some exciting football so the media are on their bandwagon a bit....

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

What needs to happen is for West Coast to beat Freo this week- That will take them out of PP territory - Then they can have a fair crack at the bummers the week after

There is plenty of work for us to do before we can make finals. Melbourne is the only game that can be pencilled in as a win, the rest of the games will be tough and that includes the Kangas. We need to win 3 to be certanties.

..we should make it, would be highly surprised if we don't.. ..we match up v.well against the stinky pies so i expect a win out of that.. ..and a win over them should catapult us into 4th spot.. ..can't see us missin' finals after that.. ..catters we probably won't get up against, unless we play like we did vs st.dilda and for the full game to boot, then sure we can beat them.. ..catters have shown a few times that they can't handle intense 4 quarter pressure.. ..last year pies and dawks proved it, sainters have shown it this year.. ..they're susceptible like everyone else.. ..dee's should be a win [maybe even a good one], we should beat the kanga's too.. ..and we also match up well vs port.. ..basically out of our next 6 games it's only the cats and crows that i'm really concerned about.. ..other 4 matches i back us right in..

I like our run home.

Two verrrry winnable games, one unlikely, and three which are there for the taking if we're up to it.

Can't ask for much more than that if we want to make the eight on our feet and with some momentum rather than falling in backwards playing the bottom six time and again.

There is a HUGE carrot in front of the players this week. The chance to legitmately stake a claim for the eight for the first time in most of their careers. I hope they're ready for it. Judd's leadership will be big this week between now and game time.
