Looked like we were in trouble for a while but it was good to see the midfield lift.

I don't think it was just a midfield lift which did the job.

A few key re-assignments negated some dangerous Swans players. Kudos to Ratts and the coaches for that, and to the player for getting their jobs done.

Simply put, we stopped worrying about our opposition and got them to worry about us.

Thought it took a bit too long to get Gibbs off Goodes.

Sydney would know after last time that Gibbs would go to Goodes, so they did what most teams would do - move Goodes forwards and make Gibbs a defender, effectively taking him out of the play.

Bower was moved onto him for a bit and that was a good move, he was able to go with him up forward and then someone else could pick him up when he went into the midfield.

Was good to see an open forward line in the second half, almost Pagan's paddock. Don't know how we can manage to do it one week but other weeks our players push up the ground but the defenders still sit back.

Early on I thought we still conceeded 2/3rds of the ground so they could get to 60m out and then pinpoint someone...we push numbers back but don't have the concentration to drop in front of an O'Keefe, Goodes or O'Loughlin.

Still went to Fev a bit too much early on with Richards dropping off however our loose man Thornton was able to cut off some of their forward 50 entries. Still work to do though as they found it easier to find someone inside 50 even with Thornton loose than we did with Richards dropping back. I suppose when a team applies pressure we will still go to old habbits.

Even though JR didn't have a shitload of possession he was our #1 spreading player - the player when we have the ball who will work their arse off to get into a position to receive. While others were jogging, he would work his arse off to be an option for the player with the ball.

By ther end of the game I think everyone made a significant contribution except for Hartlett.
I loved it how we didn't take our foot off the pedal and rubbed their faces in the dirt so to speak.
Well done to a couple of our more maligned players in Bentley and Fisher.

Even Hartlett had some absolutely sublime long kicks out of defence.

The fact that White had the wood on him in the first half was more a product of our midfield's poor performance; thus allowing Sydney's midfield to put it on a platter for White.

We used T-Bird as the lose man in defence in the first half. I think Hartlett would have been better suited to this role.

Agree about the early delivery to White. I don't think SOS would have stopped those passes.

I thought Hartlett got better as the game progressed and he can kick a footy.

Exactly, first half was all about trying to match it with the Swans at their own game. It didn't work. 4 goals in a half... Can't keep on kicking goals from the pockets.

Second half, we ran and played on and took them on and split them apart. 15 goals in the second half, 14 via the corridor, nuff said.

That is crap - Hartlett is not a fullback - SOS would have killed white.

Not in this day, and age he wouldn't have.

Would have give away free kick, after free kick for chopping the arms, and holding.

You, and every Carlton fan knows that. Whether you'll admit it or not is another matter.

But it's really much of a muchness. You can only judge players by the rules of their day.

Have to agree with dannyboy here.

SOS would be a gun full-back in any era. Unfairly maligned for holding and scragging, he'd lap up playing on someone like White. Certainly wouldn't have been out positioned and moved off the ball like Hartlett was on a couple of occassions.

I do agree that Hartlett wasn't helped by a lack of pressure in the midfield in the first half though.

Does anyone know why Murph was started on the bench then thrown forward when he did come on? Coupled with the fact he was horrible at the start it's all a little sus to me.

Good win.

A huge gorilla is off Carlton's back. Probably the most important win of the year to date.

Thought Houlihan was surprisingly good in the 1st half. Anderson and a few lesser lights stepped up. Nice goal from Yarran too.

One thing I can't understand is why they don't stand the mark instead of stopping 5 metres back from where the mark is taken. If you force the opposition to move backwards after the mark it slows down their attack. At least 2 Swans goals were scored as a result of no one standing the mark.

Starting someone on the bench, is a common tactic to try to shake a tag. Maybe that was the thinking.

What are you implying?

Hartlett has been around for 5 years and has never been able to stay with a fast leading forward (or even a slow leading forward come to that) so it was unreasonable to expect him to be able to do so all of a sudden. I thought he played about as well as his limitations allow - not his fault he was selected ahead of Austin.

What was Scotlands roll today? Was he our loose man? Sydney had one dropping back in front of Fevola all day but I couldn't really pick who ours was but I did see Scots without a man at one stage. Either way he didn't get his hands on the pill much.
