Exactly, Armfield would have been cheap as chips... have to say I paid special attention to him on the replay of the tigers game ... his kicking is just woeful ... we would not have got a bag of toe nails for him at the trade table but he is worth percevering with. He has his runs and breaks the lines which is good but until he learns to kick he will always be a bit of a liability. He is stillyoung enough so hopefully 2 years from now the decision would have been the right one.

Bower deserved three years!

Go Blues

FFS Armfield is a second year player who is already clearly preferred in our best 22. His pace and dash see him selected and hopefully we can work on his kicking over the next 2 years.

Good stuff.

Army's getting games in the seniors on a regular basis. No player would sign a one year deal unless they are that close to being chopped off the list that they see themselves as being very lucky to actually get one year or they're near the end of their careers.

I don't know how some people think sometimes. Two years is a good deal for both player and club.

Dunno about some of the other people commenting in the 'negative', but perhaps the timing of the deal provided an issue for some?

Certainly did for me. I'd rather wait until the end of the season with a guy like Armfield.

What do you think you are going to learn in the next few weeks you don't know now? Army's deficiencies and strengths are pretty clear. The Footy dept wants to continue with his development. If he had a couple very good games he might cost us a bit more.
If he gets dropped for a few games nothing is going to change much.

If anything resigning him now would help his confidence for the remainder of the season.

..army's kicking can let him down when he's running full pelt and trying to kick long.. ..he's chipped the short pass to fev a few times after a long run.. ..our half forwards need to realise that if he gets it in space he'll break the lines, and they need to meet him half-way.. ..that in turn, that'll open up space behind them for fev to lead into.. ..time enough to practise his kicking skills..

Good decision by the club - bower a certainty- Army is also a good signing -a different player but werent these the criticisms of Andrew Carrazzo a few years ago - look at him now slotting the goals from 50 in the freo game and one from boundary against Richmond - Army needs to be perservered with - I think his disposal has improved this year - still needs work but is improving - only played 21 games - cant believe we arent supporting it

I see him as more of a carrot and stick guy based on reports from earlier on in the season. He apparently thought he had it made come round 1.

Imagine the kick in the guts when he wasn't in the team  I've seen nothing to suggest that he's sitting back on his laurels and taking it easy, though i did hear about what your intimating.

Its all well and good to wait to the end of the season, but what if HE didn't want to do that. You then risk alienating a bloke and getting him off side. If the club wants to keep a player then you just don't do that.

I think you just need to get used to the fact that the Carlton Football club are happy with his progress and really want to keep him there.

He wouldn't be on his own there...

Good on him for earning his spot this year.

All very true, I guess I'm declaring I hope it wasn't a routine decision to enter into negotiations with him as they do with most players at mid-season.

The ones who sign now are just the ones who agree the fastest.

Great news. Thornton has been good the past couple of months.

You little ripper!

I'm pleased as punch on these signings, of course I'd like to know how much the three are getting.

For all of the Army bashers out there and there seems to be quite a lot of you, every club needs their 19-30 ranked players to be able to contribute to the team. He's hard at the ball, has pace and illustrates an endeavour that will only see him improve. At worst he's a solid depth guy. He'll never be a star player but for depth you can't go wrong with a guy of his ability and mental attributes.

We've been complaining about the lack of signings and we re-signed two key guys and one of our home grown depth guys? Quit the whinin' - the club did three good things!

Carna Blues!

Can't believe Thornton is only 25.
