Unremarkable so far.

He's got weaknesses and strengths.

We won ugly in crappy conditions against a side that pushed the Crows the week before.

Fev did what he's paid to do and got us over the line.

The trip home on the train was a lot more enjoyable having won.

How do you think Hartts played?

I thought his long kicks out to the open wings was sensational and added something different to how we play. He moves ahead of Austin purely on this attribute

I know he was a little sore after the game and may not come up for the game against the Swans but i think he did enough to get another week.

PRO
-Fev
-Carrots
-JR
-Kreuz
-Hammer (might not have been his best, but copped a lot and kept coming)

CON
-Fisher
-Armfield (surely time to get a rest & regroup in the ants)
-Bentley (just not doing enough. Bring back Scotland)
-Johnson (just because i think we all expect/need more from him than we do from Bentley)

The more people rant on about Yarran vs. Rich, the more we will become a Richmond cheer squad rabble.
We all would like Rich - lucky for the Lions! However the Lions already have Brown, Ash McGrath, Nigel Bradshaw, Rhan Hooper, Jarred Brennan.. etc etc, so they didn't need a Yarran as much as we do
To be fair, up until this year we had Fev and Eddie, period.
Wait until next year when we have Kreuz roaming the 50, Walker bobbing up and doing freaky tricks, Garlett with a bit of conditioning and mental toughness, Setanta with more forwardline confidence.
Add Yarran starting to have an impact as he gets more games.... people will be eating there words when YAZZ becomes one of their cult favourite players.

IMO the crucial factor for us is whether players like Browne can come along and have more impact. Would love to see him back this week against the bloods... bring a bit of toughness back into the stoppages and give armfield a rest... he looks too much like a headless chook lately

Also interesting points about Thornton... I agree this wasn't his best game, however I think he and Bower are a good combination... they do seem to balance each other out well. I think they are better players together... Add Jamo on the big bodies and our backs are really starting to get some fluency as a unit. We really need the running halfback game to click now... Johnson, Scotland (Hartlett?) Walker? really need to start firing as a unit

some people need to watch the game - Houla was one of our better players today. Apart from getting caught in the last quarter, he was one of the few with clean hands and good decision making in tough conditions.

Agreed

Houla had a very good first term. I had him as our 3rd best for that quater. In the 3rd I had him as our 8th best player.

Houla spent a bit of time off the ground. When he came on, we introduced some class to the team's fabric.

Until the unproven peripheral players catch him then all they will continue to be is some posters' peripheral favourites.

Whilst I do prefer Houla in the forwardline, the decision to have him attack from HB in the second half gave us some effective drive, because without Bower, Waite, Austin and Scotland, that HB line was very average.

Have a look at the replay again and judge for yourself.

It's amazing isn't it DD.

Here's a player who can cut off an attack, mark the high ball and spoil when the ball is in his vicinity all because he's a good reader of the play and has good timing and can mark...one of our few who has all that going for him and our team...and he gets hammered by the posters who don't like HIM.

Have a look at the positives and you will see them. :banghead:

PROS

We got the important 4 points in very tough conditions
Fevola 12 shots at goal for 9 goals (2 goals of the year) Outstanding (not incl 1st Q)
Kreuzer, Hammer were a fantastic ruck team (very dangerous fwd)
Carrots is a tough SOB. He's premiership tough.
Judd, Murphs, Grigg and Gibbs accumulators
Thornton was the general in a depleted backline
Hartlett showed some good signs
Russell was a machine...tough as nails
Whilst Houla didn't set the world on fire, his class and line breaks helped us out of traffic
Johnson's best game (still not convinced though)
Walker, Warnock and Jacobs to start in the Ants
Bower, Austin and Scotland will be back soon

CONS

5 missed goal opportunities in the first quater
Short passing in conditions was a good idea, but execution was pathetic
Fisher is hopeless below the knees, and spends too much on the gound. Ants
Grigg needs to play more accountable footy and improve his disposal
WTF happened to Simmo? Joseph? Did not impact the game. Hands.
We got beaten in the second half. 3rd Q lacked intensity and desire
Defense is depleted without Bower, Austin and Scotland
Defense couldn't run out ball till Houla went back there to help. Lack of class
Umpiring was one sided. Some of the frees not paid :hitcomputer:
Clangers from Judd and Grigg were inexcusable
We are not yet a one touch team. Fumble too much
Biggest issue is a lack of intensity to attack the mark and man with the ball everytime.
We must learn to close up space and time.

Your first point i don't get because while I watched it I never felt like we were going to get done....nearly beaten doesn't mean closing the margin....we won it comfortably if you ask me.

Agree about Joseph just looks like he's lost a bit fo toe...

After seeing Judd make a couple of errors the commentators thoght that perhaps the conditions were far worse thsn they first thought.

Pros:

- Judd... Dominated again. Just knows how to pace himself through a game and give 110% whenever he's out there
- Fev... Made several doube/triple efforts in the first. Knew it would be a tough day when the ball was coming in high. The boys responded well with some better delivery (low and to the lead or in space to run on to) later in the game.
- JR... Ran hard all day and got his hands on it enough to have an impact. Had a couple of cock ups, but you take the good with the bad and there was more of the good.
- Krooz/Hammer... Great one-two punch in the ruck. They were up against a couple of chumps, but they managed themselves quite well. Hammer is an impressive specimen.

Cons:

- Bentley is rubbish. Blazed away at the end of the game with Fev one-out in the F50. The man was on the verge of being the first player in a long time to crack double figures. All he has to do is put it in space for the big man to work on to.
- Moving Jamo forward in the last quarter almost cause the house of cards to fall. Moving him back put a stop to the rot.... Made a 40 point win into a 20 point win. Hope that's not the difference when it comes to a top 4 spot or an elimination final in Adelaide or Brisbane.

Some posters simply astound me with some of the stupid things they say.
Richmond kicked 1 goal 8 in the third many set shots inside 50m.
Gee glad you were confident because I wasnt

We never looked like getting done Keogh. If they had of scored one of those 8pts we would have tightened up and banged a couple through. We were always going to win.

Don`t know why Ratts didn`t move Hartlett forward instead of Jamo.
Also thought Fev spent too much time on the bench.I can recall a missed opportunity to goal in the 3qrt when Hammer fumbled a mark one on one that Fev would have gobbled but was watching from the sidelines. Midfield rotations i can understand, but resting your FF? Fev was on fire at that stage too.
Pros:

Fev coming back after a selfish and pretty ordinary first qtr to be the difference...Anyone who says trade him you are on drugs!!!! Carlton CANNOT will a final without this man.. He will love the big stage come September. Once he has a better forward line structure around him and not 3 on 1 every time we will also see more of good fev IMO.

Kruez... its amazing one minute you think Gibbs will be the best, the next murph.. the next this kid. Just doesn't give up. Once Warnock comes in the side I think we will be much better off with him at CHF (although he has been great in the ruck) or could even play the ruck rover role!

JR.. I have to say I have been a big knocker of this kid... but last two weeks have been good

Harts.. On the way to the ground today I was saying that I feel sorry for the kid that the one time he gets a chance is in conditions like we saw today. I thought he did well.. His man did take quite a few grabs, but 80% of the time the marks were hard in the pocket. His long kicking and switching of the play was very good too. Don't know where he fits in through once Bower and Austin come back in.

Carazzo - Another whose displosal has been suspect over the years.. used it well in general in tough conditions (a few shanks in there I must add!)

Anderson.. Need to mention something about him.. He wasn't in our best and put team mates under pressure at times.. but he used his long kicks well to give us some drive today I thought.

CONS:

Disposal - Yes, it was tough out there but 35% disposal efficiency in the front half of the ground to half time!?!? Too many handballs I may add! It was blowing a gale and a handball is more effective BUT kick the bloody ball our of defensive 50 and THEN handball!!!! I could go on forever here.. but our use especially from the HB line was ordinary at best.

Last qtr - Today we should have got our % back to where it was before the Essendon* game. Against a good side they would have run over the top.. Need to get that killer instrinct.

The move of Jamo to full foward in the last- Still baffled about that! OK, when you are 39 points up try something.. but Jamo WILL NEVER be a forward.. rather give Harts a run up forward or maybe thornton if you wanna see how they go... but Jamo??? If he is injured he should be on the bench. If he is ok to be on the ground he should be in the back half. Amazing that once he went back we didn't conceed another goal!?!?

Fish - Just don't think he is up to it. Very slow and often makes the wrong decision or takes too long to make it and by then what would have been the right decision is no longer!!!
and how many times did he fall over/lose his feet. gotta go for any ins this week
