I agree, they weren't given a flag team. That's nowhere even near the point.

Williams looked for and got one-trick ponies and arseholes, IMO. Now, when others have either worked it out, or the game has changed, they fall into a heap. A successful side is flexible, and adapts to changes in rules and interpretations, and the game, and other players coming in.

Williams doesn't have that.

I just don't understand why so many are trying to throw Ratten out while the team he inherited as a steaming turd a couple of years back is just starting to pay dividends.

Let's revisit the theme after round 22, see what the tally is then.

how did they stuff up?
they won a flag letting him go for nothing and he is playing for the bullants...

i actually find peoples logic weird sometimes...

"williams stuffed up cos he got nothing for stevens....we have him and hes a ressies player..."

you can laugh at williams..... but how many coaches in the history of the game have a flag????

and they did have to start from nothing.... a sanfl side....

so they did get something.... but geez.. it wasnt a flag side handed to them
they actually drafted super well .. played an exciting style.... traded and did it the hard way......

... like a flag side should be put together... properly.. well coached.. well drilled.. and well thought out with what they had..

even let stevens go for nothing...

they had their own gamestyle also... one that suited them...

williams knew what he wanted and went out and got it delibeberately.. players gamestyle and the flag...

Don't forget he was happy to see the back of Nick Stevens without compensation and they went on to win a flag. Where as we've let him dictate how he represents himself at our club

Also got Tredrea, Lade and P Burogyne
All draft zone picks.

I don't remember what concessions Port got when they joined the AFL.

I thought they were supposed to be a South Australian powerhouse, off and on the field. Wasn't that why they felt aggrieved that the Crows got the nod first?

Williams would not do one single thing, IMO to make Carlton any more successful.

And, while he's managed by that turd Ricky Nixon, he should be persona non grata at Visy Park.

They also got to pick the eyes out of the SA under 18 squad from that season who won the national championship and are considered to be one of the more dominant teams that have won at the champs. Tredrea, Wilson and P Burgoyne are a few of the guys they got from that team If I recall correctly.

Where did I say that Port were handed a flag?

You're attributing things to me that I never said, or even suggested.

Melvey has said previously that Ratten has "lost" the players. Well, how would you explain Port not beating Melbourne today? Doesn't smack of a performance by players who respect their coach.

I say again: nothing is to be gained in the short, or even medium term by replacing Ratten now.

Well, by that logic all we need to do is get rid of Stevens, and the rest will take care of itself.

Your logic sucks.

and they will argue you that we bought our premierships.

Premierships are not easy to win.

Grant Thomas had the best list in the league and couldn't go all the way with it.

Geelong arguably one of the best and could walk away with one premiership.

I thought you'd be happy Synbad.

I can't remember Army kicking out, or distributing the ball.
We managed to get Fev clear a few times.
Judd wasn't one on three all the time.
A few times we blocked and made space.
We even kicked to space and position a few times despite the wind making life difficult.
I actually thought Ratts had been reading your posts and had taken your criticism to heart.
Well done

Handly lot of kids.... but where would they have gone in the draft???

All top 4???

or top 5???

So Port did a good job maximising their kids with development..

Thats my point....

You still have to forge something and make it plyable to win a flag...

Youre pointing out what Port have.. but they developed it... those players improved all the time.... and Williams got the most out of them...

Its not like you can win a flag without doing that...

What have we done???

So go ahead and report my post.

I said your logic sucks. Nothing remotely personal there. It's an attack on your logic, not on you.

Now thats some talent but in 40 or so games we've seen no improvement other than the natural progression of those i mentioned.

Ratts has inherited quality too, but Williams had two years before his side showed anything, Ratten is being written off halfway through his second. He may still make the finals and you're looking at a list that has gone from 15th to 10th and then into the 8. Players who were considered borderline, like Bower and Austin are now becoming important parts of the team. Guys like Waite, Thornton and Carrazzo are playing the best football of their careers. There's many ways you can see this argument.

Yeah it was a masterful performance...

Worthy of taking it to the pub and telling everybody about it...'

We fell over the line against Richmond....

We should be smashing Richmond.... or not???

We're coming out of the quagmire of crippling draft penalties, retirements and 3 wooden spoons, FFS!

We're IMPROVING!

What more do you want this year?!

Actually its 43/44 games... equivalent to 2 years...

You know as well as any that the first 6 were never going to be won. You can't seriously count those matches in the tally.
