Mark Williams inherited an extremely strong list and took it to a premiership in 04. He also had a team that dominated the competition all throughout the Brisbane era only to sh1t itself in every finals campaign, he may have stuck it up Alan Scott on the premiership dais, but Scott wasn't wrong, they were serious chokers in the early 2000's.

We have 3 number 1 picks, and they're 20, 20 and 21. We'll be riding on their coat tails when they 23, until then they're skilful contributors. Mark Williams has all-Australian players on every line, most of them are now perceived to be shadows of their former selves, why is that? If you're going to pump up a coach, look at one who turns sh1t into strawberry jam, not one who oversees A-graders shifting to B-graders.

Ratten is a first time coach, he'll take his time to get his sh1t together just as Clarkson and Lyon have. If you buy a rookie coach that's what you get. If you overhaul the system again, then you have to go through more bedding in time.

Oh, that's right, isn't it Melvey, because it's got Ratten it couldn't work....

Gee you're really proving me wrong about Ratten by attacking me.

Please tell me why you think Ratten is the right man and back it up with evidence. I'd really love to read you thoughts as to why

Actually, I've stated several times that I don't know if Ratten is the right man, but attacking him and replacing him now certainly isn't the answer. As such, I don't have to provide anything, much less evidence.

The fact that you've changed reasons and motives through this thread shows that you're more interested in some personal vendetta against Ratts than being constructive and suggesting things which may help Ratten achieve success as a Coach with Carlton.

You're acting more like Kevin Bartlett.

Not making an excuse here for Ratts but Jammo injured his quad late in the third hence why he played as a deep forward. With us tiring Jammo was part of the rotations because we were running out of legs.

Then explain why he was moved back and played out the game from FB and not listed as injured anywhere.

As i said we needed to rotate as much as possible as we feel away. Been told Jammo is a little sore and so to Hartts

Or Timmy Watson???

The difference between a guy like Williams and a guy like Ratts.. is Ratts has the best player in the comp... 3 number 1 picks.. and the best full forward...and in 44 games has proven nothing.

Williams has been at a financially struggling club... no number 1 picks.. had to get a club thats started from scratch and has won a flag ... played off in another gf.. and finished on top or the top 2 or 3 on the ladder end of season....

You can compare Ratts with blokes like Timmy Watson... Damian Drum.. Frawley... till he can show something and prove himself.. not with a guy with an AFL flag under his belt and some really solid finals performances...

How many concessions were Port Adelaide gifted on start up?

What moves did the super coach make to beat the 16th placed side with this squad on the park?

Quote:
D.Brogan, P.Burgoyne, A.Carlile, Carr, D.Cassisi, C.Cornes, K.Cornes J.Davenport
B.Ebert R.Gray N.Krakouer B.Lade T.Logan D.Pearce M.Pettigrew D.Rodan S.Salopek
P.Stewart J.Surjan T.Thurstans W.Tredrea J.Westhoff

A heap of names and guns, yet they lost to the Dees minus Garland and Sylvia.

After beating Hawthorn in Melbourne.

Malthouse is getting more out of his side than Williams with Brown their second ruckman.

Here's a thread praising Williams' development of their players and game plan...

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=603130

I hope they do a Collo and re-sign Williams for three years after a win.

And he should have knocked of the Brissy Lions right???

They had 4 brownlow medallists....

The Brissy Lions under Mathews and Port under Williams Swans under Roos ...are examples of maximising flag opportunity with good coaches...
StKilda under Thomas is an example of how you piss talent up against the wall..

2 full pre seasons.
a botomless pit pf cash
best player in the comp
best forward in the comp
3 number 1 picks.
Ratts record... 15 wins out of 44 games
no gameplan
not sure which players can play and which cant
senior players on the outer as he cant switch on them...

WOW Thats damning evidence there.

No personal vendetta. Just someone who can see the flaws in the man, the team and this club.

It starts with the coach and ends with the coach.

I only want the best for this club. Brett Ratten aint it i know that for sure and im not the only one (not talking about Synbad and others)

Kouta you tell me when Port came into the comp.
How many concessions they were given... considering they started a team from scratch...
What they had when Williams got there... and his record with what they have had in the draft since he got there...

Do you really believe Port were given the flag on a plate???
They entered the comp as the second Adelaide team....with Crows already AFL established and won a flag pretty quickly i reckon...
.. and have been reasonably succesful .

They have no money... compared to the Crows

no other team has a defined and obvious gameplan....

were on the right path......

there are organised footy teams and disorganised footy teams...

were in the latter cataguory...

If they are obvious then please elaborate.

Organised / Disorgansied is a completely different thing.

Youre either organised or disorganised.

If you watch games you can see the teams that have a deliberate game pattern and those that dont..

im not going to run through all the teams with you.

if you watch with an open mind and open eyes you can see it for yourself.

Supposing i choose 2 teams at around about the same level on the ladder.

say....................Adelaide and Carlton...

and i ask you which of the wto is organised and which of the 2.is disorganised on the ground... would that be a confusing question to you?

I don't remember what concessions Port got when they joined the AFL.

I thought they were supposed to be a South Australian powerhouse, off and on the field. Wasn't that why they felt aggrieved that the Crows got the nod first?

Williams would not do one single thing, IMO to make Carlton any more successful.

And, while he's managed by that turd Ricky Nixon, he should be persona non grata at Visy Park.

I can see Melbourne's game plan and development evolving before Carlton's now thats not saying much.

Its hard not to doubt Brett Ratten when he has made more blunders than wins.

I've never expected this team to win the flag this year but expected to see improvement and that doesn't necessarily mean more wins on the board. Wanted to see some kind of system going forward, a more settled team and a game plan developing. Haven't seen any of that at all.

They did get wanganeen and primus i think...

but they gave something up...

and they did have to start from nothing.... a sanfl side....

so they did get something.... but geez.. it wasnt a flag side handed to them
they actually drafted super well .. played an exciting style.... traded and did it the hard way......

... like a flag side should be put together... properly.. well coached.. well drilled.. and well thought out with what they had..

even let stevens go for nothing...

they had their own gamestyle also... one that suited them...

williams knew what he wanted and went out and got it delibeberately.. players gamestyle and the flag...

Don't forget he was happy to see the back of Nick Stevens without compensation and they went on to win a flag. Where as we've let him dictate how he represents himself at our club

Stevens let go for nothing? They stuffed up.

I agree, they weren't given a flag team. That's nowhere even near the point.

Williams looked for and got one-trick ponies and arseholes, IMO. Now, when others have either worked it out, or the game has changed, they fall into a heap. A successful side is flexible, and adapts to changes in rules and interpretations, and the game, and other players coming in.

Williams doesn't have that.

I just don't understand why so many are trying to throw Ratten out while the team he inherited as a steaming turd a couple of years back is just starting to pay dividends.

Let's revisit the theme after round 22, see what the tally is then.

Ok so what youre saying is he had a football list to work with....

you mention stevens but he lost stevens for nothing to make a point...

to think he was handed a flag is weirdly odd and strange as well as off the mark....

in life you have to have a semblence of reality... to laugh at williams record and get pumped by ratts is grossly negligent to common sense..

keep in mind they had only been going for a handfull of years...

And Ratten has inherited Andrew Walker, Marc Murphy, Bryce Gibbs, Matthew Kreuzer, Chris Judd, Brendan Fevola, Kade Simspon, Jarrad Waite, Eddie Betts

Judd a brownlow medalist, all australian and premiership captain. Murph, Gibbs and Krooze number one draft picks. Brendan Fevola all Australian

Now thats some talent but in 40 or so games we've seen no improvement other than the natural progression of those i mentioned.
