The selections actually make sense.

Yarran hasn't come in for Garlett, he's come in for Armfield. He's named on a half-back flank and will play there. The selections clearly target footskills coming out of the backline, and given the criticism Armfield has received for his kicking - it's no surprise he's out. Scotland and Yarran have footskills.

And Hartlett is obviously the 6th choice defender. Waite, Thornton, Bower, Jamo, Austin, Hartlett.
Depending on match-ups and injuries they choose 3-4 of them a week. This week they are going to go with 3 talls, and have chosen the three highest ranked defenders. They clearly think of Austin as a defender, and I don't think he's done anything in particular to say he's a certain selection the minute he's available. The last game he played he was solid, but gave away a goal and got rubbed out. He's got to learn that isn't the way to go about things.

And Stevens is a midfielder. Not a forward. If he didn't do enough on the track to be included in the midfield rotations then so be it.

Nice to see some reason amongst all the blind negatives .....

So who came in to replace the pace that both Garlett and Armfield offer?

Well, i think Ratten has to be commended for staying strong with Stevens.

It's about time somebody did.

YES, and he should also be commended for keeping hacks in the team for weeks on...

A guy like Bentely or Johnson are going to offer more than what Stevens will?

In Fact, Stevens at 50% would still perfom better than half the team....

it is abvious that Ratts has a personal issue with Stevens... he is a Senior player and a top midfielder... its pathetic that he is kept out of the side for 3 weeks... Apparently his Form at training wasnt good enough... what a joke

You are crazy Dodo. Stevens is fat and performing poorly. Add to that we play better with him out of the team. At his best he is good but for most of this year he has been down.

Support the coach and the team picked and you will enjoy your football a lot more.

I am yet to be impressed with YARAN.. as a top draft pick, he has shown us nothing so far...just bits and peices of some Magic moments and silky skills but nothing else.....

He seems to be too lazy to chase all day and often goes missing for a long period....Gartlett is ahead of him in every department....I hope he picks up and plays a good game...

Dodo, I have never been scathing of Stevens...in fact I'm a fan. His form however has not been better than 50% of the team as you suggest and the part I have in bold reflects Stevens to a tee in most games this year.

Fisher stays in (FFS), must have something on ratten. on last weeks effort should have been first out. and certainly hartlett should have stayed
yarran for garlett - is MC reacting to the Yarran-ahead-of-Rich debate?
has scotland paid his penance? - one week in the 'ants then a bye. hardly earnt his spot back
backline looks very ordinary

but, hey what do we know ..............?? and who cares

No Bullants team up yet.

I am not up in arms with the selections atm.

But if Setanta is in the Ants and Fish is the preferred CHF Ratts is going to cop heaps from me...just like he copped for 4 weeks he carried Cloke and Wiggins till they were both dropped...and what about Austin?

In the meantime, I'm quietly confident. The Swans are not a tall team, but Setanta would have troubled Richards.

Can't understand these people complaining that Yarran was brought in for Garlett.
Has anyone ever entertained the idea that maybe Yarran & Garlett were being kinda rotated 2-3 weeks on and off??!
Just bring them in and out for the duration of their first year building them up.

Fev needs to get us over the line again this week...not sure where goals are gonna come from other than through him..unless Jamo has a day out...

Seriously I reckon Gibbs across HF needs to be tried this week. Maybe Carrots and Betts can snag a couple. Based on the selections we are obviosuly looking for our smaller brigade to get in amongst the goals given the absence of any avenue to goal across HF.

Garlett has to do a lot more to keep his spot than "apply defensive pressure"

He's not been named for the ants so there must be an injury issue.

Gibbs V Goodes

There must be a question mark over the fitness of Hammer & Bower. Hence, Cloke & Harts named in the emergencies...

Like most people, I'd prefer Carlos in the side to Fisher. Anyone with an update on how long he'll be out for?

Austin obviously still needs to earn his way back into favour with the MC after the 1st quarter vs Freo...

With Armfield & Garlett out, we are losing some leg speed. But I guess it's no good being quick if you can't kick or can't get the ball. Good luck to Yarran. He's shown some exciting glimpses in the VFL, but he won't be a consistent contributor until he gets fitter and works harder. Give him a chance, he's just a baby in footy terms.

Happy to see Scotland back in the side

I'm working myself up into a frenzy for this game - a big win against the Swans would be a real shot in the arm for the club after a fairly uninspiring month...GO BLUES!!!!
