The idea of dropping Garlett and armfield implies we can do without the pace of our 2 genuine speedsters in the backline and forwardline.

If they are to be replaced by anyone, you'd hope they have pace to burn.

I don't think that slowing us down is the answer. Quite contrary: that's why Hadley is still on the outer isn't it?

I want to pressure the Swans for 4 quarters and I want us to apply a hard running game because this is where I think we can break up their formation for a chipping game.

IN: Setanta
OUT: Fisher

Austin can work hard in the Ants to replace Hartlett. They may end up being a direct swap and I wouldn't be surprised.

Happy to consider Scotland for Bentley

Good post BB...slowing down to their pace is not the way to go....we should be looking to burst out of the blocks early...hold our own when they make their customary run in the middle of the game and if we still hold a 3 or 4 goal lead after that...then it will be floodgates. Pace and breaking the lines is the way against this mob...not their brand of footy.

Totally agree BB and J&K,we need to take the "headless chooks" game plan into this match. Run, take them on and back ourselves. We have 3 no1 draft picks who were no1 because of their attacking style and skill. Lets play to our advantage.

Why do you say they'll be out to win at all costs?

All indications point to a general apathy at the moment, followed by a bit of a surge towards the end of the season. Make the end look OK, but really play for the draft.

Because they despise us and for them there is no priority pick to play for just a difference of one or two places in the pecking order of the top ten picks.

Fair point. I still think that they'll go limp for 2-4 weeks, and finish off the season with a burst. Then they'll have pre-prepared marketing: "WE finished off the season strongly after a disappointing 2009, but with a good draft pick, we should be up and running in contention sooner than you think"

Let's see how many they rest for this week.

Personally, I'd like to see JR or someone similar stay with Kirk, and put him under pressure all day, and make him totally accountable. With Kirk shut down, and Big Head Goodes having to worry about tagging GIBBS, then that's a big plus in our favour.

We havent beat these blokes for the last 12 times we have played them, that coupled with the fact we really havent beat anyone that good recently ( Freo and Richmond ), how can anyone go in with any confidence.
Seriously the TAB blokes have rocks in their heads, they have listed Sydney to win at $4, jump on

Pace is no good if you kick it straight back to the opposition, hence where Armfield is struggling at present IMO.

Pace isn't just foot speed either, it's all about sharp ball movement and playing on instead of chip and put. Move the ball fast and you create opportunity that benefits your teammates.

Why do people think that because Ratts made the comment in the media about not changing a winning team, that's what he actually is thinking?

Not basing it on the media... didn't even read that.
Just recalling frustration from constant missed opportunities to fiddle with matchups, tactics, and challenge players so that they don't become passengers after a win.

I think maybe it's actually contributing to our ups and downs to some degree.
I know we are a young team who needs to play and grow together, so continuity helps, but it seems Ratts is very keen to swing the axe only after losses...whereas I would prefer a couple of changes from game to game anyway, if we are experimenting with players and trying to learn how to get the advantage over teams.

I predict that only Ohailpin will come in... whereas I would think that 3 players need to be rotated given the average performances in the last 2 weeks, which really could/should very easily have been embarassing losses.

People forget that we should have nailed the Swans in the first half in the last game but kept on missing the big sticks. We had them through the middle but Gibbs, Kreuze and Betts from memory all missed easy ones, plus Fev, and we just seemed to fall in a hole. No excuse but I'd say we still should have beaten them. Turn at half time five goals up and its a different story.

They also have Jolly who pushed our rucks around, clearing to McVeigh. If we can play a hard tag somehow on McVeigh, who'll try to take Judd, might be worth it.

I think on recent efforts Kreuzer and Hampson are learning a lot about the ruck and might be a bit better off this time 'round.

forgot about jolly. . He's as good as any ruckman in the competition IMO, just raises my thought that kreuzer's 2nd efforts, hardball gets, and athleticism becomes even more important. How many times does he put his head over the ball and beats midfielders and then gets the handball out to a running player? The kid is superb and hopefully he and hammer can match jolly and we can win the clearances.

My tip is that we will win this easily. By Juddy's own admission, he was beaten the last time we played. He won't let it happen again and will wanna prove something. Juddy to be easily BOG this game.

reporting on SEN that Ratts says Jacobs and setant will be back.
Also highly likely that Stevo and Scotty will return.

Yeah, spot on TS about Kruze, he is just amazingly athletic and courageous. I have watched the game vs Tiggies again and really noticed how much Hammer is following Kruze's lead in this, even after his shoulder injury his 2nd efforts and running to contests was just brilliant. There was a passage of play in the 3rd I think, where he contested in the ruck and then tackled a bloke forcing the ball forward, he followed it up and at the fifty got the ball, handballed to a team mate resulting in a goal!!!

I am so excited about both these guys, they are just a joy to watch

This part of the article is particularly pleasing:

Quote:
Ratten said he had noticed a stark contrast in Walker's approach following the successful operation to strengthen the joint and felt his time with the Bullants' could be brief.

"It's a lot tighter for him so it will take a Mack truck to move it – he's a lot more confident in his ball handling and putting his arm up," he said.

"If he impresses straight up he might be in the following week. I'd love to get him back in. I think his energy and running ability [is excellent] and maybe that x-factor we lost with Jarrad Waite we might get back with Andrew Walker."

"That's the big one for us; do we introduce Nick and Heath back into the team, or are the things that we want to happen on match day going accordingly?" Ratten mused.

Ummmmm, can I answer that?

Personally I'd bring in Scotland over Stevens. Scotland drives well off half back and uses HIS BRAIN to set up decent plays going forward, something Stevens has lacked for a long time.

It would be an amazing in/out if all the flagged ins came up.

Scotto, Stevo, Jacobs, Setants then there's Aussie coming back from suspension.

Personally, I wouldn't have a problem with any of them.

Jacobs wont play in the seniors, I think he'll find it harder to get a crack now with Warnock coming soon and Hampson improving
