No one mentioned Simpson, 30 disposals, 1 goal. I thought he had a cracking game. He has definitely improved his game from earlier in the year.

I thought I had...

But yes, really good game from Simmo. Stood up when the match needed controlling. Becoming a real leader at the club.

Listened to the game on TripleM so will comment more when I've actually watched it ... but.

Hartlett and Bentley were bagged, Hartlett at the standard of Vermont and Bentley more fumbles than a virgin.

Other than that I couldn't be happier with the result. I can't believe we won by ten goals against Sydney :yikes:

That boy Yarran will be something special after a few pre-seasons.

Easily Bentley's best game for us, by a mile. He had a few fumbles but was more good than bad.

I love this goal.

Reason 1 - Direct scoring opportunity through the middle after a kick in
Reason 2 - Fisher running hard, helps set up the play and then finishes it off
Reason 3 - Recovered quickly from turnover
Reason 4 - Russell's shepherd to give Yarran time
Reason 5 - Yarran pinponts the hard running Fisher using his non preferred foot

Would have give away free kick, after free kick for chopping the arms, and holding.

You, and every Carlton fan knows that. Whether you'll admit it or not is another matter.

But it's really much of a muchness. You can only judge players by the rules of their day.

Good one Lurker.

I admit it.

Bryce Gibbs was on the Sunday Footy Show.

Paraphrasing a bit of what he said (you'll have to try to decipher my note taking):

Quote:
big win for club

broke hoodoo

3 win in row

thinks can play finals

more play together, learn how each other plays

ratts emphasised it would take a 4 quarter effort

turning point of game was going man on man around the ground

players focused too much in fev early

tough initially moving from adelaide

grigg dobbed him in, has gf moving over from adelaide

fish great attitude, even when not in team; doesn't whinge, just gets on with it

ross gibbs talks to bryce after every match, points out areas he needs to improve, not so much positives

played a bit of poker around the club when first arrived, died off now

Great win, what a sensational last quarter. Good moves in the second half but maybe should have been made a bit earlier. Fantastic game by Simmo after a couple of down weeks, good signs from Yarran, he is a bit like Houlihan in that he seems to have all the time in the world.

In the post match, and despite Ratten talking about the week by week outcomes, its still great to end a record run of losses:

Next up, North's winning streak over us.

we should never start a player like Murphy on the bench ... he isn't that type who can come in cold when the game has already warmed up ... for the same reason you would never start Judd on the bench. Players that play in bursts are more suited to this.

beating them in contested possessions (as well as the scoreboard) was a huge plus for our playing group. Losing by 17 points in Sydney earlier in the year put us in a positive feeling about this game ... they used to maul us in Sydney.

Our half forward line is proving to be our vital area both defensively and offensively ... when we maintain possession around the half forward region we start getting on top ... the midfield to half forward link stars happening which transpires into goals ... when midfielders kick goals it is a sign the pendulum is swinging your way.

We need to also be patient with Hartlett ... I know some of you are going to say this is his 5th year but if he can learn from his mistakes he can still be a good player for us ... and the key word here is learn ... remember teaching and learning are not the same thing ... because we are taught something doesn't mean we have learnt. What Hartlett need right now is continuity ... it was not that long ago that people were righting off Setanta ... that has now changed. At 196cm, decent build, good hands and good kick, Hartlett could still be something.

That was a @#$%&! nice left footer right there. So composed. Also the way he picked up the ball effortlessly prior to kicking it as well...classy...

Yep the club should get a cheque of about $5.50 ffrom Collo for pulling that crowd into the stadium.

Thats why i don't listen to TripleM. They all try big themselves up, try to out do each other with outlandish statements and feel the need to hand out votes for the worst on ground????????

Question.... What did the Carlton banner say?

I know one side said "you're Goodes is good but our Betts is better" - but what did the other say?

Thanks
